scytale,

Sometime in the late 2000s. Bought a used netbook from someone and didn’t know it had ubuntu on it.

scytale,

Man, I don’t remember the exact model, but it was a newer black Nokia phone I think. I remember the one before it though, the OG Motorola Razr flip phone.

scytale,

Machete - versatile for protection, hunting, cooking

Water purifier - no explanation needed

Night vision goggles maybe? - more discrete than a flashlight

Jeep - but you know that thing will break down pretty quickly

It's funny how google pretends the music on YouTube isn't straight up piracy and everyone just goes along with it

Most people have extremely weird ideas of what’s considered piracy and what isn’t. Downloading a video game rom is piracy, but if you pay money to some Chinese retailer for an SD card containing the roms, that’s somehow not piracy. Exploiting the free trial on a streaming site by using prepaid visa cards is somehow not...

scytale,

Because the music in Joe Schmo’s video gets claimed by the artist’s label/distributor, and they get paid for it. I experienced this first hand when I uploaded a music video of my song on my youtube channel and my distributor claimed it. I had to go and prove to them that I’m the very same person and owner of the music before they released the copyright claim on my video.

scytale,

The problem is you can’t get people to organize and work together if everyone is worried about where to get their next meal. Hell, people can barely even do that now; how much more when that time comes.

Is linux good for someone tech illererate.

Now i’ve been considering moving to linux. I don’t have much of a history using a computer and find it tougher to use than my phone. But I also really appreciate the foss movement. I’ve currently got an old laptop running windows 11 I think and it would prolly speed up with linux too. But I’m afraid I’d fuck smth up...

scytale,

Linux has come a long way and is very user friendly now that even non-techie people can hit the ground running when using it. Similar to what the other comment mentioned, installing it is like 80% of the hard part. Just pick a distro that is recommended for beginners (i.e. Mint), and read up on a guide for creating a bootable usb installer. Distros like Mint make it very easy to install, you just need to know how to boot it from a usb drive.

I remember someone attempted to create an instance to centralize all content from nsfw instances so your All feed is explicitly nsfw and you don’t need to subscribe. Dunno what happened but I think the instance is gone now.

When it comes to a point where someone can buy anything they want, gifts become more of non-material things, like spending time with family or personally crafted items that aren’t necessarily expensive.

scytale,

I saw the other day Tuta complaining that Outlook has been sending emails from tutanota.com straight to junk/spam. What’s surprising is tuta.com emails were fine. So not sure if their domain change had anything to do with it, or if MS is doing the same thing as in the OP.

recommendations for lightweight window managers for an old netbook

Hi, I’ve got an old netbook from Samsung that has an old Intel Atom CPU (Intel Atom N455 1.66 GHz). I installed Arch on it and am now thinking of a suitable window manager. I tried Hyprland (kinda expecting it to not work really) whick didn’t start at all. Before I had Debian with Gnome, which technically worked, but...

scytale,

+1 for openbox. It’s fast and lightweight.

I was a bit bummed when I heard Godzilla was on screen for less than 10 minutes, but the reviews and ratings have convinced me to probably go watch it in theaters!

Edit: I just booked last minute tickets for the last show tonight (in 1.5 hours) lol. I’ll be busy tomorrow and I don’t want to go on a weekend, so might as well go now.

Edit 2: Just got back from the theater. The two best things about this film are:

  • Atomic breath / heat ray. Even the latest hollywood godzilla’s version of atomic breath is nothing compared to this one. Amazing.
  • The score. The eerie orchestral swells fit so well with the circumstances of the time period when the film takes place. I’ll definitely listen to the score again if they release it officially.

I’d say it’s worth it to watch in theaters. It’s not perfect, but all scenes with godzilla more than make up for whatever flaws the rest of the film has.

Does the old.reddit redirect work? I installed sinkit to try it out but it still loads the mobile interface even with redirect toggled on.

Edit: Nevermind, it worked after restarting. Thanks for the recommendation.

scytale,

Is it right that Apple is putting the responsibility of preventing it on app developers?

scytale,

Unless you can get the majority of your customer base on decentralized social media platforms, you’ll have to live with having to maintain a presence on both sides. Now if you’re asking how to run your business more securely on centralized platforms, general advice would be:

  • Use a separate account to manage your business page. Don’t use your personal account or email.
  • Logon to your business account on a desktop browser with uBO in a container tab. Know that you will be limited on some features (i.e. no reels/shorts on desktop).

He’s applying the wall of sound technique. Everyone knows women like overcompressed mixes with no dynamics.

scytale,

Not a student, but when I study for certification exams, I listen to movie soundtracks. Stuff from Johann Johannsson, Nick Cave, Bear McCreary, Thomas Newman, Max Richter, and some Hans Zimmer. No lyrics so it’s not hard to concentrate.

scytale,

Oh I didn’t know it’s already out. I think I only saw one teaser in the last few months. Love me some Yorgos. I’ll watch this asap and update this comment with my review.

scytale,

After seeing how scary and powerful he is in Minus One, I don’t think any type of fantastical depiction of Godzilla will ever top it. I’m sure it’s still gonna be a fun movie to watch though. Who doesn’t like to see giant monsters fight.

scytale,

This also works with noodles if you don’t want to eat rice. Just add thick wheat or egg noodles and mix it in until it’s cooked in the sauce.

scytale,

I misread the headline as “cinematography” and imagined they were watching a bunch of Roger Deakins films.

scytale,

Just searching Documentaries pulls up multiple communities where you can post this.
