neilrodgers75, in What's a quote that has stuck with you for your whole life?

“Good things come to those who wait”. It has been true so many times in my life.

WeLoveCastingSpelz, in Do you think Technology makes us more lonely...?

Technology is but a tool, If someone prefers looking at their phone than dealing with you it’s a you ptoblem

crucifix_peen, in What genres of music do Lemmites enjoy?

Delicate Steve

Professor Caveman

The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets

LovelyA72, in What genres of music do Lemmites enjoy?
@LovelyA72@lemmy.ml avatar

Deep House. It’s basically distraction free version of House.

timeisart,

anything you recommend? looking for more artists like those on Naked Music Recordings (Blue Six, Miguel Migs, Lisa Shaw, Aya, etc.)

LovelyA72,
@LovelyA72@lemmy.ml avatar

ssm, in What password manager do you recommend?

openssl and a text file

tycho,

dsemy, in What's it like working night shift?

I fucking love night shifts. For the last two years I’ve worked exclusively night shifts (23:00-7:00 or 19:00-7:00).

Super unhealthy though - I often sleep only two or three hours before my shift, and I do stuff all day.

This works for me since I never really slept much (I would often stay awake till 3-4 in the morning after work).

With night shifts I just do the same but I get to work when there isn’t much work to do and do stuff I want to do during daytime.

Wahots, in What's something you'd change in men's fashion, given the chance?
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

I’ve seen women rocking shortalls, and want that to come to men’s fashion too. Everyone looks cute in them :)

sideone,
@sideone@lemmy.world avatar

What’s a shortall? Like shorts overalls?

Wahots,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Yup! Shorter versions of overalls for summer. They look really cute on everyone :)

Nobug404, in What's the point of buying new phones every years?

Your carries never gives it to you cheap. At best they sell you it at cost. More likely they sell it to you at MSRP. the cost is wrapped up in your monthly, and they hope people are too stupid or lazy to notice.

palantus,

Never say never. After buying my OnePlus 9 pro, my carrier transferred the money to me instead of from me. Realizing the mistake, they immediately transfered it back again, but that only resulted in a 0 and thus I never actually paid for the phone :)

In most other cases you are right though.

Tetra, in Is it normal for a person to "feel" less as they get older?
@Tetra@kbin.social avatar

On top of what everyone else said (I especially super agree with experiencing new things), I can recommend art, either experiencing it, or making it. Art is basically all about trying to capture or recapture a specific feeling, by heightening it.

Maybe the smell of roses doesn't move you much after all these years, but a well crafted poem, music, movie, or some video games (I guess Flower comes to mind for this particular example) can reignite some of that lost wonder. And if experiencing them isn't enough, you can always go after those feelings yourself, and make your own art, trying to bring back the sensations you miss the most. Heck, learning to cook an old dish a relative or friend used to make can evoke long forgotten feelings, "art" is a vague term.

I'm both getting older and suffering from really bad depression, and this sort of thing has been helping me cope with this loss of feelings.

Bread, in How much "data" do you personally have?

That’s how I started out too. You pick a few things here and there, next thing you know a few years later you build a server capable of storing half a petabyte of data. The important thing is to know when it starts becoming a problem. I am at 216 tb now, but I should be good for years to come.

insomniac, in Is it normal for a person to "feel" less as they get older?
@insomniac@sh.itjust.works avatar

I get exactly what you’re saying but I’m not sure I have a great answer for you. I think it’s all about dopamine. Smoking cannabis reconnects me with that childlike feeling. Also, having a kid really helped me. Seeing the world through her eyes as she experienced childhood is amazing. Before kid I felt like I couldn’t really enjoy anything like I could before without drugs. I’m not sure how much of that is depression and how much is just getting older.

arthur, in What is some good things to do with a new pc/laptop/computer?

Do a fresh isn’t all of the OS. If you use windows, run Chris Titus’ debloater. Personally I would choose W10 instead of W11.

little_hoarse, in Does anyone actually enjoy working out?
@little_hoarse@sh.itjust.works avatar

I used to hate lifting. Now I look at it like a meditation, and look forward to it (mostly) every day.

End0fLine, in Hey Lemmy, what are some good public domain books?
@End0fLine@startrek.website avatar

I’m loving the answers to this two year old question!

My suggestion would be 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It was a book that I could not put down.

TheRealKuni,

My suggestion would be 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. It was a book that I could not put down.

Well of course not. If you try it would just float up toward the surface.

Anders429, in Is there an efficient way to search for lemmy instances based on their rules?

I love how you didn’t even read the sidebar of this community and just posted whatever you wanted anyway.

kuroyousei,
@kuroyousei@sh.itjust.works avatar

You are the second person who has commented something similar. I’m not asking about the mechanics of the search mechanism, I’m asking for suggestions. Its pretty easy to understand the implication with the way I worded the question.
