whoisearth,

I would disagree and say it’s more akin to a philosopher king hence less anarchy and more monarchy. It’s all good until the king dies and let’s see who succeeds them.

It will be most telling when Linus dies.

whoisearth,

My brain says the blue pill because money.

My heart says the red pill because I miss my soulmate and would give anything for a chance with her again.

whoisearth,

I have an electric chainsaw. Fuck gas. For what I need one for battery is perfectly fine

whoisearth,

As someone with an electric chainsaw gas is still magnitudes most powerful. This sword would be cool and would cut but it wouldn’t be like butter. You’d have to go relatively slow to avoid excessive friction binding the blade.

whoisearth,

As someone who once had true love… True love is the wish 100% of the time.

Is there a forum for people who are lonely and sad but specifically not incel sickos?

like you know you’re a good person at heart but life circumstances and trauma and bullying and etc prevented you from learning the proper social skills to find companionship. not necessarily a forum to actually find friends (i find going into things with that intention feels fake and weird), but rather a forum to commiserate...

whoisearth,

Bang on. I’m feeling down right now (relationship that ended I’ve never recovered from years later) and no amount of chatting with people online is going to fill that gaping hole or help me patch it.

Professional help should always be approached first and foremost.

Of course, that’s not accessible for many people which is a shame and for that I have no answer, just that seeking to fill that hole with like-feeling people online is a recipe in disaster. Negativity breeds negativity.

whoisearth,

And I’ll tell you right back that people don’t care about your list here. You want to get people onboard start pivoting the conversation. “yaytransit” is far more positive and forward thinking than “fuckcars”.

In fact, the responses I’ve gotten already are a good indication of how deluded this community is. You’re not here to promote change, you’re here to scream into the wind.

So I guess consider that more a failing on my part.

whoisearth,

Honest question. Does anyone here have enough humility to understand there’s a similar checklist of things an automobile solves?

Now it doesn’t mean it’s the right solution but particularly in North America due to lack of XYZ automobiles are king.

It’s very easy to go “hurr durr automobiles bad” but do you understand the multitude of reasons why we use them? All the things that need to be improved or fixed before we entertain the alternatives?

Saying this as a car owner who takes public transit far more than other car owners.

Ending support for Windows 10 could send 240 million computers to the landfill. Why not install Linux on them? (gadgettendency.com)

With support ending for Windows 10, the most popular desktop operating system in the world currently, possibly 240 million pcs may be sent to the landfill. This is mostly due to Windows 11’s exorbitant requirements. This will most likely result in many pcs being immediately outdated, and prone to viruses. GNU/Linux may be...

Herein lies the rub where the discourse online always fails. It’s easy to blame the rich, corporations, politicians, etc. but the end of the day they’re simply doing what the masses want. We are the problem.

Now that said, I understand the appeal of blaming a smaller segment of the population because it’s easier to shift blame and it’s easier to force change that way, but rest assured Apple stops making a new phone every year their brand dies unless everyone stops doing it. They’re doing it because we are conditioned to want it.

We are the underlying problem. All of us.

Edit - having my point proven is amazing.

whoisearth,

Called it on Lemmy a few months ago! Something about him and MoistCritical just give me bad juju. Can’t explain it except as a father you learn to trust your gut sometimes and it was run of those times.

If this makes sense. YouTube algorithm aggressively pushes Joe Rogan. In that sphere are other trends that come with it. Sadly they come into that picture

Kind of related but I follow lilAggy on twitch. He pissed off some of chat one day because he told them to fuck off with their Andrew Tate bullshit and full on explained bluntly how Andrew Tate is a mysogynistic fuckwad.

whoisearth,

So interesting as I intentionally walk slower now. There’s something cathartic about watching people pass you constantly knowing nothing they’re going to is that important in the grand scheme of things.

whoisearth,

I mean someone is already cosplaying some romanticized ideal of someone 200 years ago is it really that much of a stretch to have someone dressed as an anamophized dog-man?

whoisearth,

Amen. I grew up in rural Ontario where everyone and their kid has either a pickup truck or a beat up old Cutlass. I yearn to have a pickup because of how awesome they are. Challenge is I live in suburbia. It doesn’t make sense and I can’t justify it. People really need to think critically more about their purchases.

whoisearth,

OS2/Warp

IBM showed us there could be a superior OS that wasn’t Windows or Mac. Been chasing that dragon ever since.

whoisearth,

Which one is gayer? It’s a competition damnit!

whoisearth,

AAA titles are already selling between 90 and 130 CAD depending on the version. 150 for the new GTA would not surprise me.

I am happy I’m a patient gamer so aside from very specific titles (Elden Ring) I rarely buy day 1.

Jokes aside communism is just as bad because it does nothing to prevent power from congregating at the top. The only difference is the type of corruption.

Talk to anyone who grew up in the eastern block about bread lines. Communism is a failure in comparison to capitalism.

whoisearth,

As a landlord (renting out my basement) Amen. Fuck people with multiple homes for the purpose of “passive income”.

whoisearth,

Unless you’re typing code why is it important?

whoisearth,

Buddy of mine survived a PIP and is now one level up. Took a long time but he did it. Sometimes the PIP is related to politics (ie. Asshole “leaders”)

whoisearth,

Friendly reminder it’s never about consumer rights. It’s about who is in control of the data.

A question you can all ask yourself. Despite the warts in both who would you rather control your data (you have no choice here. Someone is controlling your data and it is not you)

A. Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc.

B. Government

You’ll get strong answers either way. Personally I’d rather the government strictly from an accountability perspective but that also warrants governments not electing shitheads which unfortunately the world is leaning towards with these populist right wing politicians gaining favour.

whoisearth,

Killer Mike. He a real one.

Charles Barkley as well.
