thanksforallthefish,

Lol. Yeah that was my reaction to the headline as well. “You did what ?”

thanksforallthefish,

1ft.io also seems to work and by the branding seems unrelated to 12ft

thanksforallthefish,

While lvxferre’s instructions are the ideal, there’s a simpler option

Download the mullvad.deb file.

Doubleclick on it from your file manager and it should automatically instsll

Every time you start mullvad it will check if the version is current and prompt you (with a link to click on) to upgrade if it’s not.

Note that works on mint, should work on ubuntu unless they’ve disabled dpkg

What are the differences between linux distributions?

Hey guys! Trying to understand what developers actually do to create a yet another distro, or what are the differences between existing distros. Lets say we have ubuntu and fedora. What are the differences? Excluding DE, Installer, theme, installed packages/libs and package manager. They both are FHS compliant, both running...

You may wish to investigate Bedrock linux, it allows you to Frankenstein 2 (or more) distros together. I’m sure there’s a way you could have your KDE neon kernel plus BMC while having everything else Arch

Time to ditch #duckduckgo (lemmy.world)

In the last couple of months I have noticed an increasing trend of supplying me search results that are completely unrelated to the current query and tie back to my location or previous searches. I can say this with a high degree of certainty this is without a doubt beyond the 100th instance this has happened....

thanksforallthefish,

Nope not locked. I have always on vpn (random countries) anti fingerprinting and DDG happily allows the search localisation to my actual or a different country

thanksforallthefish,

Doesnt this mean that you’re by default agreeing to the cookies though ? I’ve tested not responding to the pop up on several websites and they all write cookies if you don’t respond

thanksforallthefish,

The plural of anecdote isnt data. I’ve been riding for 45 years and I’m still here.

Data shows the vast majority of 2 vehicle motorcycle accidents are the fault of the other vehicle

Is ProtonVPN worth it?

@piracy

Got reminded of this while reading about ProtonMail. The reason I haven't gotten into proper is that I don't have a VPN for torrenting, and the reason I don't have a VPN is that I don't . So it would be nice if I got a good VPN while myself.

Will ProtonVPN rat me out to Comcast? I know some VPNs don't hide what you're downloading from your ISP, for reasons I don't fully understand.

thanksforallthefish,

PIA were taken over by a very dodgy company a couple of years ago, I don’t recommend people use them.

“Who knows what a company that had hidden malware in their software in the past is capable of today”

thanksforallthefish,

Well given op said download it from microsoft then yes it will be riddled with spyware but that’s the genuine windows experience® for you…

The downvoted guy you replied to is right. You can download the (genuine) iso off microsoft and install it without paying M$ anything, it will work fine other than not being able to change wallpaper etc.

If that small restriction annoys you the MAS (linked elsewhere in thread) is the answer

thanksforallthefish,

1 Varies by brand and model, but usual a cellular connectivity module, aka telematics. Some cars you can simply pull a fuse, some make it hard

2 Killing the telematics by pulling a fuse can cut off inbuilt navigation functions or the entire display and control system depending on how integrated it is. Work arounds can include pulling the GSM module or faraday caging the antenna.

Need specific models for more specific answers.

thanksforallthefish,

Not everyone on the internet lives in western countries with 1gb fibre connections, hell remote parts of the US are still stuck on very slow ADSL if they don’t have access to starlink.

Your seeder may be in ButtFucke WY or could be in a little village in Phillipines or Nigeria

thanksforallthefish,

Slanted but accurate.

Neither Lemmy nor Reddit are private, they’re both publicly indexable (google et al).

On the other hand reddit goes to a lot of trouble to capture everything about you. Lemmy is not quite that greedy.

One is a for profit willing to do whatever it takes to make a buck. The other is FOSS and run by volunteers.

I think it’s pretty clear which is the greater threat.
