stephywephy88, in Is it normal for a person to "feel" less as they get older?

Everything felt wondrous to me after I got out of an abusive marriage bruised but alive. It’s not that I feel more, but the realization that I am able to feel at all amplifies the intensity of my positive feelings. Do you feel like you’re trapped in a rut at all? Or maybe you’ve convinced yourself that all the best moments have already past? Sending positive vibes to you!

Anticorp, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

I can’t use Fusion 360 on Linux, so I dual boot windows. But that’s the only time I ever go back. I don’t even run a bootloader with options and you’d never know Windows is on my machine unless you interrupted the boot process and checked boot drives. Getting into Windows is a manual process on my system.

Scud, in Those who tried Linux and went back to Windows, what caused you to go back to Windows?

WSL2 and work. Firstly at work i’m forced to use Windows since all the dev toolchains and deployement Tools are unfortunately Windows only… And secondly since I have be able to work from home (at night or afterwards) I need Windows on my Box as well. Thirdly, other than that my private coding projects all died since I just wanna switch off once I’m done and game a little… So there Windows also wins out. And lastly since all my Servers run Linux if i need to write a Script and test it WSL did the Job so far.

Very unfortunate since i enjoy using Linux (love i3) but i cant be bothered at the moment :( Maybe the next dev job allows for a Linux Environment :)

carbotect, in what band/song are you kinda ashamed you listening to as a kid?

My taste in music mostly stayed the same since childhood. I just like more genres now.

I am really into EDM, old EDM songs from popular subgenres oftentimes feel “outdated” in a sense.

For non-EDM enjoyers, its all beeps and boops anyways tho.

ratboy,
@ratboy@lemmy.ml avatar

I’m curious what old songs you might be thinking of? I was a wannabe raver in middle school and an actual one at the end of highschool lol. I may know what’s up

carbotect,

It’s hard to remember song names, because most EDM tracks are non-lyrical.

For example in dubstep, most trends age poorly.

Skrillex- inspired stuff or “Zomboy - Terror Squad” copycats sound really oversaturated nowadays. Even “hip and cool” commercials made some bootleg versions of “Ruffneck Bass” and “Equinox” from Skrillex.

Also samples and sound design from many EDM tracks 10+ years ago feel really unoriginal from a modern listener’s perspective.

There are obviously also a lot of exeptions. Old stuff from “Tha Trickaz”, “Savant”, “Xilent” etc etc all still hold up imo.

ratboy,
@ratboy@lemmy.ml avatar

Lol aw man I’m definitely getting old; I remember when Skrillex came out and kinda ruined the genre tbh, it was so totally different when it first emerged, it actually sounded like dub. So I’m not familiar with any of those guys, they were after my time.

I think it probably depends on the listener but yeah, if I try to listen to most mid 80s hip hop, it’s so rudimentary that it’s really hard for me to a tuslly get into. Like Run DMC, or NWA. I can get into NWA but the novelty runs out quickly so I can only listen to them very rarely. But there are a lot of newer bands that I hear and say “I’ve already heard x y and z do this better” so it’s hard to get excited about new stuff too. If you are a really avid music listener I think it has to take something exceptional coming out to really get impressed by

UsernameLost, in what band/song are you kinda ashamed you listening to as a kid?

Mumford and Sons. Their first few albums were unique, and a nice change from everything else. Then they turned around and shit on everyone that liked their music before turning into Coldplay

quinnly,

Their first few albums were already just generic folk pop but if they were your first generic folk pop band I can see it being a pretty novel sound. And I’ll agree that their earlier stuff was better than their later stuff, but it still wasn’t very good or very original

LeylaaLovee,
@LeylaaLovee@lemmy.fmhy.ml avatar

You know something about them that fucks with me? They’re British, not American. It’s not that I care that much, but considering the image of the band is based in American country makes it feel odd lol.

borlax, in Any Nostr ppl here?
@borlax@lemmy.borlax.com avatar

The fact that a selling point is “censorship-resistant social media” makes me wonder how many right wing chuds are over there “just asking questions”.

