smallaubergine,

They should intentionally make it smell real bad to discourage people to do that, like how Nintendo made ds/3ds cartridges taste bad so little kids wouldn't try and put them in their mouths

smallaubergine, (edited )

definitely meant to comment on another post, super weird! I was reading a nottheonion post about how Steam was telling people not to huff the air coming out of the Steamdeck. Wonder if i hit a bug on the kbin mobile website? Hoping this reply actually goes to you and not some other post!

smallaubergine,

Interested here as well, especially because the movie doesn't cover the Japanese perspective at all. Like 0 percent.

smallaubergine,

I understand, it wasn't a judgement just an observation about how it'll be interesting to see how Japanese folk receive the film.

smallaubergine,

The US library of congress has a nice collection. prokudin had invented a method of taking 3 separate images with r g b filters. https://www.loc.gov/collections/prokudin-gorskii/about-this-collection/

Louis Rossman/FUTO's YouTube app, GrayJay, now supports Sponsorblock... and shames you if you use it

Seriously this was very surprising. I’ve been experimenting with GrayJay since it was announced and I largely think it’s a pretty sweet app. I know there are concerns over how it isn’t “true open source” but it’s a hell of a lot more open than ReVanced. Plus, I like the general design and philosophy of the app....

smallaubergine,

correct, newpipe has no account integration be design for privacy

Which sequels/prequels/spinoffs made the originals somehow worse?

The Matrix is an often used example, but for me it’s the Alien Prequels - especially Alien: Covenant really makes the Original Alien much worse. When the original was released in 1979 it had the perfect Monster. A dangerous killing machine of unknown origin. The missing background of the alien is a big part of its scary mess....

smallaubergine,

To add to your Anakin comments, the idea that he was some chosen, that the Jedi we're looking for some Messiah seemed lame to me. Just make Anakin a regular guy who becomes a Jedi and then falls to the dark side. It's been talked to death but Ep1-3 should have been from Obi Wan's perspective.

smallaubergine,

Nah it's not that they ran out of ideas. It's that the market has changed and there's no room for risky mid-budget or high budget movies. Back in the day they could make a substantial chunk off of home video sales rather than just the theatrical release. Now streaming is not nearly as lucrative and they have to compete with a ton more forms of media. So when you're dropping hundreds of millions to make a movie you have to be damn sure it's gonna draw people to the theaters. So you take fewer risks and make things as wide as possible to appeal to everyone worldwide.

There was a really good 1 hour long YouTube video posted recently that broke it down

smallaubergine,

Can't imagine what it would have been like to have to fight wars for foreign colonial powers. They come, take over your lands, treat your people like shit, rob your country of wealth, and then force you to fight their wars. And now we see former colonial powers as developed and civilized. Makes my blood boil a bit

smallaubergine,

There's some incredibly impressive megalithic structures in India. Look up Ajanta and Ellora caves. I believe the Ellora temple is the largest monolithic structure ever created

smallaubergine,

Fascinating, thanks for the link

smallaubergine,

The Indian region has historically has been pretty resilient to famines, the exception to that is during British rule there were several famines leading to the starvation and deaths of millions. The consensus seems to be that these famines were a result of British policy. I've never heard of this unsustainable growth and famine argument I'd love to read more if you can provide sources

smallaubergine, (edited )

thousands of years of famine? I'd love to read more let me know! Also I don't believe there have been any famines after the British left.

smallaubergine,

probably just differences in cameras, lenses and exposure times
