Recipe: “Start by putting x in the oven for 30 minutes. While that’s cooking, prepare the next part and cook that for 25 minutes so it’s all ready at the same time.”

Me, about to put the second part in the oven after preparing it for 20 minutes:

EatYouWell,

Yeah, many recipes are horribly inefficient. Once you get comfortable cooking, you can notice them and adjust accordingly.

Y’all should try Ingress. 😅 Doesn’t really have fog of war, but you do get to visit art in search of portals for portal-keys. 😜

It’s the company that made Pokemon Go’s more-serious first app that came out years before P-Go did, as one of the first of its kind, though it only got interest from the more niche communities. I played it until G+ got slaughtered, as it was the main base of communications and Ingress communities.

Pay to win

doctorn,
@doctorn@r.nf avatar

I haven’t really played it in a while, but last time I did, gameplay still prevented that. You were able to buy way too many of some things you are limited in using anyway, but things that would give you a boost in mass weren’t for sale. Only thing you can buy yourself out of is maybe 1/4th of the reasons to go outside, but you can’t really play without the other 3/4th, and I have never paid, nor been beaten by somebody that did…

Anyway, all that was at least 3 years ago, so I’m not vouching for any possible changes to the contrary right now…

But It would amaze me if they did make it pay to win now, though. Niantic was always very strict in fair gameplay when it came to Ingress…

drkt,

My entire city is owned by one guy and my math makes it either he’s been hoarding for a decade just to dunk on me or he bought his way through. He would literally, for weeks, undo any progress I made within hours until I just stopped bothering.

doctorn, (edited )
@doctorn@r.nf avatar

I can do that and like I said, I never paid nothing. I didn’t hoard, but as a longtime player you got stronger. So it’s not pay to win, it’s still play to win…

No offense, but your conclussion doesn’t fit your description. You’re angry you can’t win against someone that you say might have been hoarding stuff (or is maybe doing the work for getting it daily as I used to do…) I could literally bring down Level 8’s since I was Level 5, and they stood no chance if I had been scavanging with Ingress all day first and they didn’t, yet catch me after one of those as a second player and you might win easily until I restock… That’s gameplay, not paygame. 😅

And the fact any player on his own can only max build level 5 portals and you need 3 other people at level 8 at least to make a Level 8 portal kinda stops pay to play. On your own you stand no chance against a group… So if your entire city is just 1 guy, the portals can’t be over level 5, if they are he has help.

Either way, when you attack portals, you should go stand on the Resonators, not the center of them, and when placing resonators you need to be as far as your circle allows you to stand from the portal, so they spread further apart and aren’t as easily destroyed by someone bursting in 1 spot.

Ok, we made it so YouTube only fetches an enter URL of a video, and when you click on a video, that opens. Only YouTube can give you the actual video link as it is stored and associated in our own database, and you only get it when logged in with Google (so basically you need an account to watch videos but not to see the thumbnails).

Now, we’ll only allow Google account sing-ins from a trusted browser or trusted website. This is of course for your security. We will provide you a custom token if you ask to approve a browser, website or an app and we’ll take careful looks to see if it violates our policies or not. If we don’t detect a valid token provided by your browser, we will display an error message and won’t allow you to sing in. Firefox has to also implement this in order to stay relevant (most people need allowing Google logins). The policy bans all things like scam websites, some other things and things against TOSes including YouTube’s. Third-party apps blocking ads will be not permitted by YouTube now. We will reject any approve request done by things like Piped and Newpipe.

Have fun with your broken pipe. If they find a fix, we will break it again (:

This is the way. I found I was getting annoyed every time I would feel the buzz of a notification, almost to the point I was ready to throw my phone in a toilet. I ended up disabling notifications for everything but work related stuff, and even that I made sure only pings me during the work hours.

Only at 25 I have learned I am supposed to close the lid, no one ever said anything about that before in my life. Now I am always doing it.

soggy_kitty,

That probably means your parents didn’t put it down in the house you grew up in. You would have worked out it was always closed every time you walk in.

So you were never going to learn at home, you did well to work that out at 25

Tbf it’s not gonna fix anything, teens need a LOT of sleep and their rhythm stray to as far as 4-5AM, so even when starting at 9 they won’t get a lot of sleep

What in my opinion would work is reducing school times a bit and have morning and evening batches with different staffs and the student could choose which time they want to attend, the productivity would be much higher making the lower time period not a problem, tho i am pretty sure there might be some issues in this system remembers CGP grey’s rule

ares35,
@ares35@kbin.social avatar

one solution would be longer school years (doesn't have to be a 'year-round' calendar) with maybe an hour or hour-and-a-half less class time per day. but that costs more in terms of food service, transportation, building upkeep, and so forth; plus extra child care burden on parents when most families don't have a 'stay at home' parent these days.

I had someone ruin this for me so now it’s time to share the love.

If John Mclane had stayed in his lane and left the situation to play out nobody would have died and a corporation would have been robbed.

lseif,

but… corporations are people too 😥

EvilTwin,

I’m pretty sure the plan was to take the hostages to the roof, blow up the roof and escape in an ambulance.

Lots of people would have died if Mclane hadn’t intervened.

cynar,

Weren’t they planning on herding everyone to the roof and blowing it up?

The plan was to do that to cover their getaway. Herd the hostages up to the roof, nominally to stop snipers while they got in a helicopter. Then flow it all up. By the time they sorted the body parts and realized they weren’t there, they would be gone and safe by a different route.

This is also why getting the detonators back was so important. Without them, they couldn’t blow the roof.

LemmysMum,

Arguably the police would never have been alerted to the situation and the drastic measures would never have been required.

LordTrychon,

The FBI ultimately getting involved was always a part of Gruber’s plan. Couldn’t bypass the last lock on the safe without them cutting the power.

LemmysMum,

Ooh. Forgot about that. Seems I’m due a rewatch of everyone’s favourite Christmas movie.

LordTrychon,

Me too, because after I posted that, I also remembered his monologue about how if you steal $100M in bearer bonds they will find you unless they think you are dead.

So yeah, I don’t remember if it was discussed but I think McClane just sped up the timetable for getting the authorities involved. They definitely tried to keep it quiet at first though.

But also, Mr Takagi was murdered before John had done anything, IIRC.

funkless_eck,

it’s crazy this movie is so well constructed considering each scene was written the day before filming

I never buy Driscoll fruit (particularly strawberries and blueberries) for this very reason. When I used to work at a grocery store, half of the time the Driscoll fruits would be rotten already upon arrival to the store!

There are plenty of self-picking strawberry farms around here anyway. I can guarantee I have the freshest strawberries if I pick them myself.

quicksand,

Yep there’s so many moldy ones already. I took pride in my work and made sure not to put them out for sale, but cannot say the same about some of my coworkers
