Basically the community shows up when I search from worlds as over 1k subs but just 9 from vlemmy. I guess that is the number of local subs from each instance?
Yes, it just means that there are 9 people from vlemmy that have subbed to that community. This bit is a bit confusing, for example if nobody had subbed to it yet from vlemmy then it would show 0 subs.
A soul is at best a description of the electrical and quantum interactions that take place in our brain, a personified phenotype of the sum of these things occurring in our head (and to a degree our eyes, mouth, ears, and skin).
I don’t believe in the soul in the traditional sense as it implies that there is one version of me – is my soul my 9yo self, my 20-something alcoholic self, the self as of this moment, or my Alzheimer’s-ridden self when I die? If it’s supposed to be a “perfect” version of me when I pass, then it’s kind of funny, because my spirit is, in a sense, a version of me that I’ve never actually met and wouldn’t recognize.
There seems to be a fair bit of admins who just run the Lemmy Ansible installer expecting to magically have an instance, and having no idea what they’re getting themselves into.
I wonder how many small Lemmy instances exist right now that have SSH password auth (or god forbid root login of any kind) enabled.
The fact you’ve made it here onto the fediverse suggests you’re pretty tech savvy. Have you considered offering tech support services locally? There’s probably loads of older folk around who would appreciate someone who can sort out their laptop, set up their printer etc.
You could also try a specific subset of this if you wanted to optimise for reputation and cash - e.g. Get good at setting up mesh wifi systems like Amazon Eero and then sell your services locally as an installer?
explanation, since this one might be more confusing than most:
Traffic congestion does indeed waste gas. However, any place worth driving to is going to have congestion–driving without congestion is easy, fast, and comfortable, so people generally won’t take other options until roads become congested. Thus, congestion actually reduces gas usage overall, because it is only once areas become congested that people stop driving places.
Trying to avoid congestion, on the other hand, usually involves expanding roads, something which increases driving, and makes other forms of transportation less useful/comfortable, thus increasing gas usage overall.
Just installed it. It looks like Apple’s UI, which gives it a kind of uncanny valley on my Android phone. Will use alongside Liftoff until I like one better, thanks for mentioning it!
Update: I won’t be staying on Wefwef because it keeps causing Firefox Nightly to crash and not saving my spot when I switch apps, and I’m not willing to get the Firefox stable release again because the way it reloads pages every time you switch apps drives me mad.
Also, it seems to cache images so that you can open them immediately upon tapping, rather than having to wait for the image to load after your explicit tap for it to do so. I really liked this at first, but it comes at the cost of taking around eight full seconds to load everything, as compared to one or two seconds with Liftoff and Connect.
I do wish Liftoff and Connect had the compact view with image/link previews that Jerboa and Wefwef have, though.
After listening to you, I now use wefwef (on Chrome) almost exclusively because of the compact home view. There are no issues with slow initial loading time or glitching out upon switching apps. Thanks!!
Only some states offer free healthcare for people under certain income thresholds without other qualifications such as being disabled or pregnant. There has been progress with states finally accepting the Medicaid expansion, and there are often “low-income healthcare options” available, but A LOT of people are unfortunately still unable to get coverage because they’re too poor.
All states offer Medicaid below the income threshold. Those that have not accepted the expansion payments from the federal government have a much lower income cutoff than those that have accepted it.
