When the world mentions the word ‘Democracy’ … everyone thinks of ‘Democracy’

When the US mentions the word ‘Democracy’ … it means invasion, war, bombs and death

In America, the word ‘democracy’ has lost all meaning

Yes it became prominent after 9/11 … but that kind of behaviour has been going on for a century and more distinctively after the Second World War

Look up the history of Allen/Foster Dulles and their work for American Corp in the 20s and 30s … their enthusiasm for war in the 40s … and then with the CIA in the 50s and 60s … the actions of which led to what happened in the 70s and 80s … which later on affected what happened in the 90s and 2000s. It makes you understand that even if the US people don’t want a war … those in positions of power and wealth enjoy war and conflict because it makes them money and spreads their power. We accuse other nations of doing the same but America does it while draped in a democracy flag and an ugly tattoo across their forehead that says ‘freedom’.

Same in Canada because everyone in power would rather spend all their time energy and expertise dismantling the health care system and privatize it than in actually making it work the way it should.

The only incentive to privatization is that a small group of people can make a lot of money.

Keeping things public doesn’t make many people wealthy and it only provides equal benefits to everyone, which everyone takes for granted and never appreciate until those benefits are gone.

Makes you look stupid for not returning yours

The only motivation she has to return the cart is that she finished her shopping and forgot to buy six cases of a cheap off brand coffee that is on sale at the Costco she just left.

It would be easy to adapt … just throw in random censor ‘beeps’ through the dialogue … even cut out entire segments with one long beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep and then return back to regular dialogue.

Don’t laugh … it’s a really bad day when your car/truck decides to run …but the cab heater has stopped working … on a really cold day at minus 10 to 20 degrees Celsius (+14F to -4F in American) … your windshield basically becomes a frosty block of ice that will clear up for a minute after you scrape it before it forms a new layer of frost again.

I drove around for a week continually scraping the windshield to drive around town one winter a few years because of this. And if you are unlucky, police will stop you, ticket you and tell you to tow your vehicle home.

@ininewcrow@lemmy.ca avatar

True … if you decide to head out on a busy roadway or highway … when I had the problem with my windshield, I was just moving over block to block to get to where I had to be in my neighbourhood. I do remember one friend who was coming up from Toronto in February who lost his heating midway through on his way to Timmins and he said it was absolutely scary to decide to drive on a northern highway with a windshield like that.

You’re right, it is an absolutely dangerous thing to do in the wintertime and I’d never attempt it on a major roadway if I had the choice.

India is the eye opener … an enormous market of 1.5 billion people and the majority of them are too poor to pay for any specialty OS … it’s going to turn into a futuristic dystopia down there … people living in slums but scrounging up old neglected and forgotten hardware to bring them back online with Open Source Software.

Edit: I don’t normally make big corrections or changes to my comments but after rereading this, I think I went a bit too far with my assumptions about another country and culture … thanks @embed_me for putting it to my attention

I was probably too hasty in my assumptions … simplistic, stereotypical maybe even a bit racist

I just thought it made economic sense … why build an entire economy or business using foreign owned software and basing it all on a foreign company, especially one with unknown loopholes that would put the company’s and country at risk by a foreign power.

Thanks for the correction and insight … I’ll be more careful about my assumptions in the future.

It’s a holy trinity … there is the hot dog, you eating the hot dog and you and the hot dog becoming one and the same but still separate
