Yeah, it’s a joke. The white ones are missing the top layer it seems.

Flexible workspaces where nobody has a fixed desk gets reinvented every five-ten years by some manager coaches that charges way too much for lectures and yet there has been exactly zero employees that want to start their every single regular day in the office looking for a vacant anonymous desk a good distance from the microwave, with a working chair and nobody annoying next to them.

@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, the Bikini Atoll was a testing ground for nukes, but that’s not the reason they are strangely hollow outlines of islands.

As far as I understand it, it’s because there were islands formed from underwater volcanic eruptions, but over time the inner islands sunk and eroded away and what makes up the island today are actually the surfaced parts of the once surrounding coral reef.

Huh. So I guess fusion is only 20 years away.

whaleross, (edited ) to asklemmy in People who own typewriters, what is your favorite use for it?
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

My mum owns an old Olivetti that seems to be a collectors item nowadays. Our mutual favourite (and only) use for it is to notify each other when we stumble across one for sale and how much it goes for. They seem to be in the area of €80-150 so not quite the family heirloom.

Edit; Oh wow. Haven’t checked prices for few years. Seems they are selling tenfold now.

It is also a problem if it is not obvious that it is bot generated content and another if it floods actual user generated content.

whaleross, to asklemmy in Does anyone else resent the links to Reddit?
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

Agreed that blocking is useful, but the default shouldn’t be having to jump through hoops to make the fediverse usable, especially for new users.

I’d suggest the mirrors of other social media be delegated to their own instance that clearly states that it is a bot-run Reddit or whatever mirror and other instances don’t show them by default.

Those that want the mirrored no engagement content can subscribe to those on those particular instances and nobody needs to have a problem.

whaleross, to asklemmy in What are your "poor person" money life hacks?
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

That’s true. Food prep is great for the economy and also for the soul. You can generally find larger amounts cheaper per weight and it’s nice to know them you get home and are tired that there is some good food waiting to be reheated.

whaleross, (edited ) to asklemmy in What are your "poor person" money life hacks?
@whaleross@lemmy.world avatar

Cook your own food. Ready made meals will always be made with as much cheap non nutritional filler as possible. Learn how to use a few spices, buy produce that is cheap with the season and keep track of weekly discounts in your local stores. It will save you money, you’ll eat better and it’s rewarding to have a tasty meal in the end.

Also I’m surprised how many people don’t seem to understand pricing in general. When comparing prices, see the price per weight or volume. That is money/kilogram or money/liter (substitute with freedom units). Money per package can be deceiving if you compare 75 money for a smaller package or 95 money for a larger.

Edit: If the need to learn spices makes you overwhelmed, start out with some spice mixes! Pick a couple of different blends that are different, like one Cajun Mix and one Mediterranean and one oh idk something else culturally generic. Also salt, pepper, paprika and bullion. There. You can make lots of different sorts of foods and learn on the way what spices you like. Don’t be afraid to experiment. Don’t get discouraged. Some stuff will turn out meh, but others will make you go wow. All of those are learning experiences for the future!
