Yeah I’ve actually thought about this.

Like… did Q just re-create existence around him? Or did he pluck Prime Picards consciousness and dump it into the body of Beta Picard? I like to think it’s the latter with Beta Picard in the background just like “Wait… what? What’s happening?” and then Q and Picard fuck off leaving this poor dude to desperately rely on therapy for the next couple years.

FR, the biggest difference I saw in my life when I got medicated (in addition to being able to complete basic life functions in a reasonable timeframe) was that I would fill up and then drink a 1L water bottle every 2 hours.

9/10, would recommend medication and having urine that looks more like lemonade than maple syrup.

AndyLikesCandy, to risa in I'm not kidding when I say for the FIRST time I actually can grasp the size

I know we only ever see a handful of rooms, that’s fine, but with over 100 crew they always all have personal quarters that are probably the square footage of 3/4’ish containers.

150m in diameter is one way to think about it. But then it’s also 8 containers long, or 25 containers circumference at the largest point down to no more than a few in circumference at the bridge.

You know, that seems tiny, it’s like there’s no volume left for the hardware that needs to be between every room and all over the hull

It helps that containers are a standard size.

Container ships are fucking massive. The Enterprise only held like 1000 people which is only a small portion of a basketball arena.

Twice the time at half the power solves most microwave heating issues.

doctorn,
@doctorn@r.nf avatar

A misconception about microwaves is that they need around 1000W to actually do something, anything lower than 800 makes the waves completely ineffective. When you turn your microwave to 500W, what it actually does is lie to you while microwaving only half of the time instead by cycling on and off. You can usually hear this change in the sound it makes cause it will switch between the 1kW and the ventilator. 🙂

DeusHircus,

Pretty sure everyone knows that the power setting on the microwave just changes the duty cycle of the magnetron. I’ve never seen a microwave specify wattage when selecting power, usually 1-10 or 1-100, no lies involved. What it does is allows the heat more time to evenly distribute through your food while cooking with the same amount of energy. That super hot bowl and tepid soup won’t have as much of a difference when it takes twice as long to cook. Hot spots don’t get a chance to get as hot. Psychologically it’s easier too because let’s be honest, no one’s waiting 5 minutes after that timer goes off for the heat to settle

MimicJar, to starwarsmemes in I'm still angry about this. They ever give a reason?
@MimicJar@lemmy.world avatar

Bureaucracy.

The ceremony takes a few days to put together and due to a mishap the medal for Chewie doesn’t arrive. Obviously they can’t delay the giant ceremony but Chewie still officially receives a medal.

Being a rebellion and largely on the run Chewie’s medal is eventually lost in “the system”, sent from rebel base to rebel base. Eventually even Chewie forgets about it and when the New Republic is formed and the filing system updated it truly is lost to “the system”.

Eventually when the new rebellion, the Resistance, starts up they fall back to the older rebel filing system. Chewie then finally receives he medal, at the end of Rise of Skywalker.

One thing that came as a culture shock for me is that I'm used to driving like 4 hours to see relatives. And this is usually several times a year. Then I heard from some Britons that they have rarely visit their relatives who are only like a hour drive away. Really messed me up the first time.
