some_guy,

“Wearing a watch is like being handcuffed to time.”

some_guy,

This is a pretty awesome way to protest and show solidarity. These trans men are ballsy as fuck and I salute them.

some_guy,

I qualified my statement as “not gov” and then followed up with a gov example. You’re arguing in bad faith. Anyway, I’m done with this thread. Hope you have a nice day.

some_guy,

Nothing I said was a lie. I named two examples of vax mandates. My 24 person company in the Bay Area, where we’re dominated by liberalism (whereas I’m a leftist). And the trucker convoys as a result of a mandate to cross the border. The first, you have no way to verify or disprove (although we were so disorganized that actual proof was never sought; it was a stated policy before we came back to the office in summer of 2021. The second, you’d have to have been in a news blackout to miss. I don’t understand your comment.

some_guy,

I think it was thought of after falling off a toilet, so toilet-assisted?

some_guy,

What great ideas didn’t begin as a thought on the toilet? /s

some_guy,

My office, for one. But you prolly mean by government. Crossing the border in Canada led to the trucker thing. To be clear, I got my third booster last month. I’m pro-vax.

I'm being harassed by mosquitoes, how do i kill them all?

To my knowledge there’s no stagnant water on my property, I’ve run water through all my ptraps, and I’m careful to not leave doors open. Yet at any given time there’s at least 3 in my house. I can’t sleep, i can’t sit on the couch, i can’t exist in the fear of being sucked dry....

some_guy,

Had a similar thing when our internet and phones went out in a retail store. We processed cash transactions for as long as we could before closing a couple hours early. Asshole stuck his foot in the door when the manager was trying to explain why he couldn’t come in, demanding that we let him shop. He was clearly drunk, to boot. Ugh.

some_guy,

Years of depression put me in a spot where I had multiple huge face-swelling problems. Brushing is an afterthought when you hate life and want to die. I hope you’re doing well.

some_guy,

What they’ve actually done is given her an opportunity to start conversations about the pink hair.

Keen insight. I wouldn’t have known she exists otherwise.

some_guy,

Always do both. Ideally have three copies of your data at all times. For the most important stuff, I also sent a drive to a family member in a different part of the county in case of natural disaster.

some_guy,

My father had a doctorate of engineering. He was a brilliant man. When I saw him search for Google and then follow the search link to google.com, to then search on their home page, I started to tell him he should search from the address / search field in his browser. He was instantly becoming confused and so I said, “nevermind,” because his way got him satisfactory results so why bother. Some people aren’t dumb at all. They just don’t care about the same things you or I mighty enough to learn them (beyond basics).

some_guy,

People who would leave a site like Reddit because of a principled stance often mistakenly believe that the rest of society cares as deeply as they. Spoiler: society mostly doesn’t care; at least, not enough to go out of their way to change anything.

some_guy,

Toasted bagel with peanut butter.

But when you have time for it, try adding scrambled eggs. It sounds insane, but the eggs and peanut butter compliment one another in the same way that fried chicken and waffles make a surprisingly good combo.

some_guy,

I remember standing in line at a liquor store, watching a (likely) homeless woman carefully pocket some food item. I said nothing. I talked about it the next day at work. A coworker suggested I’d just passed an “ethics test.”

That was many years ago, before I’d established my current worldview. Today, I’d be silently rooting for them. “Get some food!”

some_guy,

What a nice article.

When I was about seven years old, there was a giant collie that kept running away from a home where he was neglected and coming to our house. My older brother had provided food, water, and blankets on the porch the first time he showed up on a cold night and he just kept coming back. Finally, the mother of the family told my mom that if he ran away and came to us again we could keep him. Well, you can guess the ending. He was one of the nicest and most-loving dogs I’ve ever known. His name was Mister.

some_guy,

Odd contradiction. I support pirating when a person can’t access media legally (whether due to financials or just dick-moves by corps). However, this is the same logic that writers are striking against with streaming and I sure as hell support them.

some_guy,

Maybe one child for $100k. If they get two they’ll be stretched thin.

some_guy,

Wow, tough situation. Glad you got through it.

I tried to found a startup with a buddy. He had a great idea, but it turned out that he didn’t have the technical chops to fulfill his end. Bummed around after that on money and stocks from my previous gig. When I finally tried to get a job again, I couldn’t get a callback to save my life.

I kept moving down the food chain all the way to regular physical labor. I couldn’t even get a job at a vet or grocery store. Having major tech employment on my resume meant they knew I’d bounce the second I had the opportunity. It was a toxic dilemma resume: too high of a former position to qualify for something like retail, too long without a job to qualify for other office jobs.

I got back on top through a temp gig. Having recent employment got other tech employers to actually consider me again, and I’ve been ok since. I never would have imagined what that gap could do to make me impossible to hire.

some_guy,

Someone, somewhere, will misrepresent this to give credence to the “do your own research” crowd.

Which is not to discredit the message. They misrepresent everything.

some_guy,

I’m reminded of the episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm when Larry got a doctor’s phone number and couldn’t read it.
