HobbitFoot,

I didn’t hate Ezri, and it was good that they made her intentionally different from Jadzia.

That said, it was sad to see Jadzia go.

HobbitFoot,

I would put the #2 panel likely around the 1910’s, when Ford’s five dollar day started pushing up wages across factory workers in the area. It wasn’t perfect, but it did bring a lot of people out of poverty.

HobbitFoot,

There is an issue of relative versus absolute progress.

The 1910’s were the first time in American history where a single factory worker could sustain a household on one salary, including purchasing a car. It wasn’t a perfect system and included a lot of corporate paternalism, but it was far better than what came before.

And the issue of working in a factory in the 1970’s had less to do with the working conditions and more to do with having a job. It wasn’t like conditions in a factory got worse between the 1950’s and the 1970’s, but more that the factory might close altogether and destroy a local town’s economy.

HobbitFoot,

I think there was even an episode in Enterprise? where an old Klingon lamented that modern Klingon society went too far towards being warriors that they were starting to neglect other parts of society. Hell, Ezri Dax was right that, by the time of the Dominion War, the Klingon Empire was in need of serious reform.

And if anything, the Klingons seemed like they had a larger empire for a while, well before humans even went to warp. It could just be that they went into atrophy for long enough that allowed the Federation to fill the void by Kirk’s time.

HobbitFoot,

After the War of 1812, the UK started to recognize the USA as a local power it had to deal with diplomaticly instead of with war. This gets shown in the negotiation of the 49th parallel and its maintaining of the Monroe Doctrine. Hell, the USA almost declared war against France after the Civil War to liberate Mexico.

Post World War I, the UK seemed to be the better ally. The UK was more willing to let the USA expand into core imperial territories during and after World War II. The USA didn’t have to fight a post British imperial war like it did for France in Vietnam. You also had the UK fall in line in NATO while France didn’t.

France would have been the better natural ally, but things change over time.

HobbitFoot,

Yeah. I feel like there has been this loss where teenagers can self form communities in the name of safety.

You have to ease in kids to being in control of themselves rather than dumping it all at once.

HobbitFoot,

The problem is that that those looking to increase regulation aren’t laying out what they want to do.

HobbitFoot,

Generally for certain decks that have the value of a car and only in certain formats.

Yeah, there are turn one kill decks, but they generally don’t exist in the formats most players play and WotC will ban cards if they do show up.

HobbitFoot,

It is line wearing a codpiece, but wrong.

HobbitFoot,

Oh God, Order of the Stick got real deep. Starting at the beginning will be great for at least a day.

HobbitFoot,

Something Positive is great and fun to start from the beginning.

Queen of Wands ended a while ago but was entertaining.

Dumbing of Age is fun, but the creator has also made several other comics based on a lot of similar characters. You can check them out too.

HobbitFoot,

For something not xyguy…

The episode does a great job of communicating actual military considerations in space. The Enterprise locates itself in a specific location to appear to be a sensor echo in Romulan sensors, which belays an in depth understanding that the Federation has for the Romulan Star Empire. Everything that both sides do shows an understanding of what the other side can reasonably do and in that creates a chess game.

I can’t think of too many sci-fi properties today that get into the lived in reality that this episode does. This episode goes way deep into the how of war, even with a new technology disrupting it.

HobbitFoot,

Unlimited* plans are always sold on the idea that a sizeable part of the user base aren’t going to use an actual unlimited amount of the resource.

Unless there is a contract regarding a fee over a period of time, there isn’t that much that users can do to compel a service to offer a service they no longer want to offer.

HobbitFoot,

I missed a connection of mine talking to someone at an airport bar.

HobbitFoot,

New Jersey state law requires everyone to sing along to Don’t Stop Believing.

1 Stick of Butter 2 Egg Yolks 3 Tbsp of Lemon Juice

HobbitFoot,

One thing not mentioned, ice.

Drink water with ice to physically reduce your body temperature. Wipe yourself with ice packs. Eat ice cream and frozen popsicles.

HobbitFoot,

I’m probably going to die in Neon Genesis Evangaleon.
