Palestine Children’s Relief Fund: Israel Is Threatening to Bomb Gaza’s Only Pediatric Cancer Unit --- [video, 33 min + transcript] (www.democracynow.org)

As the U.N. secretary-general repeats his call for an immediate ceasefire, the death toll in Gaza has topped 10,000, including 4,000 children. That one, and the writer, have not aged well. Old shows often have jokes that just leave a bad taste today, and Graham Linehan’s unpleasant politics add to this. But it seems he went off the deep end after he had finished his best work, and aside from this episode the rest remains funny and watchable.

floofloof,

I wiped Windows and have been running Linux without issues on a Dell XPS 13 9360 for some time, so it can be done at least with some of their models. For what it’s worth I’m using OpenSUSE Tumbleweed.

floofloof,

It’s a 13" laptop from late 2017, with an 8th gen Intel i7 in it. With Tumbleweed it feels faster than my other XPS 13, which has an 11th gen i7 but runs Windows. I actually thought the 2017 one was finished because under Windows the fans ran all the time and it overheated so badly it would slow to a crawl. I repasted it twice with no improvement. But once I switched it to Linux the fans hardly come on, and they’re quiet when they do. Linux has been a huge improvement on that machine.

floofloof,

With Windows it always feels like I get the dregs of the CPU cycles after all the corporate interests with software on the computer have taken their share.

floofloof,

I hope that picture is some kind of toilet showroom and not a public toilet.

floofloof,

Ah yes, just like how free speech means corporations must be allowed to bribe politicians.

Piracy is Preservation (feddit.de)

Image description: a screenshot from the Wikipedia page for the Doctor Who TV series, with a user-added caption that reads “Preserve the media you can before it’s gone forever.” The Wikipedia article reads, “No 1960s episodes exist on their original videotapes (all surviving prints being film transfers), though some were...

floofloof,

I wish there were something like bittorrent that worked better as an archival mechanism. The weakness of bittorrent is that material tends to disappear completely when there is no longer widespread popular interest in it.

floofloof,

According to Meadows’ book, the election was “stolen” and “rigged” with help from “allies in the liberal media,” who ignored “actual evidence of fraud, right there in plain sight for anyone to access and analyze.”

But, as described to ABC News, Meadows privately told Smith’s investigators that – to this day – he has yet to see any evidence of fraud that would have kept now-president Joe Biden from the White House, and he told them he agrees with a government assessment at the time that the 2020 presidential election was the most secure election in U.S. history.

Just another shameless Republican liar and hypocrite.

floofloof,

Trump is famous for defending ordinary people against scams. Oh no, wait, it’s the other way round.

floofloof,

74 million of them at the last election.

Does usage of third party youtube apps necessitate a VPN in the near future?

Greetings y’all. I’ve been using ways to circumvent YouTube ads for years now. I’d much rather donate to creators directly instead of using Google as a middle man, needing YouTube Premium. If even pay for premium for just a add free version, if the price wouldn’t be so outrageous. I’ve So far used adblockers, Vanced...

floofloof,

They might do it, but there could also be a cost to Google if they started banning people’s accounts based on uncertain behavioural metrics. I expect it would at least be a while before they’d go that far. But a VPN can’t hurt.

floofloof,

You could look at everynoise.com to find artists close on the map to ones you like, and to discover related genres. It’s based on Spotify’s database.

floofloof,

Ah, the luxury of not being a parent.

floofloof,

Isn’t the inane commentary the only thing that distinguishes the AI DJ from the other playlists Spotify generates each day?

Also if you scroll further in this thread you will see a lot of people celebrating the attacks.

I read the whole thread and didn’t see a single person celebrating these attacks. Where are the “lot of people” you mention?

    floofloof,

Not sticking to things is bad news for Spiderman.

    floofloof,

I’ll always choose the FOSS option first, but if you want something that does most of what the Adobe products do, has decent CMYK support, and doesn’t charge a subscription, the Affinity software suite (Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher) is pretty good value.

    floofloof,

I prefer Lemmy’s UI. Good to have choices though.
