Whoa that website’s demo video is selectable text that plays like a video

FWIW I like LibreOffice for presentations, but for text documents I prefer OnlyOffice (which looks and behaves exactly like Word)

cygnus, to linux in What Tweak, Program, ... changes a Desktop Environment from unusable to great for you?
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

I don’t like Gnome but Dash to Panel at least makes it usable for me. As for tweaks, I always move KDE’s taskbar to the top of the screen rather than bottom.

Exactly. Using a GUI is too imprecise; it’s made for plebeians. I enter vector coordinates directly into the terminal.

cygnus, (edited ) to linux in Scribus 1.6 Open-Source Desktop Publishing App Released as a Major Update
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

I tried it years ago and it felt more like Quark to me (not a compliment) but should give it another chance. For the past several years I’ve been using Affinity Publisher in a Windows VM.

Edit: just tried it out a bit (ver. 1.5.8 because that’s what’s in the Arch repo) and it’s better than I remembered. Adobe-like shortcuts. I made a new document and created a few text styles.

I’m glad it worked out for you. In my case they are really not comparable, especially when working with text. Inkscape can’t even do bullet points or paragraph spacing.

cygnus, to linux in EndeavourOS Ditches Xfce for KDE Plasma with the Galileo Release
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

Galileo is the name of the “release”, which while somewhat of a misnomer for a rolling-release distro, is something EndeavourOS has done since the beginning. The current release is called Cassini Nova.

cygnus, (edited ) to linux in Reddit API blew up and now I run Linux?

It really is a slippery slope. When does it end???

Given that you’re learning Rust, probably getting programming socks and a Blahaj, and then…

cygnus, to linux in Steam Linux Marketshare Surges To Nearly 2% In November
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

I’m not sure if steam deck is counted under Arch

It must be, because there’s no way vanilla Arch is the most-used Linux distro, even among gamers.

cygnus, to linux in Arch on semi-critical pc? (Also EndeavourOS vs raw Arch?)
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

I actually use Arch as the OS for thousands of computers for my work that end up in customer hands, who expect stability.

Whoa… Do you work at Steam?

cygnus, to linux in Just install EndeavorOS lol
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

lmao this is exactly the image that would pop into my head if I imagine a Slackware user in 2023.

cygnus, (edited ) to linux in Linux Distros Evolution - January 2024 Update: Pop!_OS in Decline?
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

Stagnant was probably the wrong choice of word. Perhaps “stable” (in the Debian sense) would be more apt, and that isn’t for everybody. I think you will see a HUGE influx once Cosmic launches.

cygnus, to linux in Linux Distros Evolution - January 2024 Update: Pop!_OS in Decline?
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

I guess it depends how one defines “update” versus “version”. Again, please don’t take what I’m saying as criticism of what you guys are doing, because PopOS is great — I just happen to have a personality better suited to rolling-release distros. Pop is what I usually recommend to first-time Linux users though.

cygnus, to linux in USB webcam lagging only in Zoom?
@cygnus@lemmy.ca avatar

It works perfectly there! Thanks for this — it confirms the issue is with the standalone app (and Flatpak).
