ScienceBear, in How do I remove sticker residue from glass containers?
@ScienceBear@kbin.social avatar

+1 for goo gone/mineral oil, but you can also try a plastic scraper for the majority, then wipe away with either: acetone (nail polish remover), rubbing alcohol/vodka, or even tape itself (masking/packing/duct tape). Good luck 👍🏼

loki2236, (edited )

This. I usually do Alcohol let it soak for a while and then wash it with dish soap and a good scrub.

razor blade or other sharp scraping tool works great. Alternatively, you can try something like GooGone, but I have had mixed results there.

Years ago at one job we used to use a combination of a razor scraper and Goof Off and it worked well. It was on pricing stickers on metal painted with enamel, and as long as you didn't dig into it and just worked it loose it would come clean. Goof Off is a harsher chemical than Goo Gone (I think toluene or some mixture) so not the best for long term exposure, but that was then and we had some ventilation. I also think the product sold now like so many might be more diluted and not the original.

Olive oil on the other hand works surprisingly well if it can get to the adhesive.

Still figuring this out a bit, but this seems like a fun place.

@MiddleWeigh@lemmy.world avatar

I didn't know anything. I clicked a random link on reddit tbh. I just been picking away and enjoying it.

I guess the one thing would be what the actual difference between kbin and lemmy is. Other than that, it's pretty straightforward imo.

aeternum,

Two different softwares for accessing the fediverse. Say like, windows and Mac OS are different OS's for doing similar things.

Same, I came here from a link on r/cyberpunkred.

I agree the terminology, etc, is confusing. I do hope it gets revamped a bit.

FlowVoid, in What is Kbin’s identity?

If set up properly, Mastodon can pull in Lemmy and Kbin posts and comments. What is Mastodon trying to be?

The answer in both cases: it depends on how you set them up.

livus, in So why do you perfer Kbin over Lemmy?

I answered this the other day over at asklemmy so I'm going to cut n paste:

Why I joined

  • had a more intuitive interface
  • had a better aesthetic
  • had a much cooler name
  • the dev seemed like a cool guy
  • before federation it felt exciting like being on the ground floor of something

Why I stayed

  • has heaps of cool features and functions that are easy to use, like seeing upvotes, better blocking
  • I like the Mastodon interface too
  • turns out the dev definitely is awesome and everything is very open
  • it has a really chill community
  • I still just like it more than the various Lemmys

@SamXavia

Simple answer,

The ability to instantly hide viewed posts: https://greasyfork.org:4001/en/scripts/469175-kbin-hide-posts-after-voting/code

the better UI is just a plus ... I'm mostly browsing local instances and lemmy.world anyways

I have kbin and beehaw(lemmy) and honestly every time I go to Beehaw, it errors out, serverside 50x errors. Sometimes I get a few link clicks, it's just so erratic. I know I need to try joining another instance, but I liked that one when it was accessible lol. kbin has been solid for me, so usually I lurk here. I know other lemmy instances must be stable, I just haven't tried them because kbin works for me.

freeman,

That’s more beehaw than general lemmy. They are struggling with scaling.

Brkdncr, in So why do you perfer Kbin over Lemmy?

Federated authentication. UI on mobile was good enough.

@SamXavia I have accounts on lemmy, kbin and Mastodon.social, and I've pretty much settled on the masto. Maybe because I never was a twitter user, it is a slightly novel format for me. Anyway, there are plenty of humans there, so lots to share and engage with...

I suspect I will eventually go to just one account. If this "Memmy" app essentially connects the two, that could be a good solution. Do you use your same account for both? I created separate. Here I am on Lemmy

@Dreamer_joy I asked a similar question, today. Got a few pretty good answers. See https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/t/216273/A-crash-course-for-kbin-s-Microblog

RheingoldRiver, in did anyone else from the USA grow up being forced to say the pledge to the flag in school?

Good for you OP! I stopped standing to pledge around when I was maybe 10 or 11, when I learned it was illegal to make standing for it mandatory & about how the words 'under God' were added later and the pledge violated separation of church and state. I come from a very liberal area and all my teachers were quite proud of me I think, especially my 6th-grade teacher. But a lot of my classmates didn't understand and I got bullied a lot for it. But I refused to do it. My mom was teaching public policy so....that probably influenced it a lot haha

HRDS_654, in did anyone else from the USA grow up being forced to say the pledge to the flag in school?

To make it worse, I found out not too long ago that the version they made me say wasn’t even the original. “Under God” did not exist in the original version of the pledge.

EDIT: For those that were curious, apparently it was added in 1954 under Dwight Eisenhower.
