The article is confusing. Are they saying COVID causes long colds? In other words now that COVID is like the common cold when you get it, they are just saying you have mild long COVID I think?
The visibility of long-COVID has led people to reevaluate whether other viruses cause “long” syndromes. It looks like rhinovirus (aka “the common cold”) can, too.
There are other viruses that were already known to cause “long” symptoms, often due to damage caused to the nervous system by the virus or the immune response. Post-polio syndrome has been known for a long time, for example.

Does "reunited with their owners" mean these were lost animals whose owners were identified? How does the SPCA help with that and why were there hundreds?

Im assuming it's primarily through microchip tracking and just dogs getting out. Dog runs out the house, gets lost. If they don't have a chip or tags, the shelter has no real way of contacting the owner unless the owner sees a post about it/someone at the shelter sees something about the dog being lost. Lost pets are more frequent during holidays due to traveling, running out the door when letting family in, etc.
You have to renew your driver’s license every 10 years. That means in the worst case scenario, the image they’re using of you could be 10 years out of date.
Those images are also not detailed enough to be used for facial recognition. Sure, it could help narrow down the list of suspected people, but they’re crazy if they think they’d be able to pinpoint someone based on what they looked like 5-10 years prior.
I suspect these powers are being used for something else more sinister. Immigration, for example, to clamp down on people who have licenses and are delivery drivers, or taxi drivers for example.
It’s not the kind of search where they need to be very precise; certainly not pinpoint accuracy. t’s just another tool to narrow their searches that rely on other details.
And if you’re a fully grown adult, not undergoing radical facial reconstruction, it seems unlikely to be that the relative distances and orientations of your eyes, nose, and mouth are going to change very much. My driver’s license photo is at least a decade old and even though my face looks different on the surface due to age, changes in weight, and changes in hair color and length I’d bet my key features are still in relatively the same places.
Of course they could also be using this for more sinister purposes. No argument there.
Empty, useless, rhetoric, sounds like You’re trying to shame either those that donated or the receiver. There’s no good way to confirm it would (serve more purpose), but anyway - people donated to the cause that was set. There’s nothing that would prevent to create another fund raising for victims too.
The fact that you think I’m shaming anyone speaks volumes about how there’s things you need to fix about yourself.
I said nothing about the quality of character of those donating, or the man that received donations- only that maybe the actual victims could use the money more…
