HobbitFoot,

So, the USA has been trying to pull out of Europe for a while from a military standpoint. The EU is large and rich enough that it should be able to protect its own frontier without American involvement. It just happens to be that Europe would rather have the USA pay for its security rather than do it itself. So the EU is going to have to figure out creating a military and all that comes with it; effectively making the EU a nation.

If the USA leaves Europe, it will likely leave the Middle East as well. Oil isn’t worth controlling any more and the USA doesn’t have any interests there besides Israel. I expect more wars in the region as nations realign to more stable borders. This will likely include a lot of genocide.

I expect the USA to focus on the Americas, maintaining an anti-Chinese coalition, and trying to slow dedollarization. Asian allies will likely tolerate a fascist America more than Europe would.

HobbitFoot,

I wouldn’t ditch Windows entirely, but I could see the business case of making sure your game can run on SteamOS.

HobbitFoot,

And would we even believe it if it told us?

HobbitFoot,

Even the anticipated cut of 2.25% is still higher than why the Silicon Valley boom was based on. You are also seeing the cuts happening due to an anticipated recession.

HobbitFoot,

Pulling back from investments is definitely related to the increased interest rate, but there really isn’t any government austerity in the federal government at the moment.

HobbitFoot,

It comes out a lot more at work events. Some people like them, but a lot of people don’t and are just faking.

HobbitFoot,

Yeah. It feels like an occasion to mark, not celebrate.

HobbitFoot,

I had a low bar, but at least Space Hercules didn’t need to invade Space Iraq to stop a planet from developing Space WMD’s in Discovery.

HobbitFoot,

I liked Season 3 of Discovery ok; it felt like they were trying to make Andromeda in the Star Trek universe. I didn’t watch seasons 1&2 though

HobbitFoot,

8th place? I thought Ralphie won the tournament.

HobbitFoot,

Maybe the vow of silence will shut him up.

HobbitFoot,

Something Positive is great and fun to start from the beginning.

Queen of Wands ended a while ago but was entertaining.

Dumbing of Age is fun, but the creator has also made several other comics based on a lot of similar characters. You can check them out too.

HobbitFoot,

Oh God, Order of the Stick got real deep. Starting at the beginning will be great for at least a day.

HobbitFoot,

For something not xyguy…

The episode does a great job of communicating actual military considerations in space. The Enterprise locates itself in a specific location to appear to be a sensor echo in Romulan sensors, which belays an in depth understanding that the Federation has for the Romulan Star Empire. Everything that both sides do shows an understanding of what the other side can reasonably do and in that creates a chess game.

I can’t think of too many sci-fi properties today that get into the lived in reality that this episode does. This episode goes way deep into the how of war, even with a new technology disrupting it.

HobbitFoot,

One thing not mentioned, ice.

Drink water with ice to physically reduce your body temperature. Wipe yourself with ice packs. Eat ice cream and frozen popsicles.

HobbitFoot,

I lucid dream and I find that when I lucid dream, that’s when I’m getting the best sleep I can get.

HobbitFoot,

Teach us your ways.

HobbitFoot,

I’m able to guess plot points in movies before they happen. This includes guessing how the kid keeps the family from eating the meal in Troll 2 and guessing the kind of sword Excalibur was in Sharknado 6.

Does the reddit style format breed toxicity?

Does the reddit style format inherently make for a toxic environment? Or is it a culture of toxicity from the influx of reditors? For lack of a beter example, on stackoverflow, when someone down votes you, it comes with a comment saying how to improve. On mastodon, people can’t downvote you. These platforms are a joy to use,...

HobbitFoot,

It is a problem of an Eternal September. Reddit was set up where the downvote was supposed to mean more than just disagreeing with people, but the influx of users, especially those only participating with Reddit by upvoting and downvoting, couldn’t be taught what you were supposed to do.

HobbitFoot,

The worst thing for Reddit is that they don't advertise against NSFW content. This has major revenue implications for Reddit.
