SCB,

Oh my god I loved this as a kid, and had a shitload of the toys, and from my late teens on I’ve been trying like hell to figure out what this show/line of toys was!!!

Thank you for posting this today. Gonna show my kids. This is so wild.

SCB, (edited )

There is a massively conservative movement lurking in the left, which opposes any new advances and wants people to return to subsistence farming and shit. Same kind of people that argue against having kids to gut the population worldwide

Those people aren’t even worth arguing with. They’re not the people that will show up to do any work to accomplish policy objectives. They aren’t serious, their objections will never be listened to, and they don’t actually want to make anything better.

It’s just tradwife-homesteader fantasizing, just with a different economic view and less (but not 0) racism.

SCB,

So nothing relevant to the discussion. Got it.

SCB,

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought sentencing was supposed to reflect the severity of the crime and make fair restitution? I

These look like punitive damages designed to dissuade others from repeating what he did.

SCB,

Human beings like sex. Any sufficiently large platform will naturally trend toward it if possible.

SCB,

Hopefully this will be my grandchildren some day.

What is your unpopular flim opinion

I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds

SCB,

IMO The Dark Knight was hard-carried by Heath Ledger and without his performance that movie is about as good as DKR, which isn’t great.

SCB,

Interstellar is a terrible movie that doesn’t say or do anything special and I still don’t understand why anyone thinks it’s so amazing.

I did really like the robot guy though.

John Leguizamo is a hidden gem of cinema so the OG Mario punches way above its weight class.

SCB, (edited )

Too easy.

Ninja Assassin is one of my favorite action movies, has a sub-30% score, and I’ve paid to see it 4 times.

Absolutely fucking love that movie and could not believe it was such a flop. It’s balls-out fun from beginning to end

SCB,

We all like/dislike things for different reasons, and that’s okay

Absolutely man. I gush about notorious flop Ninja Assassin elsewhere in this thread. We like what we like and I mean no disrespect.

SCB, (edited )

I don’t like to take it too seriously.

I am a massive Star Wars fan and cannot understand people who expect it to be high cinema. It’s a series about space wizards and WW2-style air battles. Like all fantasy/SF, it is occasionally commentary on real-world stuff, but it isn’t trying to be Star Trek. Things are allowed to just be fun

SCB,

I’m a huge space nerd. I did also appreciate the visuals and realistic portrayal of time dilation, and should have noted that (though it may have diluted my opinion a bit?). I just didn’t like the actual movie itself.

SCB,

As a former teacher, this is still extremely obvious.

SCB,

The most brutally fast-paced work environment I’ve ever had looked almost exactly like this

Just double the monitors and make it an open office concept, and it’s a dead ringer.

SCB,

For my last open-office gig, it was 100% necessary because every salesperson worked with a junior, and you had to listen to them all the time to teach them.

SCB,

In my specific case that almost never happened. Logistics role, so super busy and intense, but you’re very much left to your own devices

I kind of miss the atmosphere now that I’m in a very different role, tbh. I do not miss the pressure tho.

SCB,

Strong disagree. Massively worse health outcomes, food insecurity, lack of opportunity for children due to worse educational opportunities, and less opportunity to be what you want to be instead of simply survive all contribute to make poverty decidedly not “fine.”

SCB, (edited )

We can absolutely live the life with same income, but without the grind. For that, we have to unionize and fight off hustle culture.

This has nothing to do with min wage tho. There are zero unionized workplaces that pay minimum wage.

I’m all for tying min wage to localized cost of living, and I’m extremely pro-union, but if the latter succeeds we just won’t really need the former.

SCB, (edited )

The picture above is 3 beings without jobs living in a cave with handmade furniture. They’re cold and miserable, because it’s a cave.

I am quite certain you can do that without grinding. Problem is, that’s a really shitty way to live in real life. Pooh can’t event afford pants.

Subsistence farming and other extreme poverty is not a solution. It is literally the problem.

SCB, (edited )

Very serious question: have you ever, as an adult, lived in poverty?

Because I have, and I found absolutely nothing noble in it. There’s nothing morally superior about skipping meals so your kid can eat. It’s just sad and shitty.

SCB, (edited )

So you’re working in hope to get a nebulous pile of 1s and 0s or a some colorful pieces of paper.

No. Money is a representation of an exchange of value.

Crypto is not money the same way gold is not money.

SCB,

Hell I’ve given my butthole quite the thrashing just sitting home by myself.

SCB,

The question posed is “Why do it”
