But why. There are so many good, legit places. Why do you feel you owe them your allegiance. Even despite knowing it’s a scam. This is the weirdest behaviour to me, sorry.
Just another douche trying to capitalize on misspellings or close enough URLs to shill their ads, or javascript mouse clicks, etc. There are tons of imposter sites for the bigger public trackers.
They just want ad clicks. It’s a really basic scam. Duplicate the website. Flood it with javascript mouse clicks and you can get an ad impression for every 3/4 clicks. Multiply that by thousands you can make decent coin.
I got a DVD, never used with cellophane intact, produced in 1993 on ebay. I thought maybe, since I didn’t get a DRM warning, it predated DRM, and I could just copy it to my hard drive, so I did. Both the copy and the DVD are now corrupted and unplayable. I want to fix the DVD then rip it to my hard drive. Googling gives plenty...
That can be solved by opening the disc using VLC when makemkv is scanning. VLC will free up the lock.
I’ve been wrestling with something similar for a week lol.
There’s a thread about the error on the makemkv forums. And I’ve personally salvaged discs this way only yesterday.
Also, makemkv can open a DVD as a raw data file. Mine were old TV shows so I was able to pull the individual episodes avoiding the errors or at least getting some if one was corrupt. I saved an additional 3 discs this way.
One last method if you can set the speed of the drive to 1x; rip slow and set lots of retries (5) to maybe give it a slightly better chance. 1x was always the most reliable. Any speed over and you have mixed results.
Lastly, there’s a list on the net about best drives. If you really care and want to throw $100 at it, pick one up. The drives for $20 you find on Amazon won’t read anything a few years old. Theirs lasers are garbage compared to ones manufactured 10+ years ago.
I love the entire process. I love that I can send them cash in an envelope with an account number on it and they’ll just top it up lol. I wish every online retailer had to do what they voluntarily do.
Because the entire internet is one big Amazon link back. I’m not even joking. Ran DDG earlier on a dvd burner model and the first two pages were Amazon links. The next were other competing stores. WTF.
But I mean we gated it all behind like 3 companies. Can’t believe it didn’t turn out good.
Surveillance is less about knowing specifics about one person, but broad trends on large groups. How communities respond.
This is why prices are 2.99 not 3 in many parts of the world.
Why we frame it “free delivery or 10% off for pick up” instead of “10% more for delivery.”
Why all commercials are louder than the content they play from.
Why you’re more likely to pay extra for the same item if it’s packaged nicely.
These are the data points of value to capitalism. And this is why mass surveillance is so dangerous. Because it arms those willing to exploit us with vast amounts of information, most of it unobtainable without the invasion of privacy. It’s these data that makes things like V for Vendetta possible (given the right timing).
Espionage (foreign and domestic) are the byproducts of the Information Age.
I am fully aware of what vpn services to use and not. I am not using Express VPN, I am simply doing research for a master thesis, when I came across these results from Express VPN. I don’t get why the entire world isn’t on Mullvad.
I don’t trust these guys at all. I trialed them and despite their full money back guarantee, they locked me into a support loop, always switching support staff with boiler plate responses and links that dealt with account issues or whatever. It wasn’t until I left a stern reply demanding the refund or I would escalate the matter with the proper regulatory bodies.
It took 4 support tickets. To me, they came across hella shady.
I’m going to assume they didn’t implement this because money. Their app runs on everything, from iOS to Android to Windows. Cost savings they likely just flipped camera permissions and didn’t care about small edge cases like these.
With that said, Mullvad is a million times better, cheaper and doesn’t require even an email or account creation to use. They created a system that effectively anonymizes the user before they even subscribe.
I use ProtonVPN for everything, and I’ve started noticing more and more sites simply blocking me if I try to connect to them through ProtonVPN. As much as it sucks, I’ve more or less become acclimated to having to deal with an increased number of captchas while using a VPN; but I’m pretty angry about being blocked...
You can’t hide behind a VPN and access the entirety of the net. There will always be some site that will block you. It’s just par for the course. Unwinnable battle.
If you do get caught, you’re fucked. Like fucked. The legal headaches and costs going up against Adobe or MS will ruin you… forever.
With that said, pirating tools is one thing, but using other people’s loops or artistic work without approval is another matter altogether. And that kind of stuff will land you into all kinds of trouble, not to mention curb your work as talk will quickly get around in the community.
If you’re serious about becoming a musician or artist or a creative selling their work, reputation and community standing is like 90% of it.
And if you’re wondering how can an artist tell? We know our work. And people talk. Share stuff. Sooner or later, it’ll get around. The internet is still powered by people.
