underisk,

Einstein called quantum entanglement “spooky action at a distance” so you’re in good company.

underisk,

There’s a default invisible prompt that precedes every conversation that sets parameters like tone, style, and taboos. The AI was instructed to behave like this, at least somewhat.

underisk,

I didn’t say they specifically told it to be condescending. They probably told it to adopt something like a professional neutral tone and the trained model produced a mildly condescending tone because that’s what it associated with those adjectives. This is why I said it was only somewhat instructed to do this.

They almost certainly tweaked and tested it before releasing it to the public. So they knew what they were getting either way and this must be what they wanted or close enough.

underisk,

Every time I see an experiment like this it’s wildly successful and then never made into any kind of law or permanent social program.

underisk,

I guess you’re against COVID treatments too because coming in contact with other human beings is also a choice. Lung Cancer cure? No thanks, they chose to smoke those cigarettes so I would like them to suffer.

underisk,

If you have insurance, private or public, you’re paying for them either way. That’s how insurance works.

underisk,

Funny how capitalism seems to always stand in the way of doing anything objectively good. I guess the homeless will just have to hold on until we figure out how to do welfare in a capitalist economy.

underisk, (edited )

Complete what program the money was provided with no strings attached. I also saw no selection criteria so I don’t know why you think this group was hand selected for maximum results. Any decent study would randomize the participants so I’m sure a statistically proportional number of mentally ill homeless also got the payments.

And as for the part about it not effecting the perception of homelessness, directly from the article:

The guaranteed income also dramatically reduced visible homelessness

underisk,

For video, I think the best you’re likely to get is embedded players from popular video hosts. The costs and challenges of hosting video content are just not worth it for the people hosting the instances.

GIF as a format is garbage. Terrible compression, poor quality, and weird quirks. They’re so bad that most platforms that host GIFs are just transparently converting them to MP4 videos because they actually take up fewer resources. If they get added the only way I see it happening is as extremely short form video with strict file size limits.

If I’m being honest though I don’t miss ithem at all.

underisk,

Stress the fact that federation isnt a new or confusing concept. They already engage with federated services without realizing it. Stuff like email, dns, Usenet, etc are all “federated” they just haven’t been described that way because they existed before that term was used to describe it.

underisk,

Yeah but that's not what they're doing. They're doing a contrarian circlejerk that'll get boring after a few days or until the next thing happens with the steam platform that they all want to talk about. There's already a highly upvoted post there about the UI update.

underisk,

Did the mods actually make any kind of decree like that, though? It sounds like they're just doing an easily ignored automod message on every post and letting the users do as they will. The post i mentioned has 7k upvotes right now and its a been up for at least one full day. https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/14bww9f/about_this_weeks_update/
