Mh, that sounds less bad that I thought it would be judging from the headline.

It’s basically Lineage with MicroG and a bunch of preinstalled apps (like one of the many Linux distros based on Ubuntu ^__^).

I think I’d still go for Lineage and install MicroG myself if I have the option, though.

And that name … it’s just so bad …

I feel like Amazon would be easier than MS and Google, wouldn’t it?

NonDollarCurrency,

Yep, after you realize the majority of the stuff you can buy of Amazon is mass produced trash with zero quality. It was easy to remove.

    U did not readed it well. As firefox on android do not have sandboxing and segregation things It cant give individual websites permissions like js cookie etc. Firefox due to same reason cannot tell about WHICH SITE IS SAVING WHAT DATA ON MY DEVICE.I need to know that info so I am asking for any solution but as per what I know there are no solutions

    Discontinued

    itsaj26744,
    @itsaj26744@programming.dev avatar

    Thanks, will try

    Pantherina,

    This makes no sense. Firefox with noscript and “forgetmenot” can selectively allow Javascript per domain, and to save cookies.

    This cookie quick manager is probably an extension you want.

    addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/…/Fenix-Addons/

    This is a custom addon collection, I will add cookie quick manager if its missing

    itsaj26744,
    @itsaj26744@programming.dev avatar

    Thanks this is exact thing I was looking for. A bit more explanation

    Pantherina,

    Use noscript and ublock to control what gets to your browser and what gets executed there. Noscript is so underrated, its literally the best way to remove tracking. All these superficial blockers cant reach manual opt-in for javascript, selected by origin.

    Forgetmenot replaces firefox desktop functionality, but does even more.

    itsaj26744,
    @itsaj26744@programming.dev avatar

    Out of context but do u use ff sync or not?

    Pantherina,

    Yes its great. Biggest reason why Chromium is not an option, apart from UserChrome.css, user.js, many addons and an addon store not by google not requiring an account

    WindowsEnjoyer,

    cant give individual websites permissions like js cookie etc.

    Don’t you think there is a reason why none of browsers provide this feature? Do you seriously want to open a website and be greeted with 30 pop ups asking “do you want to allow javascript on api.example.com website?”. Then instantly “do you want to allow loading static images/media on api.example.com website?”. Point is - it’s not how web works.

    WHICH SITE IS SAVING WHAT DATA ON MY DEVICE

    Imagine in your perfect world you get a pop up saying “Firefox has detected that example.com has saved 2 cookies on your device and they consume 43 bytes of your storage space. Do you want to delete them?”. Again, even if it saves cached data (static images) - why would you care? Firefox has addons that can help you to get rid of tracking cookies.

    Please learn on how internet works. There is no such thing as “website”, especially in your context. Technically, your requested features could be possible to implement, but that would break like 100℅ of websites. And what you are probably looking for is something like Postman, but for Android. 🙆

    Jajcus,

    But all this is available in desktop Firefox. Partially built-in, partially via add-ons. The mobile version is very limited.

    Pantherina,

    Noscript does exactly that. Poorly there is no exception to allow x origin only on y domain. But yeah, its supported very well

    itsaj26744,
    @itsaj26744@programming.dev avatar

    *Don’t you think there is a reason why none of browsers provide this feature?*Cromite does provide it I am writing this reply from it and only some website have js enabled like lemmy instance I use,masto etc. Rest open without it and if something breaks I change settings for it. But I dont hate js, its fine and I was just explaining how I want things to happen. *Firefox has detected that example.com has saved 2 cookies … * I was not saying that but as in chromium or in ff desktop u can check which site have saved what data in settings I just want something like that (Nobody wants that much interupping popups) *that would break like 100℅ of websites.*Chrome does it and everything works

As I was loggined on piped.video but there were no cookie showing in quick cookie manager I also used cookie auto delete and piped data was not deleted. I dont have technical details but in an addon (Name was probably something like forget forever) which claim to delete all site data. Imagine you have lots of toys, like your favorite games and cool apps on your tablet or phone. If you had to update them manually, it’s like having to go to each toy, take it apart, fix anything that’s broken, and then put it back together every time there’s a new version or improvement.

    Now, think about having a special toy store for your toys. When you go to the store, they already know about any new cool features or fixes for your toys. All you have to do is ask the store to update your toys, and they make sure all your toys get the latest and greatest stuff without you having to do anything.

    So, having a store for apps is like having a magical place where all your toys can be fixed and improved automatically, without you having to do the hard work of updating each one by yourself. It saves you time and makes sure your toys are always the best they can be!

