My mom got roped into buying a Wyndham timeshare on a trip and procrastinated herself out of the grace period. Is there anything she can do to get out of it now?
I have an issue in general with scifi totally ignoring the existence of bicycles, but star trek is particularly fun to think about since in so many situations beaming down in an away team with electric mountain bicycles would be incredibly useful in a basic utilitarian sense. Like shuttles, bicycles could be treated as...
ST:Picard showed that Earth basically had a public transporter network around the world. It is how Picard goes from his vineyard in France to Starfleet headquarters. So, it isn’t all car flying cities.
However, if these are the people making decisions to deploy resources, why would they think of having ground vehicles at all? The only reason why the dune buggy was in Nemesis was because Patrick Stewart wanted it. Otherwise, it doesn’t really make sense.
There is an issue of relative versus absolute progress.
The 1910’s were the first time in American history where a single factory worker could sustain a household on one salary, including purchasing a car. It wasn’t a perfect system and included a lot of corporate paternalism, but it was far better than what came before.
And the issue of working in a factory in the 1970’s had less to do with the working conditions and more to do with having a job. It wasn’t like conditions in a factory got worse between the 1950’s and the 1970’s, but more that the factory might close altogether and destroy a local town’s economy.
After the War of 1812, the UK started to recognize the USA as a local power it had to deal with diplomaticly instead of with war. This gets shown in the negotiation of the 49th parallel and its maintaining of the Monroe Doctrine. Hell, the USA almost declared war against France after the Civil War to liberate Mexico.
Post World War I, the UK seemed to be the better ally. The UK was more willing to let the USA expand into core imperial territories during and after World War II. The USA didn’t have to fight a post British imperial war like it did for France in Vietnam. You also had the UK fall in line in NATO while France didn’t.
France would have been the better natural ally, but things change over time.
I have noticed that I interact a lot more in Lemmy than I ever did in any social media. Let it be Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter… I am used to be the lurker, but here for some reason things are different. Wonder if more people feel like I do.
Unlimited* plans are always sold on the idea that a sizeable part of the user base aren’t going to use an actual unlimited amount of the resource.
Unless there is a contract regarding a fee over a period of time, there isn’t that much that users can do to compel a service to offer a service they no longer want to offer.
That’s only if they are chosen to be added. If I create a world politics sub and fill it with anime titties, I shouldn’t expect to be auto added to all world politics community groups.
With all these new bot instances popping up, have you already seen these accounts actually raiding stuff? And can/do we defederate from those instances?
