sqgl, in Dozens of cancer patients could die as Gaza’s main cancer treatment hospital forced to stop most activities over fuel shortage, UN says

Hamas is maintaining a stockpile of more than 200,000 gallons of fuel for the rockets it fires into Israel and the generators that provide clean air and electricity to its network of underground tunnels, according to U.S. officials, current and former Israeli officials and academics.

nbcnews.com/…/hamas-hoarding-vast-amounts-fuel-ga…

Israel released photos of Hamas fuel stores however I don’t understand how they can know if there is anything in them.

Maybe night time infrared imagery indicates that full ones retain heat? (And maybe water would retain it differently?). But even if we presume that is possible, why don’t IDF just bomb them if they are so sure it is Hamas fuel?

shasta, in Don’t fall into the trap of ‘picking sides’ over Gaza: Hamas’s attacks were unconscionable, razing Gaza to the ground would be abhorrent. In both cases, basic humanity is at stake --- [Opinion]

Aside from brainwashing them all into forgetting about their religions, what other solution is there?

Other than completely eradicate one side off the face of the earth, I guess nothing.

Israel and Palestine (+Muslim world) hate each others.

Wahots,
@Wahots@pawb.social avatar

Forever war. Back in the day, the stronger side would just kill everyone in a march to the sea, salt the earth, and nothing would grow there for 300 years until humans finally scraped the dirt and made a small community again. It’s been happening over every religious war, every empire, and every tribe for all time.

Now, we don’t do that. But that means bad blood and prolonged conflict essentially forever, in a long simmering he said/she said involving beheadings and rockets. Best thing we can hope for is either a Korea situation, or some sort of “we’ll make this area into a national park where everyone can visit”, but neither side wants to live anywhere else, and hell will freeze over before all the Palestinians or Israelis are welcomed into the neighboring countries with open arms, lol.

My last bit of hope died when I learned that Hamas executed one of their generals on the rumor that he might have had sex with a guy. The fact that they stripped someone of their 1,000 person command, whipped him, forced him to not sleep, and then shot him three times over something so trivial is a really, reallllly bad sign for any hint of a two state solution. Or worse, cohabitation in a host country. They hate each other to an extreme I didn’t think was possible.

zerfuffle,

Religious conflict has only taken hold in the Middle East because SOME PEOPLE overthrew all of the (more) secular left-wing governments and replaced them with right-wing theocratic regimes.

This seems like such a no brainier but the US always says no.

Yeah, this barely even qualifies as news since they've been doing it for 60 years.

What is the reason for the US still doing an embargo? Hasn’t it been like 60 years or whatever?

jarfil, in Will Israel shut down Al Jazeera?

For all the obvious propaganda on Al Jazeera, they’ve been surprisingly “fair” in their reporting, both in their choice of guest speakers (although they might cut some mid sentence), and in the footage they release, that for a keen observer sometimes contradicts the propaganda.

It’s one of the best “complementary sources” of information about the conflict right now.

Compare it with RT, which is so state controlled, that it has to use exaggeration “ad absurdum” to convey even a hint of dissent (an interesting exercise for the observer to spot out, but quickly tiring).

Omega_Haxors,

You go to click the icon to make the picture bigger and it takes you to a random website instead.

bingbong,

I thought that was normal? The thumbnail shown is just a link to the website unless you directly upload the photo

I’ve not had that issue, but I’m on Jerboa app.

Segab,

I’m on Jerboa too and tapping the article’s picture opens the website instead of expanding the thumbnail. Not ideal UX.

If an asteroid fell from space onto Tel Aviv, I’d be on the asteroids side. It’s not about ideology, it’s about removing a fascist ethnostate from the world.

Titan, in Will Israel shut down Al Jazeera?

Didn’t they straight up missile strike one of their one time?

bingbong,

They’ve murdered aljazeera journalists and other journalistic organizations on multiple occasions. Including directly assassinating Shireen Abu akleh, bombing the family of the Gaza chief correspondent, and bombing the AP headquarters in a previous conflict.

“They take revenge on us in our children?” he said, kneeling over his son’s bloodied body, still wearing his protective press vest from that day’s work.

Bombing AP headquarters - 2021

Every journalist covering the conflict within Gaza and Lebanon is risking their own lives and that of their family members so we can know what’s going on. In my opinion, they’re not getting the respect they deserve from the international community.

Titan,

Israel and all their fash supporters lost my respect long ago.

I had a tiny bit of hope that Biden would somehow turn around the US after finally withdrawing from Afghanistan, but I see now that the US, including Biden, is still the bloodthirsty war criminals they’ve always been.

israeli government and hamas both want never-ending war anyways. i never understood how anyone could think hamas is one valid side in this.

the goal should always be complete non-violence.

DeForrest_McCoy, (edited ) in Why Is Pakistan Expelling 1.7 Million Afghans?

I wonder how many of those are Afghans that are fleeing the Taliban, versus how many are Taliban. Pakistan has every right, and has good reason to maintain their own sovereignty and be suspicious of the Taliban trying to expand into their territory.

“The images of bodies strewn on the street outside the hospital are harrowing”

Mr. Guterres added that for nearly one month, civilians in Gaza, including children and women, have been besieged, denied aid, killed, and bombed out of their homes.

This is God’s world!

All hail the devil for peace; for lucifer knew this is what he was working against. People are killing for false Gods. And then they turned “heaven” against him for being the voice of honest reason.

They built their death armies to fight for the insecurity of men. The men and woman that truly had no faith in the universal “God”. So their fear led to murder, war, and a controlled enslavement. Forever driving true peace, honorable, and honest living out of attainability. If they couldn’t know and find their faith in the one universal “God” of nature and cosmos, then none would be free for the rest of eternity.

…Or something I just made that up but it seems true.
