I’ve gotten 1 whole Lemmy Updoot on 2 comments. I feel like a god… Now can someone explain wtf this “grass” shit is everyone keeps talking about?

Fais, to piracy in It’s true

My game changer was going to bflix.gg and downloading the android app from there (OnStream).

Every episode of anything can be streamed! If I get problems I can download an episode str8 on my phone. I use xcast to then chromecast it directly on my tv.

For anime, I go to 9anime.

LITERALLY FREE

thedrizzle, to piracy in It’s true

With Sonarr/Radarr and Jellyfin, that convenience has effectively been trumped. I don’t know how they can compete

halon5, to piracy in It’s true

It’s why I pay for Spotify, convenience and pretty much everything in one place. For TV/Movies it’s Plex and the high seas.

thedrizzle,

Wow that’s old.

Frankly, as shitty is a lot of that stuff was, DVDs were like the last form of media distribution that I would actually call tolerable in terms of consumer friendliness. You still got a physical disk with the actual movie that was easy to rip and share, no internet required. If it weren’t for the quality limitations, I’d still collect them as the primary physical backup to my media server.

100,

4k Blu Rays exist. Aside from the pain of having to get a special cracked drive to rip them they are my primary backup for my movie server.

the only big shortcoming to DVDs was the region locking …

neardeaf,

This fucking hurt to read… thank fuck for piracy

StrongGoal2001,

I don’t use piracy for convenience. I watch movies and series together with my girlfriend (in a remote way) and we haven’t found a way to watch together (Like Teleparty for Netflix or Disney Plus native “Watch Party”) the content without the remote partner watching it in 320p (using Plex “Watch together” functionality). It simply doesn’t work.

djmarcone, to RedditMigration in Apollo was always reddit

No no rif was reddit now rif is dead.

amzd, to RedditMigration in Apollo was always reddit

Apollo showing up is due to them using Reddit in their AppStore title which is indexed in Spotlight search

Bumblebb, to RedditMigration in Apollo was always reddit

I have been a daily reddit user since 2008. I had never seen a single Apollo ad or any discussion of Apollo.

Your search results are biased towards what you have browsed on Google.

Also you shouldn't be seeing ads with proper internet hygiene. Ublock origin, no script, vpn if you can. Res will strip out every reddit ad. And I'd highly recommend duck duck go or something more private than Google these days

I feel that, except i was using Infinity app for reddit, it was a very good open source reddit client.

period. Centralized systems like Reddit are inherently beholden to the views of the people who own the central hub. Even if the people at Reddit now were “cool”, eventually a piece of shit would end up in a position of power and compromise the site. As we have seen time and time again, both recently and throughout history, we cannot allow our systems to be contingent on the assumed goodwill of the people who run it. Said differently, we need to assume that bastards will take control at some point in the future, and intentionally design our systems to be robust in the face of disturbances caused by bad actors.

meggied90, to RedditMigration in Reddit is not a safe space

How utterly depressing.

Does the Fediverse have a similar feature, where communities/magazines can be private and only allow users to view/subscribe to them with mod approval?

I know this is possible with instances, but that seems impractical since the account would be defederated from the entire Fediverse to maintain privacy.

They are so unprofessional. They will surely have big loses from this story.

JWBananas, to RedditMigration in Reddit blocks /r/spezresign on mobile browser
@JWBananas@kbin.social avatar

That's the message they show when a sub doesn't have moderators (or possibly if the moderators have not been active).

muftiboy,

except the mod is active and posts regularly on r/spezresign. the sub was founded by u/StanIsBread, here are some of his recent posts on r/spezresign

https://old.reddit.com/r/spezresign/comments/14fl7qr/subreddits_forcefully_reopening/
https://old.reddit.com/r/spezresign/comments/14655kz/reddit_going_downhill/
https://old.reddit.com/r/spezresign/comments/148jvbk/subreddits_going_private/

the sub is 18 days old, are you joking about inactive mods or what

Gamers_Mate,

Interesting lets see how long till this sub gets banned. I am willing to bet Spez will not let this sub exist as long as he let a certain sub with bait in the name exist.

exohuman,
@exohuman@kbin.social avatar

I could see them removing the creator and moderators for that sub.

Reaffirming that it is time to leave reddit behind and move on. What kind of evil shitheads do this to breastfeeding mothers and their infants?

what kind of evil shithead

Spez, obviously.

autokludge,

Are you referring to jailbreak moderator spez?

Dark_Blade,
@Dark_Blade@lemmy.world avatar

r/jailbait, but yes

Xeelee,
@Xeelee@kbin.social avatar

You mean /r/jailbait? The subreddit /u/spez used to moderate? I bet he'd like that to be forgotten these days.

billiam0202, to RedditMigration in Reddit is not a safe space

At this point it seems likely that Reddit is so incompetent, they just ran a script to check if a subreddit was private and extort the mods if it was, without any check on how long the sub had been private.

pampoon,
@pampoon@lemmy.world avatar

That is 100% what they did.

Lifecoach5000,

This shit reminds me of offices demanding everyone come back in person even if you had remote approval before the pandemic.
