Everything. O365/outlook do not use normal email protocols. On normal exchange you can enable imap. Do not know about o365 tho. Also unfortunatly you loose a lot of other features if you dare to step outside the walled garden.

How often do you back up?

I was wondering how often does one choose to make and keep back ups. I know that “It depends on your business needs”, but that is rather vague and unsatisfying, so I was hoping to hear some heuristics from the community. Like say I had a workstation/desktop that is acting as a server at a shop (taking inventory / sales...

How often depends on how much work it is to recreate, or the consequences of loosing data.

Some systems do not have real data locally, get a backup every week. Most get a nightly backup. Some with a high rate of change , get a lunch/middle of the workday run.
Some have hourly backups/snapshots, where recreating data is impossible. CriticL databases have hourly + transaction log streaming offsite.

How long to keep a history depends on how likely an error can go unnoticed but minimum 14 days. Most have 10 dailes + 5 weeky + 6 monthly + 1 yearly.

If you have paper recipes and can recreate data lost easily. Daily seems fine.

I disbelive the debian answer here. Sounds like a case of frankendebian wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian

Been usig Debian for home and work and on hundreds of servers for 2 decades and it have been near flawless. Any issues i have had have always been my own fault.

so true.
my uncle had a tv. and 2 movies on vcr. I saw “Smokey and the bandit” more then a hundred times. and “the sting” 30-40 times…

Bow I wonder what the gaming share of linux use would be. Probably very very small percentage. since the wast majority of linux installs are servers

sep,

Including phones would be significant. But in my (probably deranged) head android/linux is a different os from GNU/linux. The overlap of the kernel itself is not enough. In that case all switches/routers/storage appliances/toasters/washing machines/fridges/iot sensors often also run linux.

We absolutly dropped the dot from the word in informal speak. Probably 2 days after owning one… “matriseskrivar” was much easier than “punktmatriseskrivar”

How do y'all deal with programs not supported on Linux?

I’ve been seeing all these posts about Linux lately, and looking at them, I can honestly see the appeal. I’d love having so much autonomy over the OS I use, and customize it however I like, even having so many options to choose from when it comes to distros. The only thing holding me back, however, is incompatibility issues....

Without knowing the exact programs, you can only get general answers.

If there is no direct alternative program, you can change your workflow to use other programs. Or you can try to run those important programs in wine. Or i can run those in a terminal server, or via a windows vm. Or more lately many programs come in web versions that works for everyone.

I have used linux exclusivly on my daily driver for about 23ish years.i mostly work with the linux side of things. And the few windows things the company require i use web versions, or a windows vm.

Impossible to forget firefly. When i rewatch the first season annually. And select episodes more.

I agree! My coworkers look at me funny when I irregularly go “smock smock smock smock” and laughf to myself.

Disney is gouging customers with a near doubling of subscription costs. (sh.itjust.works)

Disney is raking its customers over the coals with a 75% price hike for their annual subscription (originally $80.) People wonder why piracy is on the rise.Multiple commenters are saying I’m off base about the 75% price increase. My payment less than a year ago was $79.99. Here’s the proof.

sep,

Never canceling that. I’d rather rewatch anything d20 over anything on netflix.
