Wasn’t it Sony that released an album that’d root your system? Bunch of criminals if you ask me.

Naive. There must be more practical methods to counter child abuse. For example always holding people accountable when they are known to hurt children would be a good start.

I think it’s simply an ongoing thought process. Just like the threads debate. Personally I think these are today’s questions to shape future society. Asking it over and over is just an impulse to try and resolve it.

xilliah, to piracy in I'm currently downloading a show that is on a service to which I subscribe

Youtube has that too where it says 1080p but actually it’s potato quality.

I’ve always wondered what the genuine ‘cost’ of pirating is. Like if someone from a developing country pirates then it doesn’t count because they wouldn’t have bought it any way due to the high price. And if someone from a developed country pirates, but there is no reasonable alternative, then that is void too. I wouldn’t be surprised if that number was really low. Why go through the trouble of pirating if you can pay for it and get a reasonable service?

From my side of the screen I can say I believe there’s a lot of untapped power in moderation tools. I know there’s issues surrounding development but I hope these will be resolved with time.

For example I block several users and communities on a daily basis. There must be others who do this as well. It doesn’t bother me at all. Perhaps we can tap into that. I’ve read about this moderation technique where you subscribe to the moderation of one or more other users that you trust. It’s an interesting idea worth trying out.

The truth is that moderation is a complex topic in society and I feel we are a part of moving that forward. Just look at any popular social media platform and how badly it’s managed there. Add to that that development is complex too and that any system design will tend to naturally align to certain biases.

Making a walled garden is a bit like leaving the table, and it’ll rob many potential future users of finding us. So ya it is the wild west right now but maybe we together can be a voice of reason and compassion.

xilliah, to chat in how's your week going, Beehaw

Well if anybody read my previous comment, I had a date a few weeks ago and scored an apartment. She allowed me to move in earlier, before she moved out. So we’re roommates now! And it’s a studio apartment so ya she’s an angel. Of course I immediately started doing all the chores and trying my best to cook the best meal for her.

To be honest I’m sad that she’s looking for a new place. I wouldn’t mind living with her. In fact I think I would really like it. It’s like we just click.

Anyway I woke up with the same smile I went to bed with. I was technically homeless and living in my office. It was damn cold. I am talking 13 degrees if you set the heating to 1000 euro a month, because electricity and war.

We used to heat it with wood and that was like 350 a month, but at least it was warm. It’s not allowed any more.

Well I’m just glad things are more stable now. It’s too much to explain but it was really bad. Now I can take care of the stuff that’s urgent and then hopefully I’ll be bored for a while. Then I’ll continue with my life work!

xilliah, to privacy in How bad is Idea of .Zip as password manager?

To add to the rest: A manager also stores the history. And it has a pass generator. And lots of quality of life things.

Love your analogy. However I must say windows looks terrible. Then again so do suits, so it holds up. I had to run a win10 VM a while back in order to flip the developer bit on the oculus (don’t even get me started on that PoS). Hadn’t used it in years. Felt like some kind of money grab freak show. I couldn’t even mount an iso without having to visit several pushy sites and use one of those creepy installers. That’s when it hit me how digitally spoiled I truly am.

xilliah, to piracy in What site should I trust?

I’d avoid any websites containing the string google.

I’ve socially transitioned and I can safely say it’s like going through a portal into a different dimension.

I mean it’s a bit like saying software is just 1s and 0s. Ya great but I still need to run Krita to draw.

xilliah, to privacy in ProtonMail Complied with 5,957 Data Requests in 2022 - Still Secure and Private?

Well I’m a customer and I think it’s fine if the requests are legitimate. The question then of course is what is legitimate.

Unfortunately I’m considering to put an end to a new friendship. It’s like every time I’m around her I trigger her and it becomes a drama. I’ve already tried to adjust again and again but I have to face that I’m just a hedgehog to her and we’re not compatible.

The thing is I love using sarcasm and making slight jabs at people, it’s like second nature to me. Honestly it’s really not that extreme and I’ve asked all my friends and they say they enioy it. But to her these are real personal attacks and enough cause to ruin our time together.

It sucks cuz we had some really good laughs together. But also I’m done with stepping on mines, even when I am careful.

Wow that’s even worse than I thought. Especially that they included copyleft software.
