The King and his men stole the queen from her bed And bound her in her bones The seas be ours and by the powers Where we will, we’ll roam

Yo, ho, haul together Hoist the colors high Heave-ho, thieves and beggars Never shall we die

whatever resolution I went out of my way to download.

Addon Radarr, Sonarr, and Ombi and you won’t even have to do that.

Users make requests via Ombi, those get sent to Radarr/Sonarr to search for and download. Most stuff is ready to watch ~15min after requesting, with no interaction from the servers admin needed. (optionally, requests can require approval before downloading, that’s disabled for the users I trust)

I did the manual way for years as well.

One of the issues these solve is the shear capacity to look through thousands of results from dozens of indexers all at once to choose the best match, in the sense of actually being what you wanted to watch, being in the quality you were looking for, and being readily available to download (has many seeds/is available on usenet, was recently uploaded, etc). As humans, we can only process so much before we just say ‘fuck it’ and pick something.

The other is keeping your library(s) up to date. Often when I searched for something, maybe recently released, maybe older but just uncommon; I can’t find a copy at all, the ones I do find aren’t downloading (no seeds), or maybe they’re just in lower quality than I’d have liked.

The arr stack will monitor each piece of media in your library that you tell them too; they will then ingest the rss feeds from your indexers, as well as perform occasional searches directly, looking for new uploads that match media you are looking for. If you don’t already have a copy, or the newly found one is better than what you already have, it’ll automatically download it and replace the older copy if it does indeed turn out to be better once acquired and verified.

This is fantastic for monitoring shows that are actively airing new episodes, or adding movies/shows that haven’t actually released yet, to be grabbed automatically once available. You can also choose whether it allows cam-rips/telesyncs or if it should wait for a digital release (ie wait till its out of theaters). There’s quite a lot of control over quality settings and what should/should not be accepted. (there’s also recycling bin settings for keeping things they delete until you manually permanently delete them)

Genuinely a life changing experience. Ombi and its request interface is just a cherry on top :)

It’s said in the thread you’ve linked that they have already been removed from the blocklist.

Darkassassin07,
@Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca avatar

Yup. Open that link, ‘find in page’, search for any of the domains listed on that original post and none are found.

They’ve been removed from the list.

One that was missed I guess. I didn’t take the time to search every single one.

As the rest have been removed, I can only assume their intention was to remove them.

Try speaking with the list maintainer about it instead of a random lemmy post they have no idea about…

I wonder how fast they re-grow.

That could get out of hand in a hurry, if he just stood there taking it…

Youtube revanced lets you select a prefered quality setting for wifi and a separate one for mobile data. It will force the quality into that setting or the nearest one to it if it’s not available in as high a quality.

This alongside adblock, sponsor block, and lots of customizable UI improvements.

Darkassassin07,
@Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca avatar

It won’t track watch status across different platforms/devices though. Revanced is significantly easier to setup and use.

Darkassassin07,
@Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca avatar

I’ve been using it for years; just download and install the apk from the website like any other side-loaded app. Yes it modifies the original youtube app, replacing it. I’ve never had an issue with the main app updating and breaking anything. Updates to revanced have to be applied manually the same way as the original install, but I’ve been super lazy and gone several years at a time without updating at all and I’ve never had an issue.

I used to run the original vanced app the same way; rarely if ever updating. It just hasn’t been necessary. Hell, the only reason I’m not still using original vanced app is because the device it was installed on has a broken screen.

Revanced is essentially the same app as the original youtube app with all premium functionality; but with adblock, sponsor block, and a huge host of toggles to show/hide almost every part of the UI or modify the apps behaviour (things like fixed quality settings instead of just ‘auto’ or a default playback speed).

I just had to go check and see, but yes the app still receives google play updates. My YouTube app last updated 5 days ago according to google play. It’s listed as ‘installed by X-Plore’ (the file manager/browser app I use and installed the apk from) in Androids app manager though, instead of being listed as installed by google play.

I’ve just never received an update that’s broken the app, or it’s hacked functionality. I download and install updated vanced apks when I happen to feel like it, which is very very few and far between.

Then don’t turn them off. Revanced lets you choose.

Darkassassin07,
@Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca avatar

Revanced usually hides the big central ‘+’ upload button by default. Unless OP explicitly re-enabled it, they are using the standard app.

Darkassassin07,
@Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca avatar

Why the hell would you connect that to a network?

A smart tv is primarily a surveillance device that also happens to display video.

Darkassassin07,
@Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca avatar

The other issue for me is ‘desktop site’. Firefox doesn’t remember your choice long term or short term. Every time I leave the app for more than 10 seconds it refreshes the page and resets that setting.

Chrome will remember that setting even across new tabs. It’s important to me because I have half a dozen self-hosted services I manage mostly from mobile and I find them all easier to use with that on. I use desktop sites from mobile more than any other webpages on any platform.

or feeling a work.

Lmao.

Mind posting a screenshot?

I can view opensubtitles.org click on a random title, click download, and a .zip containing an .nfo and .srt downloads no issue.

Presumably that’s the old method; there’s also a ‘download (beta)’ button. It puts up a 20sec timer, then lets me click download and lists how much of my quota (1 of 10, not signed in) I’ve used.

Supposed to remain free, just rate limited to 10/day.

Darkassassin07,
@Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca avatar

To an extent, but it’s only really relevant to developers. End users don’t see or interact with this at all and aren’t required to provide further info.

For 99% of people, this change makes very little, if any, difference. The way it’s been worded makes it seem like no one gets to use opensubtitles anymore unless they start shelling out cash.

Darkassassin07,
@Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca avatar

No.

A) old API doesn’t shutdown till end of year.

B) new API is 5 free downloads/day. 10 if you create a free account. More if you buy VIP.

Darkassassin07,
@Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca avatar

In the era of VPN, many users share the same IP too. You can reach the limit before downloading anything.

Then create a free account and it’s no longer limited by ip and you get double the anonymous limit.