    Catsrules,

    Norgur, in Help me choose my mobile browser

    I think you might try to bite off more than you can chew here. You keep insisting that you want to somehow see the data that's saved on your device. Why exactly do you want to inspect the local cache of those sites? What do you expect the benefit to be? And what's more: what do you expect such a local cache to look like?

    itsaj26744,
    @itsaj26744@programming.dev avatar

    I just want to know which site I am logged in and to remove those data in order to logout

    Like on desktop I remove all data from settings of firefox from sites I am not using. Hope I a clear to you

    Btw I want to have clear look that data just as on desktop but as addons will provide that data I think It is going to look bad But thats okay

    Norgur,

    Yeah, okay. So: Clearing Browser cache is a common feature in any webbrowser (even Chrome, and if Chrome has it, everyone has)

    Regarding insights into the local cache: Are you technically versed enough to understand what you are seeing? If not, what good would looking at the cache do to you? I mean, whatever is in that cache is no indication about your privacy at all. As @minitycactus found out, Wikipedia logs your last visit. Do they spy on you? Very probably not. Besides, whatever they put into local cache is not something they have on their servers,

    I wouldn't put too much energy into a search for that specific feature.

    Most companies I’ve sent data deletion request just do it, but when they start to argue I just hit them with most ridiculous bullshit while acting like the most privileged bitch until they do it my way.

    Try saying no, see what happens.
    Fearmongering, gaslighting, lawful threats, technical jargon and the word ‘rape’ are your friend.

    Just recently when requesting GDPR data deletion from UK-based company they also wanted to confirm my identity, hell they will.

    I hit them with the fact that a person controlling the e-mail address can use their ‘Forgot password’ feature to take control over the account and access my sensitive data they’re in possession of or steal my identity using their own services. I also not so kindly suggested that I’ll report them so their security practices are investigated for the safety of their customers.

    …they deleted the data without any further questions.

    PS. Not sure about UK laws, but for GDPR: Always request confirmation of the deletion and the detailed steps they’ve taken to ensuring your data has been properly erased. They’re obligated to tell you that upon request.

    AdvicePleaseThankyou,

    I hit them with the fact that a person controlling the e-mail address can use their ‘Forgot password’ feature to take control over the account and access my sensitive data they’re in possession of or steal my identity using their own services.

    this was their excuse to why they won't delete my info without proof of ID.
    I told them no, I told them that if my bank or phone provider or online grocer who all have much more important and sensitive info, namely my payment/bank details, can verify me without extra documentation, so can they, they still said no.

    So I've filled a complaint with the ICO, there's fuck all else I can do unfortunately..

    I’m not sure if Netflix will work on Lineage os but it might be worth a look.

    gomp,

    That’s a great tip! I didn’t know lineage supported Android TV on SBCs

    As for Netflix on Lineage: it does work (at least w/ microg - I just tried on my phone), but you won’t find the app in aurora store so you’ll have to source it on apkmirror or the like.

    KrapKake,

    Not sure why Netflix wouldn’t be on the Aurora store. Anyway, I did use android TV on an OdroidXU4 for a few months. It worked well with an air mouse and made it work like a regular android TV. Only issue I had with it sometimes was getting it to wake up after being asleep for some time, but that issue could have been ROM+odroid (or air mouse) specific.

    TheSun,

    When I still had Netflix I was only able to get 720p streams on lineageOS because of netflix’s DRM checks (same with on a web browser)… does your method allow 1080p or even 4k streams or is it still the same deal?

    gomp,

    Wow: they also go to great lengths to piss off their paying customers.

    Anyway, I have no idea if it’s 1080p or not: I can say it looks ok on my phone’s screen, but IDK how to check what the video resolution is

    cypherpunks, in Signal Facing Collapse After CIA Cuts Funding
    @cypherpunks@lemmy.ml avatar

    I have mixed feelings about this article. It gets some stuff right, but also some stuff wrong and it misses some important details.

    • I don’t think Signal has actually received money from OTF (Radio Free Asia) since 2015 or so; if it needed any today it would likely get it from one of the less transparent US government internet freedom funding vehicles. There is no indication they are “facing collapse” beyond a blog post talking about their expenses and soliciting donations.
    • This article mentions “over a billion” people repeatedly, but doesn’t explain that number is actually referring to WhatsApp (which uses the encryption protocol developed by Signal). Signal says they have 40 million active users.
    • It doesn’t mention that Brian Acton (billionaire WhatsApp founder) gave them a $50M interest-free loan when he co-founded the Signal Foundation with Moxie in 2018, and became its “executive chairman” or whatever. That “loan” had increased to over $100M by the end of 2018, and is presumably much larger today.
    • It doesn’t mention that Signal Foundation president Meredith Whittaker worked at Google for over a decade, and co-founded a department there that worked alongside OTF on various internet freedom projects (and was later on the OTF advisory board herself)
    • it doesn’t mention the salient properties of Signal which actually make it particularly beneficial to US interests (keeping the communications of privacy-desiring people associated with their phone numbers while concentrating their metadata on Amazon servers)
