What is Swarm Merging?
Every now and then, when I’m connected to a torrent a peer will connect that has a reference to “Swarm Merging” in their name. What is swarm merging?

The worst part of youtube is the terrible comments so i use this extension to see reddit comments under youtube videos. It would be great to have a similar extension for Lemmy comments to appear on youtube videos....
Hello, do you know about a script or app or so that can backup data from a Lemmy instance as an end-user? At least the list of subscribed communities, settings, profile (bio) should be nice. I’ve been on VLemmy and lost one full evening trying to figure out what my subscription were (well not completely lost my time I also...
!nerdgeist is a community for those wanting to nerd out over things that maybe folks in your IRL commununities don’t care as much about. Share what you’re passionate about, discuss movie or video game news, or show off your nerdy collections!...
Other than subscribing to communities, how else can I expand my feed some? I just started working with Lemmy over the weekend and I’d like to see comments from more than just the communities I subscribe to so that I can learn about others.
I just jumped onto lemmy.world on PC during lunch break and got some sick images popping up (some guy stating he raped a child in the woods) and old men having sex. I stopped there. Is Lemmy under attack or? I’m on mobile now and it hasn’t happened here.
My family currently uses life360(iOS and android). But I hate their privacy policy. I’m looking for an alternative. The thing that’s difficult is I can’t find one that’s opt in to each other. Like my parents are split so they dont want to share with each other but the rest of us do. Prefer selfhosted but anything is...
Sure, finding games on the high seas is easy enough on my windows machine, but if I’m on my linux partition and want to play a game that would otherwise work if I bought it in Steam with proton, how would I go about getting the game to run?
My idea is this: I just want to send to a server like this a request from my domain name and username, but I don’t want to run a full instance. Is this technically possible?
I wanted to create a community i was missing personally. Here people with (or without) social anxiety can discuss the topic, vent, find information or just talk in a safe space....
I searched for and found a community on another instance, but I don’t see any options to subscribe… could someone ELI5? I must be missing something obvious....
Explain any one particular complex topic using an analogy you found interesting or easily understandable.
Is there a way to see what posts you have upvoted? I was trying to show a cool thing I saw on lemmy earlier to someone but I can’t seem to find a list of my past upvotes....
Tired of seeing posts about Threads, for example. I would appreciate being able to apply a soft (show that post exists but collapsed and with warning) or hard mute (don’t display the post) of posts with that keyword (in title or body)....
For me-- Lemmy is getting dangerously close to pulling me away from Reddit, and I love it, but still, there’s a ways to go in terms of ‘critical features,’ yeah?...
As I get older into adulthood I feel like more and more things require my attention. Trying to juggle work, family, home maintenance etc I’m constantly busy. I can almost never find time to rest because there is always something that has to be done. How do you find time to rest and cope with the stress but also get the things...
I know there’s donations and the owners can use their own money, but there’s a limit. I doubt a platform with hundreds of thousands of daily users can survive with only donations.
It seems like for at least a decade every application/framework has had their own paste buffer, and honestly I’m surprised this isn’t “just working” out of the box by now....
I am sorry if this has been asked before, but when or will it be open sourced. It is the best Lemmy Client i have used yet but i dont like anything being closed source and i read somewhere the dev wants to open source it at some point. Just interested if there is an estimate.
