Fun fact: programs for gifted kids have historically been far more underfunded than programs for other exceptional students.

By the way, the euphemism of “exceptional children” pleases my autistic brain way more than any other word for Special Education students. It has all the compliment-sounding qualities of “Special Needs” but is even more literal than any previous euphemism. It literally means “kids that teachers need to make exceptions for”

Let’s be honest, most of us think we’re in the blue zone, when we are probably in the red zone

lolcatnip,

No, people in the red zone think they’re in the green zone.

alcasa,

Most likely most of us would be in the yellow zone

original_ish_name,

In order to bother with something like lemmy, you’re probably above average intelligence (specifically to do with computers)

MBM,

You can be good with computers but dumb everywhere else, plenty of people like that exist

Voli,

appel, to memes in Everything I don’t like is Socialist

Whenever someone calls something “socialist”, ask them to explain socialism to you and watch their argument fold like a wet blanket. They usually have no idea. In fact, many would love a healthy dose of Northern European socialism in their lives, as long as you call it “Owningthelibism” or something.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

AntiOutsideAktion,

Capitalism with social programs is better than without, but that’s not socialism. It’s just not neoliberalism.

masquenox,

Not socialism.

Milk_SDF_Possum,
@Milk_SDF_Possum@lemmy.sdf.org avatar

Concentration of power with those “social services”, making people pay higher taxes many times for unfair reasons. Socialism has all the power on the State with no or little room for individuals themselves to make their businesses and companies, companies that’ll thrive will be friends with the king and create a monopoly in that country. Putting everything in the hands of the State is a recipe of disaster.

christiansocialist,

China has tons of small and big businesses and it’s still socialist.

christiansocialist,

“Bu-bu-but they’re a bunch of [insert super racist remarks about Asian ppl]”

PreachHard,

When you say “no room to make business.” That’s where I think the fundamental disagreement is rooted. Socialism is inherently built on the idea that what you are building in a capitalist system is exploiting labour. The people you bring in should have ownership of the company too in a socialist system, not the state. What you’re describing is a communist dictatorship. State programs should be run by the state just as they are in most countries now. You certainly don’t want companies running your government.

masquenox,

Putting everything in the hands of the State is a recipe of disaster.

Tell me you don’t understand what the word socialism means without telling me you don’t understand what the word socialism means.

It’s fun to see comic strips from before everything became instantly referencable at the push of a button. Like what are these weird Mosquito-headed hornets? I choose to believe that the artist could not be arsed to look up pictures of hornets at the library or bookstore, so they filled in (or hallucinated :D) their knowledge gaps on hornet anatomy by making stuff up.

The things they do now are way more crazy than when I left some years ago. They’re a very dangerous organization. They thoroughly manipulate you. Not to mention that they’re bleeding money from legal problems mostly related to systemic defence and concealment of a whole lot rape, mostly children.

If anyone reading this is considering joining the JWs first look into these allegations. It’s a very real and serious problem.

That’s Fred. He is actually a real super nice guy. Wen through training with him. He tried to have the homophobic content changed to just vulgar, but no dice. He’d have to transfer over to level two, and well, they are nice guys, but kinda the short bus crew of the whole operation.

Tell him Dave from naked drunk guy crew four on level six says hello and his advice about the pills really did save my job and marriage.
