Here’s a more apt analogy: It’d be like killing everyone in North Korea to get Kim Jong Un and pals

sleep is depression, i say as someone with adhd-induced inspmnia on top of just regular insomnia who can’t sleep for shit

i spent 3 hours lying down with my eyes closed not being able to sleep after getting 2 hours of sleep the night before, after staying up for 24 hours straight. end me

yea and galician “looks like” a dialect of spanish, norwegian “looks like” a dialect of danish, and afrikaans “looks like” a dialect of dutch. hell, i can say english “looks like” a dialect of ulster scots. “dialect”/“accent” and “language” are meaningless words

that being said the text in this post is scottish english, not scots

why did you have to say this

force, (edited ) to asklemmy in What is Something Scientific that you just don't believe in at all?

What if you’re doing the research real-time? What if you, yourself, have done the experiments which logically are evidence? There are a lot of things you can scientifically prove yourself. And there are a lot of phenomena you can mathematically prove without even doing the experiments, although you have to try to mitigate or account for chaos / the specific environment you’re working with.

Conspiracy bullshit like “you haven’t seen the scientific evidence so it might just all be made up by so-called scientists” is garbage. You are a nut if you think that. It is on the same level as flat-earthers and anti-vaxxers.

If you’re doing college at 30 you’re probably not stupid, stupid people wouldn’t do school at all when afforded the chance to. Unless they already have a position in the industry they wanted to and a degree wouldnt help advance their career enough to warrant the time and money spent

30 is young, you still have at least a good 10-20 years of enjoying your life ahead of you right

Also idk about in the US but in a large part of Europe you get paid to do a graduate degree (or at least a PhD), and the courses are often in English, if you want to you should totally look at Germany or Slovakia/Czechia or Norway/Finland (although I think Norway recently made tuition no longer free for foreigners), or even Panama or Brazil, you can get free college and cheap housing (well, not in Scandinavia, but the rest of the countries). You should be able to get in depending on the major’s demand, and they’re very nice countries to exist in other than Brazil… although Eastern Europe would probably be a massive culture shock, a lot are pretty “blunt” or “dark” in their mannerisms I guess.

A majority of linguists consider Serbocroatian to be one language, there are many distinct dialects (with different countries having different standards). The writing system is irrelevant, the writing system isn’t the language (this can be seen in Mongolian, Tibetan, Hindustani, Persian, Kazakh, previously Azerbaijani, and contemporary Chinese languages as well). Also you can write Serbian in Latin script (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanization_of_Serbian)

They are no less mutually intelligible than what are considered different dialects of other languages. In fact as someone who can read Russian & Polish I can understand a good amount of written Serbocroatian with trouble (it’s a lot harder than reading something like Ukrainian due to linguistic distance), it’s significantly closer between Serbian & Croatian varieties. Often people on media/politics pretend not to understand the other though due to mutual hatred from nationalism.

I would like to spend a lot of time on the language one day, I haven’t done much besides read some from grammar books on it. I like it a lot.

i can’t tell if this is serbocroatian or slovenian or something else but i’m too afraid to ask

netherlands, denmark, maybe germany, maybe finland. i’d most rather live in the netherlands or possibly denmark, although it’d probably make more sense for me to want to live in germany or finland because i don’t speak dutch or danish lmao. regardless though getting permanent residence in denmark or finland is practically a hopeless goal for a majority of people, so they’re basically out of the question

i can get slovak, maybe german citizenship based on descent (i’m in the process of getting the stuff i need from the slovak government to apply for citizenship but they really take their sweet time) and i’m mostly a software guy so it’d probably make the most sense to move to one of those, however the netherlands probably holds way better opportunities for me

for most people getting into another country (especially europe) is out of the question though, you either have to have extremely marketable work experience (like 3-5 years as an engineer or developer) or you have to happen to qualify for citizenship by descent and have the birth/marriage/death/citizenship/residence documents for it (e.g. anyone who had italian citizenship since 1860, anyone who lived in an area controlled by hungary ever since hungary existed, anyone who was polish 1920 or later, anyone who was czechoslovak or german for the past century, an irish grandfather)
