Eldritch,

Anything by kælan mikla out of Iceland is good. Definitely Draumaudis/dream dance

Aural Vampire from Japan is a lot of fun too. Hard to pick just one. But kerguelen vortex is a good starting point.

Eldritch,

It’s not even a new civil war. The last civil war only ended technically. In reality it went cold and has still been being waged all this time. It turned from a war of the rural South against the industrialised north. To a war on the industrialized from the rural.

Eldritch,

Bad idea. See the taxi coming right at the photographer. He’d have gotten run over if he didn’t see it.

Eldritch,

It’s easier to think everyone is out to get you. Than that you are just an insignificant self sabotaging fuck up. Not even on the radar of the elder gods

Eldritch,

Nah. Just load them all up on the same day, same time, and just detonate. Save on fuel and greenhouse gases.

Eldritch,

It might be worth something for the open source community to consider open funding for a group that would help devs to do just that. It wouldn’t help everyone. But it might help enough to make an impact for everyone.

Eldritch,

Exactly. What are contributors? If not, also users?

Eldritch,

Trump’s stupidity is his saving grace. People think he’s the worst president we may have ever had. But people also fail to recognize the fact that Trump would never have gotten anything done, if not for Republican assistance. Trump is a clownish symptom. Not the problem. Republicans are the problem. And they have been ever since. FDR cut a deal with fascist Republicans back in the 1930s.

Eldritch,

There are no communist countries. Only Communist countries. Communism is an authoritarian state economic system that is nominally left leaning. Whereas communism is largely against states and state power, and very libertarian in the original sense.

So the answer to your question is that technically all communist countries are free. You just don’t know the difference.

Eldritch,

No, the actual problem is that you aren’t learning. Nor are you trying to. I literally just explained to you that there is a difference between Communism and communism. And what that difference was. Your only response. Sadly to cling to the same propaganda canard.

There are no communist countries. Therefore, technically all of them are free and technically all of them are not free. Because they don’t exist. Communist countries on the other hand are socially very unfree.

I truly hope you are not a programmer despite posting from a programming themed instance. If on accident you are, my sympathies to whoever hires you. Because you show the inability to differentiate between a variable name and a variable type.

Eldritch,

No. Literally now you are projecting. I know the reason why. And I can state it clearly. And I’ve already stated it to you. The reason is that communists don’t want a state. Therefore, the idea of a state being communist is an oxymoron. Communists on the other hand, reject parts of communism wholesale. The USSR, PRC and DKPR call/called themselves Communist. Yet they all had more in common with dictatorial juntas and fascism than they did with communism.

At this point, you are basically asserting that a string named int is nothing but an integer.

Eldritch,

I agree with all that. That’s all fine for a nuanced discussion between those that understand it. This wasn’t that conversation.

I’m not ML either. Staunchly anti ML generally. Because of how much they malign and damage the concept for those of us that are evolutionary and not revolutionary. That and the generally deadly outcomes they bring about as well as the childish behavior. 30 years ago, I would not have understood the distinction between the name applied to them and the concept the name was derived from either. Let alone the marginally good intentions, their roads to social oppression were paved with.

Eldritch,

Most new businesses fail as well. Maybe we shouldn’t be starting new businesses either? Or perhaps this more about people being unprepared and out of their depth whether it’s starting a new business or forking a code base. And not the individual actions themselves.

Eldritch,

Again, I agree. Though I think it’s important to acknowledge a difference between social revolutions such as unionization where workers organize to have their voice represented against much bigger powers. And Marshall revolution. Of course, when peaceful protests becomes impossible, violent revolution becomes inevitable. Which is what happened initially with many of the ML experiments. Russia overthrowing the tzar China overthrowing the emperor etc. the problem is, when the external threat was gone. They turned on themselves.

The problem is, especially where Marxist leninists are concerned. And can be readily viewed through the lens of their use of Engles “on authority” as a crutch. They were ultimately intellectually, morally bereft. Becoming the monsters they said they’d eliminate. Forcefully annexing millions without their consent. And killing many more millions simply for their dissent. Something we must acknowledge if we’re to un-hypocritically call out capitalism and capitalists.

When it comes to winning people over. We should be able to do it with words, not weapons as a rule. If you can’t, either they’re paid not to understand. Or your ideas are lacking.

Eldritch,

100%. Organization, contribution, and advocacy are vital. Reading is always good. Only second to understanding in all senses.

  • Eldritch,

The teams have very different visions. Basically incompatible at a core level. From the very basic UI libraries. KDE uses QT, a pretty open source friendly tool kit, but IIRC not actually open source itself. Gnome uses GTK. The g in GTK originally referring to Gimp.

