I’d have to have taken it back at 37 to go back to a point where my body wasn’t broken, and I’m trying to decide if the prospect of being able to stand without pain is worth being a teenager again…

Yellow Ledbetter doesn’t count. It’s mumbled in recordings because the lyrics change over time to adapt to whatever conflict we’re currently wasting life on.

Been doing that for a few years now. Pretty soon all those hobbies just become more of the same background noise. I have nothing more to show for life, but I do have a lot of expensive clutter and knowledge that no one wants me to share.

Further evidence that the world ended in 2012, and its just a slower process than John Cusack movies led us to believe.

18+ What's your favorite episode of MST3k? (lemmy.world)

I remember one day hearing my father downstairs laughing his ass off. Went down to see what was so funny to find he had just discovered Mystery Science Theater 3000, and was losing it watching The Giant Gila Monster. I sat down to watch. I didn’t really get it then, but I’ve been a fan ever since.

I use the movie to introduce people to the show. It sets up the whole universe without tons of in-jokes that newbies won’t understand. And “This Island Earth” is a weird combo of being a decent enough movie while still being infinitely mockable.

This is one of the harder episodes to find. Tjardus Greidanus lives up to the name he’s given durning the opening credits and doesn’t allow Shoutcast to have a license for the movie and will frequently go copyright strike anyone that puts the episode up online.

With that feature I could hide read posts, which would be lovely.

Thank you. I first typed “pumping” and only fixed half the typo before I hit post.

What's your favorite compilation album?

I’ve been really enjoying the Red Hot Organization’s “No Alternative” and “Dark was the Night” recently, both because they raised a lot of money for AIDS research and because they do a great job of capturing the 90s alternative sound and 00s indie sound respectively, and it’s got me thinking how much I love...

The non-soundtrack compilation that first comes to mind is The Duran Duran Tribute Album. It’s all covers of Duran Duran songs and, because it was released in the late 90s, there’s more than its fair share of ska.

There are a lot of great tracks. My highlights are Goldfinger’s version of Rio and The Wesley Willis Fiasco’s cover of Girls on Film.

This album made me realize that Duran Duran was about 20bpm away from being one of my favorite bands.

No, I gave up on linking via Piped. At this point I figure people willing to go to the trouble of using alternative frontends already have a favorite (that’s probably not piped) and the Privacy Redirect extension and are good to just get the yt link.

Oxygen Not Included. - !oxygennotincluded

Just started a new colony yesterday because an update was released with new tools and content. The colony I was playing up until that point was almost 3000 cycles old.

“Subscribed - Hot” is my normal and then once or twice a day I “All - Top 12 Hours” (or Top Day if I haven’t checked in a while).

I’ve got enough subscribed communities that Hot separates most of the chaff and still has a handful of new threads every hour. Then All - Top 12 hours show’s me the day’s best memes.

Gamers who have gamed for a long time

do you find it difficult to get into games? I’ve got Epic Games and Steam Games libraries chock-full of classic top-tier games along with many other newer games like Stray or 2077, and a bunch of indie titles. I just can’t be bothered to download and install them, much less try to get into the characters and storylines. Used...

My taste in games has changed a lot over the years - I think to help accommodate adult life. As my time has gotten more spoken for I look for games that can quickly be picked up and put down. And as I’ve become more bitter and misanthropic, I’ve largely given up on multiplayer (except Tertis 99!). Basically things I can play when I’ve got any amount of downtime and I don’t need to follow a story line, or disappoint other people, or watch cut scenes, or even have my volume up.

I’m really into colony sim / base building / and automation types games now. Factorio, Dyson Sphere Program, and if I go more than 3 days without playing Oxygen Not Included I start to get the shakes. I also like low key survival games like Don’t Starve, Astroneer, and No Man’s Sky.

I’ve been playing (and enjoying) BG3 but I don’t have enough time to get immersed so I’m still in Act 2 on my first play through.

All the French that’s embedded in it. Stupid Normans making it sound weird if I go to a restaurant and order pig.

Actually, I find the french and double dose of viking influence quite fascinating. English etymology is a wild ride!

I wore a tie to my first interview as a programmer. Worked there for 15 years and I got made ribbed for wearing a tie (that one time) for 15 years.
