steeznson,

I used to distro-hop until 2017 when I started using Gentoo as my main distro. I did not have the same experiences as you with Arch but I tended to avoid the AUR. Ultimately Gentoo has kept my attention by being more flexible rather than having negative experiences with Arch.

I suppose I still distro-hop a little bit on an old laptop I’ve got but that one alternates between Debian and OpenBSD; also its primary use is a terminal for SSH’ing into my Gentoo desktop from the sofa.

Probably the only distro I’ve had a truly bad experience with is Manjaro. The additional repo that it comes bundled with creates more problems than it solves. Also - although this never affected me personally - the story about developers asking their users to reset their system clocks to accept an expired PGP key is an absolute scandal.

steeznson,

I’ll offer a dissenting voice here and say that I thought it was better than Shin Godzilla (even though that movie is excellent). It’s the first time they nailed the human storylines since maybe the original 54 film. The depiction of Godzilla is more god-like, for lack of a better word, and less anime like the Shin depiction.

steeznson,

I saw this movie on Friday evening when it opened in the UK, and I’ve got tickets to go and see it again tonight. It was so satisfying on multiple levels.

steeznson,

Gentoo desktop but I have to use it over SSH a lot of the time since I’m stuck on my work macbook

steeznson,

I was at uni there for 4 years and it was extremely expensive to rent. It was getting close to St Andrews at one point. I left in 2015.

Friends who stayed after the oil crash in 2016 ended up getting phone calls from their landlords asking them if they can reduce the amount of rent they need to pay in exchange to stay for an extra year.

steeznson,

The fantasy sports are all about evading local gambling laws. Since only a handful of states even allow sports betting the only way to operate in those states is to have something which is legally distinct from gambling (even though it clearly is). It’s similar to pachinko parlours in Japan.

steeznson,

Unfortunately steeznson is extremely close to my actual name so I couldn’t resist it