Gnome itself has traditionally had a much more apple way of doing things. If you venture outside of that. Things can break easily. And at a base level there are things gnome is kind of reluctant to do UI wise. That said, it’s simple and works well. KDE is kind of jack of all trades master of none. But it still does. All them quite well. If you want to mimic Mac OS. You absolutely can right down to the theme panel placements etc. If you want to emulate windows it’ll do that perfectly too. If you want to look like gnome. Yup. If you wanted to look like some unholy abomination the world was never meant to see. They got you covered as well. In fact, I think Garuda Linux comes default with that.

However, choice is never a bad thing. And there’s no real reason for them to merge. They run side by side. Quite brilliantly. And I even find myself popping back and forth from one to the other randomly. Your issue with snappiness under KDE could be a couple of things. There are a lot of configurable settings under the hood. You can decrease animation times etc etc etc. Which will often give a feeling of snappiness things just moving faster. But at a more fundamental level. Gnome has been a bit better optimized for use under Wayland etc. Which most distributions are moving towards. Which greatly increases the performance and responsiveness of many things. KDE has been lacking in at department. Though early this year we may see a solution to that. In the meantime though, sit back relax. Enjoy both and compute how you like.

    Eldritch,

I’m still using foobar under wine in Linux for the discogs tagger alone.

    Eldritch, (edited )

Let’s just hope it’s better than the music brains tagger itself. It’s been some years since I’ve tried it. I’ll admit. The mess it made the last time that has made me reluctance to give it another chance despite generally supporting what they do. I may just be a little OCD about my collection sometimes lol. But if it can actually get the right artist information, etc. Allow me to store stuff in a particular directory structure relatively easily and get cover art. It might stand a chance. I will give the AUR a check here in a bit to see if it has it.

    • Edit I will give it a little bit more try. But I haven’t found any way to configure the data that it’s pulling etc. Which is really going to limit it for my purposes. I have a lot of different things. That it’s just not getting correctly. I tried only a few albums. But the data it pulled was for a different release with much fewer tracks.
    Eldritch,

I hadn’t seen that yet. Although unfortunately, my experimenting with the tool ended abruptly last night when the LCD panel on the system went out. I may install it on a different system and see if I can figure out how to select releases that should solve the issue.

    Eldritch,

Ubuntu is Debian based as well. But yes, it’s 100% about avoiding the shoehorned in canonical shenanigans.

    Eldritch,

50lb neodymium magnets. They’ll destroy themselves colliding again each other. But we can use the heads of the wealthy to stop it. Even in zero g.

    Eldritch,

Seriously, one of the best ways to fix printer issues with windows. Is to buy a cheap raspberry pi zero or similar. And stick it in between as a print server. It solves so many random issues for both bad printer, firmwears and fucky windows behaviors

    Eldritch,

Yes definitely “some”. One rather big one though that I’d like to add.

    • Reagan was a sponsor of international terror. Selling arms to iran. Circumventing a US embargo. To arm Nicaraguan rebels, trying to overthrow the government that had ended the American occupation. Training and arming the mujahedeen in Afghanistan. Who were part of a group many might recognize al’queda. Run by some guy called Osama Bin’laden. I think I’ve heard of him maybe… All because “the commies” whom Regan and all Americans were pavlovianly trained to become apoplectic about at the mere mention. Marched into Afghanistan, failing and flailing much like the United States just finished doing. And that’s only two of the bigger ones.
    • Also it bares repeating but Reagan has a large part of the blame for the aids epidemic nationally like Mike Pence did in Indiana. Simply because they were both raging homophobic racist bigots.
    • The HUD rigging scandal was another good one. Did I mention Reagan was a hyper partisan dog whistling racist bigot yet? Either way it’s not repeated enough. Rewarding HUD contracts to Republican doners as quid pro quo.
    • Sooooooooo many scandals at the EPA.
    • Savings and loan scandal. A nice cancerous outcropping of Reagan’s deregulation that still harrows us to this day.

He’s literally a bottomless pit of harm and scandal.

    Eldritch,

💯! Reagan was a modern Republican through and through. There was almost nothing he touched or even looked at that didn’t suffer for it. It says a lot that his biological son named after him, disassociated from him so much. And only his adopted son carried on dealing with the cults perpetuating the misplaced hero worship.

    Eldritch,

False. Capitalism itself grew out of mercantilism. Which itself rose out of feudalism. Markets and currency predate capitalism. 18th century philosopher Adam Smith is basically seen as the father of capitalism. And no, Rome was never capitalist. Please do some basic reading.

No, better work leads to nothing specific in capitalism. It sometimes “can”. But the fact that nearly everyone knows someone who’s failed upwards. Well everyone knows one. Donald Trump alone disproves your claim.
