I’m doing it exactly like I was doing it on reddit, that is, build up my personal home page with all the communities I want to see then I changed my settings to default to subscribed when opening Lemmy instead of All.

Every now and then I check the list of all communities to see if there’s something new worth following, that way it’s also easier to avoid communities that do a lot of spamming, overwhelming the smaller (more interesting IMO) ones.

What's the point of buying new phones every years?

Other than your carrier give it for free or cheap, I don’t really see the reason why should you buy new phone. I’ve been using Redmi Note 9 for past 3 years and recently got my had on Poco F5. I don’t see the point of my ‘upgrade’. I sold it and come back to my Note 9. Gaming? Most of them are p2w or microtransaction...

That’s the reason why I switched to iPhone after many years of Android, security updates are vital nowadays with all the sensitive data and apps we use on our phones, Apple is the only one that guarantees al least 5 years, iPhones are not too expensive if you don’t buy the latest models and I’d rather avoid supporting companies that don’t understand the importance of security.

Well, Google isn’t famous for being reliable in the long run with their services, Apple is proven at this point, tho who knows, I’ll wait a few years and see if Google is still at it with their Pixels.

Happy to hear companies are finally getting it.

True, I bought an ipad more than 7 years ago to read because e-readers are too small for my liking.

I don’t use it much anymore since I have an e-writer now, but it still receives updates regularly, whatever comes to my phone comes to it as well, it’s impressive.

I’m a fringe case then lol, I keep them until they actually break, they do last 4-5 years for me, sometimes more, I don’t make intense use of my phone, I much prefer using my PC for basically everything.

Instead of deleting your Reddit account, consider using chatgpt to make comments instead

And make sure not to click on any links. If enough people use chatgpt or other LLM's to generate comments that are wordy but clearly just filler, it'll give advertisers pause and tank the value of the site as training data. Reddit's response will probably be to start banning users it thinks are doing this but normal users will...

STOP giving them traffic, that's the only smart way to deal with it.

Do they hope to pick up all other 3rd party apps users? Not that it matters much to me since my reason for quitting reddit is the way they mistreated the entire userbase (I don't use apps), but I'm curious nonetheless to see how this ends.

It's not a rat, it's a Lemming.

Reddit is a play on words "I read it -> on reddit"

If I wanted to use logic, I'd say taking both A and B is the only way to have a guaranteed $1,000,000 outcome, because B only could get you money but also nothing.

But, if I choose B only, I'm sort of "forcing" the machine into that kind of prediction, right? I don't know about this experiment, but since your post says it's a paradox, I think that's how it works.

So my choice is B, the machine has predicted it and I get a nice $1,000,000,000.

Am I totally off? :D

I noticed the same, probably because reddit has become really bad in the last years but I didn't realize it until I joined here a couple of weeks ago.

It's indeed refreshing being able to have honest discussions on a platform that's not infested by bots, propaganda, disguised ads, mass shitposting, hidden agendas, etc.

If lemmy becomes wildly popular to the masses, it's possible things will change for the worse, who knows, but I'll enjoy it a lot in the meantime.

Why don't we use PeerTube to host the videos for Lemmy/kbin?

Would sound stupid as I don't indepth of PeerTube yet but I have heard that PeerTube is federated video sharing platform. I also heard it can't hold much a load which makes sense as HD videos takes lots of load. That begs me the question why don't we use it for small/short videos(not those vertical videos) to build communities...

Gosh that's bad! They're going to break a lot of old forum posts and guides. More than ever we need to migrate out stuff to the fediverse.

That doesn’t explain why John Oliver was chosen tho.

That's stupid, I mean, cat nets are basically invisible from down the street, I have one on my balcony, your neighbors complained just for the sake of it, well done anyway! :D

They're not lowering the standard on what qualifies as interesting, they're just taking the "fuck" part to the letter lmao.
