scytale,

There’s someone at my work that owns a huge truck and they park at a turning corner inside the garage every single day. The garage is already cramped as it is, and then you’ve got a huge truck blocking off visibility when you turn the corner.

scytale,

How’s the legroom in the second row? I love the aesthetic of the Santa Cruz and that it’s not an obnoxiously large truck while still capable of hauling and towing stuff. I did notice that the space inside looks pretty tight.

scytale,

Omg you just can’t go say the d word. /s

scytale,

Yeah. I just look at the price and how many layers (i.e. 2 ply, 3 ply) there are, and decide from there.

scytale,

Work outside of work. We’re at a bar after office hours, stop talking about work.

He’s a great visual director, but he needs a good writer to keep him in check.

scytale,

I wish there was a time allowance for editing comments without showing that the comment was edited. Something like 30 seconds would be enough to correct a misspelled or missing word. Most of my comments that are marked as edited are simple typos that I edit within a few seconds of posting them.

What are your criteria for upvoting/downvoting?

I hate that I always compare Lemmy to Reddit, but Reddit used to have (not sure if they still do) guidelines called “Reddiquette” that included guidelines about upvoting and downvoting. I don’t remember the specifics (and sending too much of my browser traffic to Reddit makes me feel dirty) but one of the guidelines was...

scytale, (edited )

Top. Doesn’t really matter most of the time though because I always set them to auto hide.

scytale,

Yep, just change your user-agent and they’ll flip the switch immediately.

scytale,

You get a 5 second delay before they flip the switch if you’re a firefox user.

scytale,

Because Lemmy is a forum type of site, which is designed for discussions; whereas Mastodon is microblogging, which is designed for users to follow people they are interested in.

What is the deal with Palestine and Hamas?

For mental health reasons, I had taken myself out of most political topics. But lately there seems to be a surge of talk about Palestine and Hamas (forgive me if I spelled this wrong). I do know it’s something to do with land rights, but it also seems to be so much more at the same time. I’m not trying to start any fights. I...

Sorry but you make it sound like it’s easy to just get up and leave. If that was the case, all the people I know back in my 3rd world home country would’ve left already. Just because there are communities around the world, it doesn’t mean it’s easy to get there, especially with how strict immigration is nowadays. Not to mention these are people coming from the middle east, in a region where countries are wary of accepting people from.

[DISCUSSION] What director(s) do you think have the best filmography?

I was checking out the new season of Fargo, which made me want to rewatch the 1996 movie and I got to thinking, the Coen Brothers have a fantastic filmography. They have way more hits than misses and they make some of the most interesting movies out there. No Country for Old Men is probably one of my favorites of all time. So...

scytale,

Denis Villeneuve hands down. The guy has never made a bad mainstream film yet. Some would argue Enemy is his worst, and even then it’s not really a bad film.

scytale,

They do not, fortunately.

scytale,

I have a “friend” on facebook who completely idolizes Harvey. Like posts quotes and often with a picture of the character.

scytale,

Yup, that and Mint are your best options for distros that just work out of the box.

scytale,

That’s how I explain it as well. It’s better than the email analogy I see all the time. Obviously using reddit as an example only works if the person you’re talking to knows what reddit is. Otherwise, I just change it to something they know (i.e. facebook, discord, etc.)

scytale,

Because I can go through Hot and Top for 6/12 hours in a couple of hours with how the community here is still pretty small.

scytale,

I’ve used Aha and ControlD for the longest time, and just recently switched to Mullvad’s new DoH service.

scytale,

You’re correct in that you shouldn’t mess with the DNS settings when on the vpn. Off vpn, I have had good experiences with Control D ans Aha Blitz on browsers and mobile, with the latter allowing you to actually select the granular filter lists yourself. I recently switched to Mullvad’s DoH though and it’s been good so far

scytale,

Not sure if it’s your thing, but there’s a new True Detective season coming next month.

scytale,

I love how you can just randomly a join a watchparty at caracal even without an account. Thanks for the recommendation.

scytale,

For western movies, yes generally. I love the trailers of Park Chan-wook’s movies. See the trailers for The Handmaiden and Decision To Leave for example. They don’t give out the plot, they are very intriguing, and subvert expectations once you see the movie.

DoH blocker for IOS: Mullvad or Aha DNS Blitz

So I prefer to use a DNS blocker (DoH) on my IOS devices to block ads, malware, and trackers. For the longest time I’ve been using Aha DNS Blitz because it allows you to choose the exact filter lists you want to enable. Recently I saw Mullvad now has their own DoH service as well and I’m trying it out now. It’s not as...

scytale,

Yup I understand that. I’m primarily asking what the community thinks is a better DNS blocker between Aha Blitz and Mullvad’s, both of which provide DNS blocking over https.
