NeoNachtwaechter,

LOL you know what, I am currently reading the original.

I guess it’s you who wants to read it again.

NeoNachtwaechter, (edited )

No, the question isn’t clear.

Which time do you want to stop?

Since Einstein’s papers from 1905, we know that every being lives in it’s own time and also every place and every thing in the whole universe has it’s own time. So, which time do you want to stop?

Why do people not understand that you can agree with one thing someone said or did while disagreeing with the majority of what they stand for? (www.youtube.com)

An example is that I generally despise Jordan Peterson and most of what he says, but I often quote one thing that Jordan Peterson said (in the linked video) because I think it’s a good summary of why toxic positivity doesn’t work....

NeoNachtwaechter,

Unrelated to your example (tl;dr): most people find it exhausting to use their brain for actual thinking. They use it for excercising simple prejudice.

NeoNachtwaechter,

That depends only on your ratio of:

Fixed bugs / New bugs

:-)

NeoNachtwaechter,

It’s interesting that every time I open Voyager I see an update warnin

It means that these apps have extremely patiently suffering users :-)

Honestly - How much will you sacrifice for a better world?

Confronted with the likelihood that we cannot achieve climate goals, confront socioeconomic inequality, and ultimately build a better world without significant personal sacrifice: How much are you personally capable and willing to lose? I mean this in the most earnest way possible. Acknowledging the likely possibility of working...

NeoNachtwaechter, (edited )

build a better world

Doesn’t work because that goal doesn’t say much.

People are willing to spend or sacrifice for specific goals with good chances of actually reaching them. Otherwise they would turn away, unimpressed.

Also, the measure of how good the chances must be, and how specific the goal needs to be, is very diverse between the cultures and societies.

So, less is more: limit your scope to 1 country and culture, restrain your goals to specific and realistic ones, and you can achieve a lot with many followers.

NeoNachtwaechter,

I’ll sacrifice enough of my time to help build the guillotines we’ll need to deal with the root cause of these problems.

Billions of guillotines??

I do not want to know your dreams at night…

NeoNachtwaechter,

But you are assuming that he cannot remember his answers from the first try, and whether they were right or wrong.

NeoNachtwaechter,

But in order to get 100% in your second try, you can have either 0% or 50% in the first.

NeoNachtwaechter,

largely to secure someone’s position in their upper ranks

Yes, or simply because noone else really wants this war (=wants the country to pay the price of this war).

NeoNachtwaechter,

"Doppelgangers! Listen!

There is a good news and a bad news for you this morning.

The good news is: Our Great Leader has survived the dangerous attack last night.

The other news is: He has lost his right arm. "

NeoNachtwaechter,

Owning a home AND being stupid is a good way to become poor. So what.

NeoNachtwaechter, (edited )

I was lucky to meet some real operating systems (VMS, Unix) before I got contaminated with Microsoft products. So when I first heard about Linux (some guy in Finland wrote a new kernel and showed it to Prof. Tanenbaum, and when he grows up, he wants it to become a full fledged unix :-)) I knew already what it is.

NeoNachtwaechter,

Is it April 1st already?

NeoNachtwaechter,

I want it with Elon’s face in the backgrund, so that I can throw some darts at it!

NeoNachtwaechter,

They dug it out before. Later they rebuild it. But if they wait for a year, nature suffers much.

NeoNachtwaechter,

I hope we can separate the DE from the OS some day

We had that from the beginning of X. It could abstract nicely from all unices and even a little M$.

That era ended (unintentionally) with the dawn of KDE and GNOME, and I’m afraid it won’t come back with Wayland.

NeoNachtwaechter,

The most terrifying siren is the one of a dive bomber.

NeoNachtwaechter,

instead of using a proper file level backup

Backups do not solve everything.

For example once I had a bad cable, and it did a kinda sneaking silent damage. Let’s say 5 or 50 broken files every day. And only after some weeks I noticed some of them, and there was hardly a chance to identify them each day. And sometimes there was damage to the file system, too. It took a while find the root cause.

Today I use ZFS with redundancy and it does the recovery all by itself and my sleep is so much better :-)

NeoNachtwaechter,

I wasn’t saying backups are useless or something.

I was saying there are situations that backups can’t solve.

NeoNachtwaechter,

e2image

There’s a good reason for the 2 in the name.

Today we have ext4, and ZFS of course.
