HobbitFoot,

The idea sounds great, but the implementation is shit and the fiduciary duty isn’t for those who bought the timeshare.

HobbitFoot,

I am lazy! Thank you!

Greenland startup begins shipping glacier ice to cocktail bars in the UAE (www.theguardian.com)

Arctic Ice harvests ice from the fjords of Greenland, and then ships them to the United Arab Emirates to sell to exclusive bars. Using glacial ice in drinks is a common practice in Greenland, and, over the years, several entrepreneurs have unsuccessfully attempted to export it....

HobbitFoot,

There are specialty companies in New York City that supply cocktail ice, but the ice is designed with a good flavor profile and is completely clear.

HobbitFoot,

Layoffs may continue.

Profitable tech companies have to maintain their existing businesses, but development of new businesses is likely to stay low and unprofitable businesses are still scrambling to hit profitability before bankruptcy.

HobbitFoot, (edited )

It depends on the area. Both Texas and New Jersey have very high property taxes, so it wouldn’t be that surprising. Or it could be expected insurance costs like in Florida, which could be very high.

HobbitFoot,

I would figure that Janeway with “Mmm whatcha say?” would be her firing a phaser.

HobbitFoot,

They’re smiling. How bad can it be if they are smiling?

HobbitFoot,

Both Seasons 2 and 3 were spoiled for me and everything the spoilers described made me not want to watch the show. This is in contrast to spoilers due SNW or Lower Decks that made the shows sound far more interesting.

But I feel like the damning view is setting the TNG crew on the bridge and having it feel really off. It wasn’t even like when Scotty drank on the holodeck version of the original Enterprise. The crew looked off on the old bridge in a way that felt strange. Yeah, everyone is back, but it really feels off.

HobbitFoot,

I only watched the first season of Picard, but everything I hear about it makes me believe I made the right decision.

HobbitFoot,

Insurrection was probably a better sendoff.

HobbitFoot,

The absolute worst is when those kinds of engineers graduate but are incapable of thinking about the problems they are designing solutions for.

HobbitFoot,

A few years ago, I had to tell someone to convert some pictures since they took them in .heic and being able to see them wasn’t standard. Their response was to manually change the file extension on each of hundreds of files from .heic to .jpeg.

HobbitFoot,

I would put the #2 panel likely around the 1910’s, when Ford’s five dollar day started pushing up wages across factory workers in the area. It wasn’t perfect, but it did bring a lot of people out of poverty.

HobbitFoot,

It is line wearing a codpiece, but wrong.

HobbitFoot,

I missed a connection of mine talking to someone at an airport bar.

HobbitFoot,

What’s cooler that being cool? Ice cold.

HobbitFoot,

Or you have reddit’s world politics, which is filled with anime titties.

HobbitFoot,

Moderating is hard and requires a set of skills to run moderation cheaply. You’re probably going to have a group of known mods on Lemmy doing the same, just because mods with these skills will be sought after.

A bigger issue is that Lemmy seems to be continuing Reddit’s practice of mod rank by time only. The implementation of a guild model would be better for mod governance, as it allows for better discussions of mod policy and allow greater input from the invested community.

Of course, trigger happy bans are still going to happen as people troll and worse.

HobbitFoot,

The government isn’t supposed to tell them what to do, they are good people.
