savedbythezsh, to selfhosted in Self-hosted media tracker recommendations?

Update: I finally installed RYOT, and wow is it slow, and resource intensive. It’s using more than 20% of the CPU on my NAS when it isn’t even open! Might switch to Media Tracker…

savedbythezsh, to selfhosted in Self-hosted media tracker recommendations?

I was wondering why everyone kept talking about Media Tracker being fast. I finally installed RYOT, and wow is it slow, and resource intensive. It’s using more than 20% of the CPU on my NAS when it isn’t even open!

savedbythezsh, to selfhosted in This Week in Self-Hosted (5 January 2024)

I just unrelatedly installed Homarr today actually, was getting a little annoyed at memorizing the ports for services running on my Synology…

savedbythezsh, to selfhosted in worth selfhosting immich or similar? what about backups?

I use Backblaze B2 for my backups. Storing about 2tb, comes out to about $10/mo, which is on par with Google One pricing. However, I get the benefit of controlling my data, and I use it for tons more than just photos (movies/shows etc).

If you want a cheaper solution and have somewhere else you can store off-site (e.g. family/friend’s house), you can probably use a raspberry pi to make a super cheap backup solution.

Ooh, ryot is really nice! And seems to have a similar feature set to Media Tracker, plus exercise. It’s also maintained actively.

Have you used it before? Any warnings?

Personally, I would say Richard Stallman has respect for open source software: www.gnu.org/philosophy/selling.html.

Having respect for free (as in “libre”) software means caring if the software can sustain its own development, and not just caring if you get it free (as in “gratis”). It’s not always viable to support a project on donations and free time the way GNU is. xkcd.com/2347/

savedbythezsh, to linux in Based KDE 🗿

Yeah but it’s awful, and can only install UWP apps which are just plain bad
