db2, in What is this air compressor part called?

Looks like a pressure release/safety valve, and yes you can replace it. But it looks like you might want to try cleaning it out first.

mack123,

Agreed, It looks fairly easy to disassemble and clean. I would attempt that before replacing. You may find a YouTube vid or two showing how. Pvc thread tape is your friend. Dirt in the valve will stop it from closings properly as pressure builds.

mrbubblesort, in How old are you?
@mrbubblesort@kbin.social avatar

Old enough to know that you probably shouldn't ask that question on the internet

Nemo, in How old are you?

Just turned forty, don’t work in tech. Yeah, I know I’m the weirdo here.

Though it does seem so far like lemmings act less teenaged than redditors.

tipping_point,

I’m with you. Late 40s and no tech background. It took a long time for Reddit to attract people my age when I joined a dozen years ago. I hope the olds don’t take so long this time around

Chozo, in Kbin federation change?

It might be related to this:
https://kbin.social/m/random/t/134102/Blocking-instances-to-clear-the-500k-queue#comments

Today kbin.social is blocking a huge list of domains just to get federation working again.

The reason for this temporally block is not to defederate, but rather to get the large backlog of 500k messenger queue processed again. Anyway, this does mean that kbin.social is federating again with other instances.

This is a temporary measure. Several users / developers are looking into how to better optimize the failed message queue, as we speak. Hopefully Ernest has eventually time to dive into solutions as well instead of workarounds, once his instance is migrated to Kubernets. See my preview thread: https://kbin.melroy.org/m/updates/t/4257/Kbin-federation-issues-and-infra-upgrade

mcmxci,

This is super helpful, thanks!

Fiddler, in The cheapest mortgage rate I can get today is 9.13% which is insane. What's the lowest rate you can get?
@Fiddler@kbin.social avatar

Poland here. Was quoted 2-3 months ago anywhere from 9.5% to 11.10%. Fixed rate for 5 years and then it would be updated to whatever the new rate will be.

I refused, gave up the purchase of a house till the prices will calm down (if ever), going to buy a boat to live aboard.

Mateng, (edited ) in The cheapest mortgage rate I can get today is 9.13% which is insane. What's the lowest rate you can get?
@Mateng@kbin.social avatar

Germany. We got our loan in 2018 for 1.78%. A friend of mine even negotiated 1.4%. However, we have a loan term length (is that the word?) of 10 years, so let's hope rates will be low again in 2028.

Edit: It's a fixed interest rate over 10 years. Zinsbindung in German.

ferallettuce,

@Mateng

@briefingWizard936

Loan term refers to the total life of the loan. A 10 year term would mean you could pay off the loan in 10 years through making minimum payments.

Are you referring to an adjustable rate mortgage (ARM)? That’s what’s they’re called in the USA. ARMs haven’t made a lot of sense in most cases as of late.

What does lending look like there? Do you all do 30 year mortgages too? Do you have an option for a fixed rate mortgage?

Mateng,
@Mateng@kbin.social avatar

No, what I meant was a fixed interest rate over 10 years (German: Zinsbindung). The loan is over ~30 years.

After 10 years, we can decide if we change the lender or stay with them. The lender can decide on a new interest rate.

Ya know, I have been asking myself that for two weeks now I have learned that over time I have completely lost sight of having passions, deep interests and stuff. I guess it's time to try to rediscover those things because it's hard to get out of bed in the morning.

supermurs, in What drives you as a person?
@supermurs@kbin.social avatar

Thanks for asking! Lately I've been trying to cut down time spent in social media and other apps to be more present at home and giving more attention to people around me.

I've also tried to take more active role in meal preparation, my wife has appreciated that. :)

PupBiru, in How do I remove sticker residue from glass containers?
@PupBiru@kbin.social avatar

orange oil is one i haven’t seen mentioned yet!

i haven’t tried olive oil and other similar oils like others have suggested, but there’s a product in my country that’s specifically sticky stuff remover (like label residue) and it’s made of orange oil

ConfusedLlama,
@ConfusedLlama@kbin.social avatar

Wait... oranges have oil?! O.o

DasRubberDuck,

It's in the peels and has lots of the fruits flavour. All citrus have it, that's why you grind a bit of lemon peel into your food: It tastes way more lemony than the juice.

Dantastic, in Is Grammarly premium worth it?

If you have Microsoft Word, just use the built in spell and grammer check. It's far more capable these days and is very feature rich.
Another user pointed out how much worse you can make your writing using it. I had a peer in a group project put our work through Grammerly and mindlessly accept what it said to do and it ruined the writing.

Mind you, I've never been a fan of Grammerly and certainly don't understand how people could pay for it. And certainly would never be comfortable using it for free, because then they're data mining me.

@MeowdyPardner@kbin.social avatar

I like to use WD-40, I just lube it up and massage the adhesive until it dissolves into a goo that can be removed with dish soap. I find the goo-gone that I tried evaporates too quickly to soak into stiffer jar label adhesives.

Can_you_change_your_username, in How do I remove sticker residue from glass containers?

An Oxyclean soak is the most common way I see homebrewers recommend for removing labels from bottles. Definitely a good choice if being food safe matters.

Ladiira, in Is Grammarly premium worth it?

I used it throughout undergrad and grad school. I found it helpful. Not sure what you need Grammarly for but if you need MLA or APA help, I would recommend checking out Perra - www.perrla.com. Made formatting and references so much easier.

TwistedFox, in How do I remove sticker residue from glass containers?

Goo-B-Gone or Goo-Gone, plus steel wool like SOS pads or Scotch-Guard. Razors would work if it was a flat surface, but on a curved one like a bottle or glass, you want the flexibility of the steel wool.

SolacefromSilence,

+1 for steel wool
