Oha, in What do you use for cloud storage and why?

Nextcloud on my own hardware

ninjan, in What do you use for cloud storage and why?

I run Dropbox, since they’re only in cloud storage they can’t really run around and sell data, if found out there would be no reason to stay for their customers. Unlike say Google and Microsoft.

zoontechnicon,

You run dropbox? Impressive.

    …yet.

Vexz, in German court declares “Do Not Track” to be legally binding

The title is misleading. The article only talks about LinkedIn.

    DarkThoughts,

    It's called legal precedence.

    Fucking LOL

smeg, in Wrf is wrong with UK?

What’s wrong is that the Tory government has been in power for over a decade and thinks they can get away with increasingly authoritarian legislation like this

    Anticorp,

Not “thinks”, they are getting away with it.

mojo, in How viable is total online passivity?

That’s more of a lifestyle. You do you. You can already avoid that by acting smart, but this is another way.

backhdlp, in Privacy friendly Ubuntu antivirus ?
    @backhdlp@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

You’re pretty save without an Antivirus on Linux (we’re just 3%, not worth it for hackers), but if you need to check files, VirusTotal is your friend.

demystify, in Using Facebook/Meta Messenger on Android

If you end up taking the browser route, take a look at WebApps

    Codilingus,

New app I didn’t even know I wanted.

Redoomed, in Privacy friendly authenticator ?

2FAS which seems recommended for data privacy.

    By whom?

There is a discussion in the Privacy Guides forum on 2FAS that you might want to read.

Also, you don’t specify which platform you’re using. As @I_Am_Jacks_____ mentioned, Aegis for Android is great. For iOS, the pull request to include ente Auth in the Privacy Guides recommendation page for authenticator apps is already merged. It will reflect on the live website once the Privacy Guides team decides to release v3.17 of the site.

stepanzak, in It seems Gen Z is just fine with parents knowing where they are all the time

My parents could try to convince me to download shit like this.

    cheese_greater,

To be a fly on the wall for tha—whoops 👻

    stepanzak,

Sorry, English isn’t my first language and I’m not entirely sure what do you mean by that.

    cheese_greater,

So fly-on-the-wall refers to someone in the room who silently observes what is happening and said between whoever else is in the room—usually covertly so they are hidden and unnoticed.

So when I expressed the humorous wish to be there to watch your convo with the parents, I’m ironically ignoring the fact this entire thread is about spying and intrusive/unwanted surveillance.

    Hope that helps!

    stepanzak,

I get it now. Thanks for the explanation!

WarmSoda, in Everybody is supporting Firefox, but no one wants to use it. Because it is destroying itself.

While your critique is well written and extensive, I do not agree with point 6.

wildginger, in Everybody is supporting Firefox, but no one wants to use it. Because it is destroying itself.

Why would no one use it? I havent noticed any problems, or heard anyone complaining about firefox.

SkybreakerEngineer, in What is your favorite cybersecurity tool and why?

My favorite cybersecurity tool is the clue-by-four. I apply it directly to Layer 8 problems.

    Enkrod,

I see you know how to deal with ID-10t errors.
