Awesome,.all of it!

Can we now also focus on stabilizing everything? For the past 5-10 years, my personal KDE experience ws either features disappearing (i still mourn my Desktop cube) or just random shit.not working for years. I got to the point where a few months ago I seriously started to consider cinnamon, what are you doing to me?

andruid,

That was the last couple releases tbh

OsrsNeedsF2P,

I’m actually getting this too. Worked fine on Brave

That makes sense, Chrome-based browsers generally don’t use OCSP, I’m guessing someone misconfigured their servers.

I’m pretty sure that most people won’t be able to tell the difference between 5 and 6.

Seems like minor changes to me.

I once did enjoy KDE but always hated the font, icons and everything in the UI is lines. Makes it hard to comprehend things quickly.

In the end I realised the Gnome-based UI is far better for legibility and comprehension. I’m on Linux Mint Debian Edition with Cinnamon and it’s great.

devfuuu, to linux in The last few weeks in KDE: It’s coming… it’s coming… it’s coming

I’m very excited for what’s to come. Good to know things are going well with the testing and bugs don’t seem too bad.

As features I’d like to see, I guess we still can’t configure different language layouts for different connected keyboards at the same time? I really would like to be able to have my usb connected one with english and the native laptop keyboard with portuguese. It’s annoying that I have to constantly switch when needed globally the layouts. At least multiple connected mouses seem to work fine.

penquin, to linux in This week in KDE: changing the wallpaper from within System Settings

I am trying to install kde neon in a VM to try plasma 6 and actually test and report bugs, too, and the installer launches into a completely transparent window and I can’t proceed from there. Tried to install opensuse krypton, it was taking so long to install I actually gave up and quit the install.

Pantherina,

In my experience too KDE Neon unstable is a total mess.

Maybe try the new Fedora Rawhide with KDE? There even is an immutable image now. I will try that on Baremetal in a few minutes, as in the VM scaling and all was a mess, but VMs also just dont cover regular use scenarios (dual monitors, energy saving, fingerprint sensor (I want to keep mine for the host lol), memory, actually working GPU (thanks AMD mobile bullshit CPUs)

penquin,

I honestly do have an extra laptop to test on. So I might just slap fedora kde on it or something.

Pantherina,

I just rebased from latest Kinoite to Plasma 6 and so far neat, polished, no bugs? Damn KDE Nightly was a total mess?

rpm-ostree rebase --reboot fedora:fedora/rawhide/x86_64/kinoite

Great so far! Not beta anymore at all.

penquin,

Sounds good. Thank you for that.

Wanted to find out since when a System Sound kcm exists, found out that LibreOffice is in some way connected to freedesktop.

Does anybody know if there will be more providers or the option to add your own for the Weather widget/app?

TheMadnessKing, to linux in This week in KDE: DMA fence deadlines and lots of bug-fixing

How is the current state of Plasma 6? Can I drive it on daily basis under Wayland and test it out? I dont have nvidia too.

Virual,

Plasma 6 is currently in beta, so it really isn’t meant to be used for anything other than testing. I have it installed on arch, and honestly it’s good enough for my use with wayland, but you will definitely will run into issues. I also use Nvidia, though, so I’d probably have more issues than you will.

Overall, I only recommend it right now if you can roll back or if it isn’t that big of a deal if your install breaks.

NamelessGO,
TheMadnessKing,

Thanks. After going through, I decided to stick with my current setup.

What about systemd-genie? No distro includes it by default

OsrsNeedsF2P,

What does that have to do with KDE? It seems to be for WSL which can’t run DEs

HDR stuff is great to see! Valve’s upstream work on Wayland HDR support is finally coming to everyone

phoenixz, to linux in This week in KDE: Wayland by default, de-framed Breeze, HDR games, rectangle screen recording

Any indication on if and when the desktop cube will return ?

Knusper,

Apparently, that will arrive with Plasma 6.

It says "Version Fixed In: 6.0” here: bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=438883
And the last comment in there, does also specify so.

Apparently, this is now part of kdeplasma-addons, so this might be in a separate package, which may not be pre-installed by your distro. I really don’t know, if it means anything, but Nate felt it worth mentioning here: pointieststick.com/…/these-past-2-weeks-in-kde-wa…

Maybe it’s just me, but I love KDE5 so much I’m just not looking forward to 6.

magikmw, to linux in This week in KDE: Plasma 6 Alpha approaches

Post says it’s ready as a daily driver. I want to help with bug reporting, is it good enough to replace current fedora plasma or should I wait for a beta?

Well, it’s pre-alpha so expect a lot of problems
