Did you know that eventually Voyager’s EMH was able to achieve holographic rights? In doing so, his fellow EMH’s were released from dilithium mining, core scrubbing, and other degrading tasks.

Fortunately Starfleet was able to fill these lowly but needed roles by using transporter technology to duplicate Harry Kim thousands of times. It was considered a highly ethical solution by the project manager, one Admiral Janeway.

I don’t necessarily see fracturing as a bad thing. I don’t know about you, but I didn’t find the askreddit discussions with 10,000+ replies to be particularly high quality. At least, no higher than what were found in much smaller threads. Fracturing can help make threads less overwhelmingly large. In addition to the other reasons why the redundancy can be a positive.

I understand why seeing ten different versions of ctechnology would get old, but that’s only when scrolling by ‘all’. Scrolling by either local or subscriptions will for the most part fix that. A downside is if you are subscribed to multiple ctechnology communities, in which case having a “multireddit” style feed would be nice. I think the Voyager app may offer that, I actually haven’t tried it out.

But when it comes to browsing ‘all’, seeing duplicates from different instances is a far sight better than having a centralized site where ‘all’ is dominated by low effort rage/horny/stupid bait.

On the user end, that is a good idea. Individual users should be able to curate what they want to see to the maximum amount.

I am not using Voyager, but I believe it is continually trying to create such features.

You forgot the episode ‘Body And Soul’ where Picardo acted as Seven acting like the Doctor had taken over her body.

I bet you didn’t even realize it was Picardo.

And, technically, the backup copy of the Doctor in ‘Living Witness’ wasn’t the “prime” Doctor.

Also he played the evil android version of the Doctor in the same episode.

When my dad had a desktop, for some reason beyond my comprehension, he’d seemingly download every toolbar offered to him. Opening up his internet browser on desktop and literally half of the screen was just toolbars.

He also insisted that I not touch it because he needed them.

setsneedtofeed,
@setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world avatar

That is painfully accurate.

I still vividly remember when I was young that my dad blamed any and all computer problems on the fact that I downloaded Steam on the family PC. Couldn’t possibly be because of the 20 “free” “antivirus” programs he downloaded.

I am too, I just have always thought those scenes seemed weirdly out of order.

Remember that part in Star Trek The Motion Picture when two people got horrifically melted by a transporter accident right in front of Kirk, and then like five minutes later Kirk was giving Bones shit for not wanting to use a transporter?

That’s just Farscape.

I remember Andromeda, and I’m going to make it everybody else’s problem.

Interesting universe and premise. It’s got noticeably lower production value than comparable Trek, but it’s decent for the first season and a half.

Robert Hewitt Wolfe, a writer who had worked on Deep Space 9 was the producer for the first season and a half. In the middle of the second season Sorbo and the network teamed up to push him out, and retooled the show to be much dumber and more actiony. It takes an immediate and embarrassing nosedive after that.

If you watch it, a good time to stop is when Trance Gemini turns from purple to gold colored.

Wait a minute, that’s not Cirroc Lofton, it’s Tony Todd.

It’s a fake.

Sure Ben Sisko lied, cheated, bribed men to cover up the crimes of other men. He’s even an accessory to murder. But Jake is so whiny, so I think I can live with it… And if I had to watch Deep Space 9 all over again… I would skip Jake heavy episodes. So I will learn to use the skip button, because I can live with not rewatching every episode.

Which episode has the most Jake screentime? That’s the worst one.

Imma be real, I find a lot of TNG ugly. The interior of the Enterprise-D looks like it was designed by the same people who design chain hotels. The lighting everywhere is blaring. The bridge has a weird layout. The uniforms are ugly. It’s a great show, but I don’t enjoy the aesthetics. It’s not about the ability to make modern effects, but the aesthetic choices.

Voyager to me defines a better look. The interiors of the ship have more blues, metallics, and cool grey tones. The lighting is more subdued without being grimdark. The Voyager or DS9 era uniforms both look much better.

DS9 was intentionally ugly, and I don’t mind. The station isn’t supposed to represent Federation aesthetics, and it goes with it. Even so, the dimmer lighting makes it less overwhelming.

TOS people now might say is ugly but I give it quite a pass due to the age. The uniforms don’t look great on close inspection, but I still like them more than the TNG ones. The smaller bridge feels cramped compared to TNG, but it again makes sense for the setting.

Honestly maybe an ENT episode. They are modern enough not to look “old” to a kid and then you can transition to other stuff when he’s on board.

Maybe episode 7, “The Andorian Incident”. It’s got Jeffery Combs and a decent amount of action.

Just pre-screen ENT episodes to make sure there isn’t too much decon room screen time.

Devil In The Dark is still a top Trek episode for me, and I actually like the space battle in Balance Of Terror much more than the finale battle in Wrath Of Khan.

All of the “submarine combat but in space” tricks were so good. It’s one of my favorite depictions of space combat in any TV show. Visual media rarely replies on tricky cat & mouse space fighting.

Sure but no teen likes sitting through a racy scene while watching with adults.

The trick was to fly at warp factor 12 around an exact duplicate of the United States Constitution, flinging the Enterprise far back enough in time that the Romans didn’t have submachineguns anymore. Then a simple application of aerosolized Cordrazine in the atmosphere allowed the people to realize they had no need for gods.

A warning. Those who speak too deeply and become engrossed in conversations too long will fall prey to the machinations of dimensional altering creatures. Beware the conversationalist, for they are an agent of gibbering star madness.
