Socsa,

I mean my accounts keep getting banned pretty much just for commenting on worldnews threads these days so idk.

Socsa,

Also a weirdly large amount of “death to America” and whatnot.

Socsa,

This is false, you also need vim and tmux

Socsa,

I don’t really think Mao’s atrocities are disputed tbh.

Why do most people refuse to accept that they are wrong

I have come across a lot’s of people like these. like 99% of them. Sometimes it makes me think twice if what i am saying is wrong? What’s wrong with them. Is it so hard to swallow your pride and acknowledge that the other person is speaking facts? When they come to know they are wrong they proceed to insult/make fun of...

Socsa, (edited )

The problem with this is the quiet nihilism baked into it, which is the same reason so many people believe that widely supported science could be wrong.
In the absolute sense, it is true. Though things like “the sky is blue” is more about linguistics, but for a layperson it’s kind of inconsequential either way. While there is a small possibility that scientific consensus could be wrong, there is orders of magnitude bigger chance that unwarranted skepticism is dangerous. Reality does exist, regardless of how much epistemology you choose to wave away.

Socsa,

You forgot to mention the part where she is violently transphobic

Socsa,

Bill changes jobs every two years to outrun the crushing weight of institutional responsibility.

Socsa,

I would walk around in the summertime saying “how about this heat!”

Socsa,

You should know that in most filesystems that are not NTFS, spaces in file names are not well supported.

Socsa,

They were called “feature phones” at the time.

Google Researchers’ Attack Prompts ChatGPT to Reveal Its Training Data (www.404media.co)

ChatGPT is full of sensitive private information and spits out verbatim text from CNN, Goodreads, WordPress blogs, fandom wikis, Terms of Service agreements, Stack Overflow source code, Wikipedia pages, news blogs, random internet comments, and much more....

Socsa,

Yup, with 50B parameters or whatever it is these days there is a lot of room for encoding latent linguistic space where it starts to just look like attention-based compression. Which is itself an incredibly fascinating premise. Universal Approximation Theorem, via dynamic, contextual manifold quantization. Absolutely bonkers, but it also feels so obvious.

In a way it makes perfect sense. Human cognition is clearly doing more than just storing and recalling information. “Memory” is imperfect, as if it is sampling some latent space, and then reconstructing some approximate perception. LLMs genuinely seem to be doing something similar.

Socsa,

Trust me when I say that this is the easy part.

Socsa,

Collective willpower? Or centuries worth of social contract? Humans are kind of just animals who can predict the future by writing down the past.

Socsa,

OP is like James Joyce if James Joyce grew up with rotten.com

Socsa,

It’s also a delusion for the most part. None of the scenarios they carve out in their minds about why guns are essential tools has much basis in any rational threat profile. Otherwise these nutters would be walking around with helmets on all the time.

Socsa,

I have a halo around my front camera, but no status bar burn in

Socsa,

Oh God you said the L word

Mostly the parts where autocracy doesn’t liberate the workers. Even temporarily.

Socsa,

Right, the massive gap in Marxist theory is, and has always been, workable statecraft.

Socsa, (edited )

Marxist Leninists when they haven’t ignored 150 years of contemporary political science for sixteen microseconds

Socsa,

Visually it is exceptional, but I fear it is too dry and thin to make an effective walking stick or tool handle. Maybe for smaller hand tools like a screwdriver.

Socsa,

Just let it die. Start making original scripts.