JoeClu,
@JoeClu@lemmy.world avatar

Is “censorship-resistant social media” a misnomer for unmitigated hate speech? Is that the Implication you are making? Or do you know if it really is a magnet for right wingers?

It would be very disappointing for a potential superior technology to be stomped out prematurely due to a swelling of assumed extreme political polarization.

borlax,
@borlax@lemmy.borlax.com avatar

I don’t know anything about it, just found that to be a weird aspect to market on the home page.

The first thing I thought of is that many times complaining about censorship is a dog whistle by people who just want to spew hateful opinions.

Didn’t mean to imply anything about the protocol itself, I don’t have any tangible evidence of anything negative about the protocol or people maintaining it.

deadcatbounce,
@deadcatbounce@reddthat.com avatar

I don’t care for extremes of either persuasion, or the usdefaultusm of Reddit. Superior tech technology has absolutely no guarantee of success: Betamax was the better technically I’m told.

It’s Lemmy that’s getting all the airplay on Reddit, scarcely a mention of Nostr I’ve seen. Nostr Amethyst app on Android seems to work very snappily, but numbers may dictate.

It’s this messy [ find working instance - have instance declared verboten - repeat ] Lemmy cycle that’s really starting to annoy me. Had it happen three times so far. I’m going to put some serious effort into publicising Nostr once I’ve played with it, if only to even the fight.

JoeClu,
@JoeClu@lemmy.world avatar

I’m interested in hearing more about the Lemmy cycle thing that’s annoying you. If you’re willing, what happened? I joined lemmy.world and haven’t ventured anywhere else yet.

deadcatbounce, (edited )
@deadcatbounce@reddthat.com avatar

Sure. I was looking for a local instance that would be less usdefaultism, understanding that I would probably subscribe to general communities. 🤣😂

I couldn’t find anything on join-lemmy that was helpful but happened on a comment by sometime trying me to go to the fediverse site for helpful stuff. I found an instance lemmy.podycust.co.uk and tried to join that. I recall that it went reasonably and I entered my email address.

Shortly after I found I couldn’t log on. The page just gave the spinning-wait indicators. That instance was disappeared from join-lemmy and I had to go through the same process for another instance.

lemmy.tedomum.net was selected and I joined that. Shortly after that was declared verboten and removed from join-lemmy. I’m not picking these at random and with low user counts. I am directed.

Third time lucky. I found another one that’s accepting logon for three days in a row.

I do accept that Lemmy is Alpha and things change but the Devs are systematically removing email addresses and other sources of help from the join-Lemmy . Unironically they are stating that the first point of help is a sub on lemmy which is no fcuking use if you can’t log on and well used stable instances are being removed from the join-Lemmy listing because they are well used. Just look at the difflog on GitHub. People are trying to join these instances because they are going through the same pain that I am.

There’s no real world WhatsApp or Telegram etc group published for normal people. Most people don’t know matrix exists. I don’t like WhatsApp or Telegram but that’s the popular choice for groups. Asking for a published popular group resulted in me being told that we don’t have time to help people full stop. I’m not suggesting that the Devs are on a published group for a moment, but that we give a place for users to help themselves.

Meanwhile a whale is backing Nostr. And the apps work.

I reiterate that I understand Lemmy is Alpha but going out of your way to piss off the users and ‘not assisting’ any self help is like inviting Lennart Pottering to tea.

JoeClu,
@JoeClu@lemmy.world avatar

Ouch. That sounds like a pain in the arse. I joined lemmy world several days ago without issue. I joined due to the population size. I have encountered where lemmy.world has been down, slow, and hacked, in the few days I’ve been participating. So that’s not good and it lends credence to what you are experiencing.

I’ve been looking for a new instance myself due to the growing pains lemmy.world has experienced since the reddit exodus.

You are right, it makes no sense to not offer support outside of being logged into a lemmy instance. It reminds me of my internet ISP. They advertise if you need support, go to <some address.com>. Meanwhile I can’t even get onto the internet. Makes no sense.

Anyway, good luck to you. Hope to continue to see you around even if it’s on another instance.
