otp, to asklemmy in Which of your favorite creators content quality went downhill very quickly?

Wow. Someone over there is defending him being a fan of the Proud Boys guy because he claims the Proud Boys aren’t a terrorist group (despite having been declared as such).

He says they’re “very extreme right at worst”, as if there’s some sort of sliding scale on the right wing that eventually gets to “extreme right”, “very extreme right”, “terrorist organization” just naturally…and he isn’t aware they crossed the line years ago.

otp, to historyporn in Trey Parker and Matt Stone, high on acid at the 2000 Oscars.

They have admitted when they were wrong in the past.

All the previous presidents were characters in South Park. Clinton, Bush, Obama…all represented as themselves.

Trump is represented by the most racist character in South Park who is otherwise famous for being fucked up gay trans trans and lesbian transtrans and gay whatever the heck he is now.

It just sort of happened that way, but there hasn’t been a precedent for this.

I don’t know if they’re still doing the “both sides” thing, but they might’ve stopped at some point.

Not that they won’t make fun of people on the political left, but they might have gotten over the political fence sitting.

otp, to asklemmy in Why are there so many apps that could be websites?

Especially in an app rather than a mobile browser.

otp, to linuxmemes in You have no power here

Or worse, Numb_LinkinPark.mp3.exe just shows up as Numb_LinkinPark.mp3, making it look like it’s DEFINITELY a legit MP3!

otp, to asklemmy in Mickey Mouse is now public domain (Steamboat Willie specifically). What do you think we will see this year?

A lot of Disney throwing its weight around as people accidentally overstep the bounds of copyright, trademark and other legal stuff like that.

Not saying Disney would be in the right. But Disney is bonkers for this kind of stuff, and they’ve got ridiculous amounts of money to spend in court.

otp, to asklemmy in Why was Ronald Reagan and Nancy Reagan so bad for the American people?

Some people actually use social media to learn or practice another language, so some may appreciate the tip and the correction.

As well, it just looks better when content is written properly. If the questions here were all stuff like “how is babby formed wen women is pragnant”, it wouldn’t seem like the kind of community made for people who are genuinely trying to find answers to their questions.

otp, to privacy in Privacy Concerns on Lemmy: A Call for More User Control

Even then, any public comments you make are, you know… public.

As they should be.

Public comments is how you can find patterns of sketchy user behaviour.

otp, to asklemmy in You have a magic pill, which de-ages you by 20 years. You can take it once in your life only, so long as you are at least 20. What age — past, current or future — do you reckon is best to take it?

Yeah, it’s gotta be in the late 40’s.

By then, you’ve got all the aches and pains, and you’ll know better to take care of things like your posture! Lol

otp, (edited ) to asklemmy in Lottery winner

You’d be competing against multi-billionaires and huge corporations. It wouldn’t be enough, even though it’s a ridiculous amount of money for one person.

Changing the US would probably be impossible. Maybe changing your state would be possible. Changing your local community would be much more realistic.

Helping people get homes and food would likely help reduce crime.

Helping people get educations would help some people escape certain situations.

If you’re fixed on changing the US political situation and you think there’s a party that can change the situation, you can go with political donations. I believe whichever party spends the most money on their campaign is the one that wins more often than not.

otp, to upliftingnews in South Korea passes ban on dog meat consumption

I’m actually surprised this is in uplifting news, unless outlawing meat consumption at all and enforcing veganism is uplifting. Which it might be to some people, but I like eating meat.

I’m eagerly awaiting lab-grown meat to become cheaper than slaughtered meat, though!

otp, to asklemmy in Lemmings in school, what are they teaching about drug addiction, fentanyl, and opiods?

Yeah, this is not the best question because you’ll get very different answers from different parts of the world, or even different parts of the US.

I graduated more than a decade ago, and there was a lot more nuance than what you described. They taught us about different types of drugs and what their real effects were. I remember learning in high school that marijuana is less dangerous than cigarettes and alcohol.

In elementary school for me, there were big anti-smoking campaigns, but nothing about alcohol or harder drugs. The “just say no” was about peer pressure and doing anything you felt uncomfortable doing (including inappropriate touching).

otp, to asklemmy in What are some food items that cost less than what they "should"?

That does depend on where you are in the world. Even in North America, not everyone can just turn on a tap.

As well, it’s generally our tax dollars that go to treating and supplying it. So we do pay for it.

That said, you’re absolutely right. It’s my favourite thing to drink, and it probably wouldn’t be if I had to pay for every glass! Lol

otp, to asklemmy in What's some amazing technology they have in Japan that's very normal to them but would blow our minds here in the US and western world?

I don’t understand why you’re so angry. Do you not get how bidets work?

otp, to asklemmy in Customs Officers: Have you ever laughed out loud when someone gave you their passport and they had an… unusual name?

I had a job where I had to say customer’s names. Usually first name was fine, but maybe 1% of people hated it when you called them by it without asking, and some even hated being asked.

So last name it was.

Everything was fine.

… until Mr. Butt showed up.
