theskyisfalling,

How is Serato these days? I moved to Traktor around 5 years ago but have recently been looking to change controllers and not sure if I should stick with Traktor or try moving back.

theskyisfalling,

I’m into the real dubstep scene and without looking into private trackers your best bets are soulseek or ripping the tracks yourself from Spotify if they get a release on there.

Beyond that I haven’t found any other, better resources other than just going ahead and buying stuff. Also you didn’t mention bandcamp so you should probably check that out if you haven’t already. Not a fan of beatport or Juno personally.

theskyisfalling,

Does it though when they control both ends. It is encrypted between each end which I guess secures against things like a man in the middle attack from outside parties but their app encrypts it on one end and decrypts it on the other. I have a very hard time believing that they don’t “read” your messages at some point in that process.

theskyisfalling,

Yeah I second this, it was so fucking easy to get in you just have to look up when the window is each week, jump on their irc, read a minimal amount of rules and then answer some questions on them to prove you read them. It took me about half an hour.

The VIP paywall thing is bullshit too. They do have a points system which was a little confusing at first but if you take the time to read all the introductory posts explaining them then it is an easy system to follow and you can easily amass many freeleech wedges which completely negates the so called VIP wall.

Can’t recommend them enough and so much fucking selection compared to free trackers.

theskyisfalling, (edited )

I’m probably in a minority here but I like it on the left with auto-hide on xD

Reason being I used a tiny laptop thing with a 10 inch screen as my main device for a while and this work best for the screen space and now I just like it better than anything else and have used it like that regardless of screen real estate since.

theskyisfalling,

I’d love to be able to boycott places with self checkouts as I hate that shit too but I also need to eat and unless I started just eating crisps and sweets from the local newsagents I wouldn’t be able to buy any food at all around here :(

Ways to pirate music as convenient as Spotify?

The reason I gave up on MP3’s and subscribed to Spotify was because Spotify was easy. I’ve been listening “Iron Maiden - Empire of the Clouds” song every day and like a week ago, its removed. This was the last straw for me. Right now I’m trying to find “Stremio” of the music world. Can someone assist?...

theskyisfalling,

Seen as OP already uses Spotify I would add in ripping music directly from there using something like soggfy for anything you can’t find on soulseek.

Obviously doesn’t help with the removed iron maiden song but is an easy way to be able to make your own copy of things still on there.

theskyisfalling,

Does this fix the issue where the app takes over audio even if you have it muted?

Honestly the all works great except this one issue which is really frustrating and pushing me to considering finding something better.

theskyisfalling,

No worries, I did post about it within another thread on here but it must’ve gotten missed.

To clarify if I open something with sound it will open muted but still take over my audio and pause what I was listening to. If I resume what I was listening to and then press play again, it will pause it again :)

theskyisfalling,

I’ve never bookmarked anything but 8 / 10 times when I upvote something, load a different post and come back to the feed I was previously on the upvote will have disappeared.

Usually have to upvote most things 2 or 3 times before it shows as staying on my end.

theskyisfalling,

I had considered it could just be visual and was applying the upvote even if it was no longer showing on my end but I hadn’t actually tested it. Good to know it actually does stay though.

I had no idea that you could download movies from the 90ies from archive.org (jeena.net)

I couldn’t find the Flintstones movie from 1994 anywhere but googling it I found it here archive.org/details/the-flintstones_202304 and you can either download it via torrent or directly. On top of it it says that the movie is CC0 which means Public Domain. But that can’t really be, it’s only 29 years old....

theskyisfalling,

I think he is referring to my home instance - lemmy.dbzer0.com

theskyisfalling,

If you want 320 mp3s then I can’t recommend soggfy enough. It doesn’t trawl YouTube and then download you whatever shitty version it finds it intercepts and rips the tracks as you play them via a modified desktop client.

I have compared the files with 320 mp3s I have bought using a spectrum analyser and they are identical.

theskyisfalling,

My god this guys “comics” are fucking terrible.

theskyisfalling,

My greatest purchase of the last decade I reckon. I first tried them 9 years ago and since then I am onto my 6th pair, no because they break easily but simply because I use them for between 8 and 10 hours every single day.

I do a lot of running and cycling and they allow me to be aware of idiots in cars whilst being able to listen to music or books whilst I ride / run. I use them at work with ear defense in so I can still hear what my machine is doing.

They are light, comfortable and really just the best way to listen to stuff for me.

Do you use aftershokz?

theskyisfalling,

I don’t know if that is volume based though as I do exactly the same and even when the volume is down low it is like my brain is tuned into listen on that level and so I miss the first sentence of what is said from an outside source. At least I can hear they are there however!

They really are great for so many applications. I used to do Acid a lot more than I do these days and they were fucking great for a trip and out walking in the woods. I could have them on a good volume to soundtrack my walk but whilst also being able to hear nature around me. Just perfect for trippy walks.

theskyisfalling,

I don’t think that they would be able to cancel the noise of an industrial environment and it would end up being a case of blasting sound into your ears to try and cover up the noise.

These with ear protection saves your ears a lot more.

theskyisfalling,

You aren’t going to find much that is remotely close to the selection on soulseek without getting into a private tracker of some kind that serves the sort of content you are after.

As someone else said you should probably just fix your VPN and carry on using soulseek as it really is the best option out there that is easily available.
