Star Wars was the first fictional universe that I ever fell deeply into. It opened up a door to all other fictional universes, but no other fiction ever imprinted so deeply on me....
I appreciate this take. There will always be a part of me that wishes they’d just recast the big three and start adapting from the Heir tothe Empire forward (live action Mara Jade please!) but I can still enjoy Luke popping up in Mando and wrecking everything in sight. I just wish they hadn’t sacrificed his arc to “better” Rey and Kylo’s. It’s pretty much forced Disney to either keep pushing in new directions (which I’ll settle for in lieu of EU adaptations) or add story beats to a character we already know is doomed. Like playing Morrowind after murdering a story NPC.
Those foot pull hooks are useful, but I have yet to figure out how to get out the door without an awkward shuffle step or downright stumble as I pull the door open.
My parents just told us we’d be grounded one day for every minute we were late. I’m a guy and never went out in high school, but my sisters made damn sure their boyfriends got them home on time.
For all the talk of Scorsese honoring the Osage in the production, I felt like Molly and the rest of the tribe were pushed into the background for a good 2/3rds of the movie in order to tell the story of the emotionally tortured white guy who keeps helping murder his in-laws. It felt like Molly’s only real moment of agency was when she went to DC to beg for an investigation.
Also, I for one (and my girlfriend and our friend for two and three) felt that this 3.5 hour movie felt like a 3.5 hour movie. It would have been better served as a miniseries à la Chernobyl, not least because I understand a lot of content from the book didn’t make it to screen. I feel like Scorsese is too much of a purist to have entertained that route though. There are enough big plot beats that you could break on big plot beats and it wouldn’t feel like… well, a 3.5 hour movie.
