slazer2au,

It’s not about matching, it’s about preventing Adobe from getting money. :P

slazer2au,

Are you sure? A fair chunk of the internet is run through AWS making avoiding them much harder.

slazer2au,

My wife, she plays mobile games where you get temporary boosts if you watch an ad.

Me vs my ISP

So I was looking into getting port forwarding set up and I realized just how closed-off the internet has gotten since the early days. It’s concerning. It used to be you would buy your own router and connect it to the internet, and that router would control port-forwarding and what-have-you....

slazer2au,

Yes CGNAT is used quite a lot, but consider 95% of customers don’t care what their public address is and that “saves” the carrier address space.

We are the 5% that do care and if you call your ISP they likely have an option to exclude you from cgn and get an actual public IP.

This package of bagels I bought expired on a date that doesn't exist. (i.imgur.com)

I originally posted this on the other site back when I took the picture, and it resulted in a lot of confused comments, especially from Americans, eventually getting removed by overzealous mods. Either way, I promise you that this date does not exist, and has never existed.

slazer2au,

Written language doesn’t have to follow spoken language. The ISO is for written things not spoken.

slazer2au,

Na, anyone working in the IT field knows that computers mean anything with a cable attached to it.

slazer2au,

Much as it has been for the past 15 years.

slazer2au,

Reminder that flight attendants only get paid when the airplane is in the air. It’s the stupidest thing so don’t be a asshole.

I thought it was when the doors close their pay starts.

slazer2au,

We have a retroactive Google Sheet which pulled from Reddit years ago where we put our transactions in and categorise them. Lets us see where we spent money

slazer2au,

Warhammer. There is so much lore and battle reports out there you could fill your life.

Also I am being cheeky by not specifying Fantasy or 40K so I get both.

slazer2au,

I let the apps have a chance, but if they drop a notification when it wasn’t needed I remove the privilege. Unless it’s a game, then it’s insta muted.

slazer2au,

Had one customer when working for an ISP would call anytime he ‘felt like’ his internet was slow. No shock, each time he called was because someone else at the office was working and using the internet correctly. As the contract renewal came about I recommend we don’t renew his contract and cut ties, the boss was confused about this because this discussion never came up before.
I showed the boss the customer ticket history and how we are loosing money on this customer after considering support costs.

The boss agreed and oh boy the client wasn’t happy when we told him.

slazer2au,

From a technical POV you can’t. The US is too well connected with many subsea cables to Europe, South America, and Asia.

www.submarinecablemap.com

In addition because the providers and cables are owned and operated by private companies the government would have a very hard time convincing telcos to do that.

Hell even internally you can’t with every major city having 2 or 3 places where providers can connect with Google, Amazon, Facebook, Cloudflare, Akamai. Not to mention all the private peering locations.

From a political POV, make legislation that says registered telcos must turn off telecommunications equipment connected to non US locations or black hole non us traffic when entering the country when requested by a government.

slazer2au,

It is also a software switch in the keyboard. Find the key that has the FN inside a padlock and it will switch the dual purpose keys to regular keys.

As long as Mr Garibaldi is getting enough fibre.

Best way to go about getting CompTIA certifications?

I’m looking to get the A+ and Networking certs only because I’ll probably be laid off soon and I want to make myself even more marketable. Right now I’m a software developer with 8 years of Java experience, and from my initial studying I think the certifications shouldn’t be too hard....

slazer2au, (edited )

if you are a software dev then I would say go for the CCNA and DevOps certs.
After that go for an AWS or Azure AZ-900
