cygnus, to linux in Based KDE 🗿

windows is like their main product

TBF it isn’t really - only about 12% of their revenue. It’s more of a means to lock people into their other products.

cygnus, to linux in Is PopOs a good option if i don't want to tinker much with the OS and do some basic tasks as web browsing etc?
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

Pop is the distro that finally made me a Linux full-timer after 15 years. I don’t use it anymore but I’ll always be grateful to the devs at system76.

Do you mean a VST? There’s a good list of open-source VSTs here: github.com/webprofusion/OpenAudio

So it’s a computer that lets you remotely control another computer? Is the advantage over SSH or remote desktop etc that you can interact with stuff outside the OS, like in BIOS?

No problem! I really wish Serif/Affinity would port their suite of apps to Linux. Although it’s proprietary software, their underdog status vs. Adobe would still be a good fit in the ecosystem, I think.

cygnus, to linux in "Help me choose my first distro" and other questions for beginners
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

They didn’t include my distro of choice (Gentoo) or my desktop environment (TDE)

To be fair, these would both be absolutely terrible suggestions for beginners.

I wouldn’t compare it to Krita - it’s more like Illustrator (or perhaps Inkscape if looking for a FOSS equivalent, although it isn’t quite up to par in terms of features or workflow).

cygnus, to linux in What are people daily driving these days?
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

Same, EOS is awesome and cured my distro-hopping.

cygnus, to linux in Arch on semi-critical pc? (Also EndeavourOS vs raw Arch?)
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

I use my laptop for work all day every (week)day. It runs EndeavourOS and I haven’t had any problems - if anything I’ve encountered fewer annoyances than with any other distro I’ve tried to date (Pop, Fedora, Mint, OpenSUSE, Debian). I don’t use Btrfs but I do use Timeshift as well as Syncthing to back up files to a file server at home.

I haven’t felt the desire to install Arch, and TBH I’m not sure what the benefit might be because I’d just configure it to be basically the same as EOS anyway.

Legend has it that the Elders knew of a world outside Vim, a world that encompasses it and all other things. That arcana is now lost, and none can transcend our plane of existence. Vim is all we know.

cygnus, to linuxmemes in Finally, my name is realized.
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

That’s awesome, congrats. It’s like a form of immortality, having something of yours in the Linux kernel.

I thought she was a mod on Twitter. They never see anything wrong with any posts I report.

cygnus, to linux in In-progress COSMIC apps: terminal, file manager, text editor, and settings
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

They are cross-platform and supported on Windows, Mac, and Redox OS in addition to Linux.

I never made this connection until now, but of course that makes sense… Very cool.

cygnus, (edited ) to linux in Linux Distros Evolution - January 2024 Update: Pop!_OS in Decline?
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

No new version will be released until Cosmic is ready.

Edit: I don’t intend to badmouth S76 here. I love PopOS, it’s the distro that made me a Linux fulltimer. Cosmic looks great so far. However the last major release of PopOS was in early 2022.

cygnus, to linuxmemes in Yeah, very sorry that this app is Windows only, would love to switch to Mac

I think Unices would be correct, if it works like “appendix” etc…
