I think we all draw a line between privacy and convenience and I think I found mine and settled into a comfort zone of sorts. I use Fedora 38. I’ve been seeing all these posts about Linux lately, and looking at them, I can honestly see the appeal. I’d love having so much autonomy over the OS I use, and customize it however I like, even having so many options to choose from when it comes to distros. The only thing holding me back, however, is incompatibility issues....
You’re likely thinking KaiOS. They are still contributing what is required under MPL-2.0 but the rest is proprietary. KaiOS 3.x finally got off of a browser from 2016 as the base, but very few have upgraded their apps to be compatible (the tweaks were minor) & others have used it as a reminder that they were still ‘supporting’ a platform like whoever is maintaining or using that WhatsApp thing for chat.
There’s also Capyloon built from B2G, but it’s still early on & is targeting touch phones, instead of feature phones.
It would be nice to see it around IMO since it’d just be another enhancement to progressive web applications & JavaScript is a better target than Java or Swift.
I have had 1080, 4k, & 2k laptops in my life. 1080 text is blurry. 4k is obviously overkill wasting battery on pixels you can’t see. 2k has crisp text without so much wasted density & you have to get unreasonably close to the panel to tell the difference.
Not 2k. Not 16:9. Probably doesn’t even cover DCI-P3 or decent color accuracy. Folks are gonna keep thinking Linux is a geeks-only thing if you have terrible panel that’s bad for content creation.

How do y'all deal with programs not supported on Linux?
